Itinerary
Your full-day tour of Auckland begins with pick-up from your central hotel and a scenic drive through the city to the North Shore. Admire views across Waitemata Harbour as you cross the famous Auckland Harbour Bridge and arrive in the lively seafront village of Devonport. Hop out to stretch your legs and take photos as your guide points out the Auckland skyline to the south, then drives you to North Head to enjoy views of the volcanic Rangitoto Island.
Cross back into central Auckland and follow the Tamaki Drive, a dramatic coastal road that winds its way along Waitematā Harbour to Misson Bay. Along the way, pass the glitzy waterfront of Viaduct harbor; spot the iconic Sky Tower looming above the buildings; and stop at lookout points like Achilles Point and Bastion Point.
Next, pay a visit to Cornwall Park to see the legendary One Tree Hill, where your guide will tell you all about the crater hill and its significance to the Maori people. Another beautiful park is the Auckland Domain in the Parnell neighborhood, where you’ll have chance to admire the Wintergarden. Then, get a glimpse of local life as you drive through Ponsonby, one of Auckland’s hippest neighborhoods, and perhaps peek into the shops along Ponsonby road.
After lunch (own expense), it’s time to head out of the city towards the wild west coast and Muriwai Beach. Breathe in the sea air as you stroll the black sand beach, then head to the southern end of the beach to visit one of New Zealand’s most important Gannet breeding colonies. There’s just time to make a stop at one of the wineries along the Kumeu Wine Trail for a wine tasting (included) before heading back to the city. Finally, your tour ends with drop off at your hotel.

- Guests arriving on a cruise ship-we pick up right beside the cruise ship-30 metres from where you exit the Customs Hall dockside. If you are leaving the cruise ship, we can store your luggage in our Mercedes luggage hold throughout the tour. Then at the end of the tour drop you off at your Auckland Hotel or at a taxi stand to enable you to get a taxi to the airport is you are flying out later in the day (we do not offer an airport drop-off service).

This is a very extensive tour of Auckland. Went to many elevated areas to get panoramic views of the city. Mt Eden was a challenging hike and offered some amazing views of the city from every direction. The winery was nice.

Danny drove around Auckland bay, stopping along the way for over views of the city, a visit to the glass arboretum, a walk around the War museum, a moderately easy short walk up Mt Eden crater, a lovely wine tasting at Soljan’s vineyard and lunch at River Head restaurant. All and more, as described in his Viator description. Wonderful day!

This was an excellent tour of Auckland. We were very comfortable in a Mercedes Van and our guide, Danny, was very knowledgeable about the area. We really enjoyed his commentary. We had taken a previous half-day tour that went to a few of the same spots, but Danny showed us more at those sights that we had missed on our previous tour. We stopped at a lovely restaurant where we purchased wonderful, tasty dishes and enjoyed a beautiful view. It was truly an enjoyable day.

We had a good guide in Mike who shared many interesting anecdotes about his time as a guide in Auckland. Good itinerary, although the lunch at Riverside Tavern was an overhype for us.

Danny our guide was very friendly and informative. Made a large loop around the city. Especially liked the Gardens and the view from the crater. Nice stops for lunch and ice cream. Picked up and dropped off at hotel. No cheap knickknack stops. Day just flew by. Only issue was to see everything involved a lot of driving.

As this is our focus, it is not a shopping or cheap knickknack shopping tour though there are 2 opportunities to buy excellent souvenirs and memento items at both the Vineyard (where we stop with prices about 1/3rd less than the Auckland CBD) and also our lunch destination. Danny was a fantastic guide and made our experience a lot of fun in spite of unusually cold, windy and rainy conditions. He was extremely knowledgeable, attentive and engaging. We got drenched hiking up one volcano and nearly blown off another in 60 mile an hour wind gusts. These conditions are very unlikely to happen on any given tour and I have not reduced our rating for the weather. The bus was comfortable and the sites we visited were awesome. The lunch spot we went to was a pub more than 100 years old and the food and service were great. The information and insights Danny shared were very interesting, so we learned a lot about the key sites and the history, culture, economy, geology and fauna and flora of Auckland. I would highly recommend this tour for your first day in town, and I would very enthusiastically recommend Danny as a guide.

The tour was a great way to see the highlights of Auckland - different neighborhoods, the countryside, a winery, and more. Brenda our guide was excellent. We learned so much, she answered all of our questions, and she’s a great driver.

This Auckland City Tour is a comprehensive tour of all parts of Auckland! A good way to learn more about the city and see famous spots in every corner of this large, spreadout city! Our guide, Brenda, was very knowledgeable about the history and all the sights we saw along the tour, was very considerate to pull-over for quick photo ops, and very capable at moving the 15passenger through the busy city, while giving us a running commentary of everything we were seeing!! We especially enjoyed the Winter Gardens, the wine tasting at Soljans Winery, lunch at Riverhead Tavern (circa 1857, NZ's oldest riverside tavern!), the disappearing gun at the South Battery, and the fantastic views from Mt.Eden!! An all-around excellent tour!

Danny was a fantastic guide and really made this excursion enjoyable. His knowledge was excellent and he provided good natured commentary throughout the excursion. We learnt lots. We had Danny all to ourselves today as the only ones booked on the trip. Having only one day in Auckland before a cruise this was the perfect day sightseeing for us. We saw so many beautiful places around the city. Danny was fun to be with and very informative about every Auckland. Stopped at a lovely location for lunch by the river. Thank you! Yes, in essence a private tour as a group cancelled the day before due to flight delays. But we never cancel tours. Our tour is the absolute perfect tour if you only have 1 day in Auckland, as you did, and want to see and learn as much about Auckland as is possible in 8 hours as you experienced. In the hands of one of our highly knowledgeable guides, you cannot but fall in love with Auckland as we unfold its stunning scenic views and beauty, rich history and culture, fauna and flora. Mike was our guide for the day and he was really fun and interesting. I liked seeing sights around various vantage points around the big city. Lovely neighborhoods and fun stops

We had 1 day in a big city. How to see it all? Well, Mike found a way. It was a perfect itinerary. Educational, scenic, full of great experiences. We had a fabulous time!
