Begin with pickup at your Auckland hotel or cruise ship terminal, then travel to a series of popular city sights with a local driver/guide. Learn about the history of Auckland along the way to the Auckland Harbour Bridge, then explore Devonport, a scenic suburb with views across the water to downtown Auckland.
Stop by North Head, a headland formed by the volcano Maungauika, and visit One Tree Hill, a second volcanic peak that looks out at both of Auckland’s harbors. Māori people call this hill Maungakiekie, or "mountain of the kiekie vine," and it was home to an important fortification before the arrival of Europeans.
Soak up the hip, bustling atmosphere on Ponsonby Road, home to some of the city’s best bars, restaurants, and shops, then continue on a route through central Auckland. This tour concludes with drop-off at your hotel or cruise ship.

This was not your typical ½ day tour of a major city. We were expecting to be in a bus to see the basic sights in Auckland. But no this tour! Mike was so delightful and knowledgeable. He took us all around Auckland. We saw 2 volcanoes and hiked up them. We went to beautiful greenhouses, neighborhoods, over bridges, the harbor. It was wonderful!

In talking to our tour guide he said he had it set at 18C which is normally where we set it for comfort for everyone as often some find it too cold at 13C. Thank you! Yes, the attractions are a couple of hours south of Auckland. Hobbiton is literally in the middle of nowhere: Middle Earth. So, you can't avoid the travel, but we mitigate this by the special and exclusive route that we travel. So many guests say it is like a 3rd attraction where for 80% of the day we get right off the motorways and on to the quaint country roads so our guests see the real New Zealand with its stunning and every changing scenery. Michael was an excellent guide and driver. He had a wealth of knowledge about NZ that he happily shared with us and provided a well paced and enjoyable tour of the areas of Auckland that we could not reach by foot. While we explored the Central Business District on our own, this tour took us to the other points of interest that we otherwise would have missed. It really rounded out our visit and made the most of our limited time in the city. Highly recommended.

We might have preferred to skip the expensive houses part, but others may enjoy it. The Fernery and Winter Gardens were great, and so were the lookout points to view different areas of the city.
