We arrived on a cruise so with just one day to see some of Auckland. Talia met us at the terminal and her tour was a great way of seeing Auckland. We knew it was a small group tour, and it was awesome to find this meant it was just the 2 of us! It was a very wet day, but Talia managed to drive us to some places we would have had to walk which certainly helped. We visited all the places described with a helpful narrative plus Talia's local knowledge. Overall we had a great introduction to Auckland and highly recommend it if you don't have much time. This was an amazing half day tour which covered all the main tourist attractions in Auckland. Sam was a fantastic guide whose zest and knowledge made the day truly memorable. There was ample time to pause and behold the breath-taking beauty of Auckland namely the Harbour Bridge, Westhaven Marina, North Head volcanic mountain, Mount Eden and the War memorial. We strongly recommend this tour. The route covered the best sights of Auckland in just one morning. And we have plenty of time to make stops, take pictures and enjoy the places visited. Our tour guide/ driver, Sam was very courteous, friendly, knowledgeable and gave us recommendations for the rest of the day. The minibus was very clean and comfortable (we were only 4 passengers).

This tour was extremely disappointing for many reasons. The driver was not knowledgeable and was unable to answer even basic questions about the area. More concerning, we missed 3 out of the 6 scheduled stops on the itinerary, which is completely unacceptable.
For example, the Holy Trinity Cathedral was closed—something the guide should have known in advance. Instead, we were dropped off at a random art gallery that was not even part of the itinerary. During stops, the driver would not stay with the group and instead told us to text him when we were ready to be picked up. At one point, he even left to get lunch while we were at the gallery.
We also missed key locations entirely, including Westhaven Marina and North Head Reserve, which were highlights we were looking forward to.
We travel frequently around the world and typically rely on Viator for well-organized, high-quality tours, so this experience was incredibly disappointing. The tour felt misrepresented and poorly executed.
I would not recommend this tour to anyone and would actively suggest others avoid it. This experience did not reflect the tour description or the standard we have come to expect. Based on the missed itinerary items and overall service issues, I believe a refund is warranted.

We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy the tour, and we sincerely apologize that the guide was unable to answer some of your questions. However, we understand from the guide that it was not that they failed to answer all questions, but rather that there were some questions unrelated to the tour that they could not address. It can be difficult for a guide to respond to every individual question, especially those not connected to the tour itself.
Regarding the itinerary, the weather on the day was not favorable, and visibility at North Head was poor due to fog. The guide discussed this with you in advance and suggested visiting an alternative location instead. We were informed that you were satisfied with this change, as it still allowed you to experience New Zealand’s natural scenery. Therefore, we find it difficult to understand the negative review submitted after the tour, particularly if it was intended to request a refund.
You also mentioned that the guide left to have lunch while you were visiting the art gallery. The guide has clarified that this is not accurate—they only ate a banana outside, not inside the vehicle, and did not leave the group for a meal. We believe it is not appropriate to include assumptions or unverified claims in a review.
We consider reviews to be valuable feedback that should reflect both the positive and negative aspects of the experience. Additionally, it is clearly stated that Holy Trinity Cathedral may be closed at times, and if so, it cannot be visited.
It seems that the efforts made by the guide have not been fully taken into account. Based on the overall situation, we have concluded that the negative review appears to have been written solely to request a refund. Therefore, we regret to inform you that we will not be issuing a refund.

Not a fan of the AI generated commentary, which didn't allow for any questions. Kamal was a good driver but definitely not a tour guide. We did see most of the stops listed on the itinerary.

I liked the places the driver took us but most were outside the city. The driver did very little speaking. . He had an AI vioice do it and the voice was very bland.

I was on a Carnival cruise ship headed to Auckland, New Zealand. I had a 9:00am city tour booked through Viator for my husband & I and three of our friends. Fog delayed the ship landing until 10:30 or so. The captain had announced this at about 8am. (It was really foggy!) I texted the tour operator and he said that he would have to cancel..Viator said the same. i understand cancelling, but why no refund? I will never book with Viator again for a cruise. It is unacceptable not to refund your money when it was not our fault.

Therefore, to help avoid situations like this, we allow cancellations to be made up to 24 hours in advance. This situation is not due to any fault on our part.
I found the excursion to be well organized and the tour guide was really nice. She is a very good driver and we felt safe at all times. Good value for the money spent!

What a DELIGHT to visit some special locations in Auckland upon our first visit ever while on our 54 day cruise out of LA, California. The tour has great views of the bay, volcanoes and city. It’s a great overview of Auckland and its history. Our guide Kamal was prompt, friendly and very knowledgeable. He used AI in the van for the overview, but he shared more details as we walked around the various stops. For those of us who wanted, he dropped us off on Queen street and told us about the restaurants, bars and stores. The rest were delivered back to the ship. I recommend the tour for someone who wants some great highlights and scenery.

The tour guide was very kind and courteous, but he did not speak good English. I only understood about 20% of what he said. He would play a recorded message when we got to. Site. VERY disappointing. I have used via tour and every one of my trips. I don’t understand why you don’t vet your tour guide guides.

This is a terrific tour to see parts of Aukland, NZ. We went to a dormant volcano Mt Eden, winter garden with the most beautiful plants and flowers. We learned about the early architecture. The tour was fascinating and Tony was a terrific guide. I recommend this tour for all ages!!

It was not as advertised we thought it was truly going to be a city tour of Auckland with a lot of narration on history current events and economics, security etc. we were the only two our driver was very nice, but he spoke very limited English. He couldn’t answer a lot of of our questions and understand a lot that we. said
there should be some kind of warning on there about how much walking and climbing there is going up to the top of the volcano. Harbor head also had a lot of walking and step climbing. I don’t think we were prepared for that. . I just thought we were going to hear more history about New Zealand. We’ve taken a lot of via Tour tours. This was definitely the least favorite.

If you have little time, this was a very pleasant 3 hour tour. I liked the locations Sam showed us. I enjoyed the mild physical exertion of climbing hills for fantastic views, fresh air. Comfortable car with 4 other people I didn't know. It was perfectly paced, though I would have spent more time in the Winter Garden. The weather was nice, quite windy, but sunny and clear.

Sam our tour guide was wonderful! He shared so many interesting facts about Auckland and made the excursion so enjoyable! Unfortunately we were unable to go to the Cathedral at the end of the tour as we were told it was closed, but we sure enjoyed the other sites.
