The pickups, depending on location in the CBD of where you are staying, occur in the preceding 20-25minutes. On a guided tour of the Hobbiton™ Movie Set, see recognizable scenes created for "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" films and learn the secrets and stories behind the creation of Middle-earth. Take in stellar views of the Kaimai Ranges as you visit meticulously crafted sets including Hobbit Holes, the Mill, and the Green Dragon Inn, where you can even enjoy a specially brewed drink fit for a Baggins.
After the tour, trade Hobbit trivia with your fellow travelers over a Kiwi-style lunch at a café.
Next, embark on an underground adventure at the Waitomo Glowworm Caves, where thousands of tiny worms illuminate the caverns. Watch the mesmerizing natural light show while gliding through the cave on a boat, and learn about the area’s natural and cultural history from a guide—likely a descendant of the Māori chief who originally discovered the caves. This was a great day. Our guide was great and knowledgeable. Loved Hobbiton. Stories were so entertaining. Glowworm experience was very good. The whole experience including lunch was perfect. Highly recommend.
I got picked up from my hotel. We then stopped for coffee, followed by 2.5 hours at Hobbiton which included a free beer, then lunch(which was included), then a tour of the worm cave.
While all of this was going on, Liam, our bus driver, was absolutely the best person ever. He is so nice, personable, knowledgeable, and was always making sure everyone was having a good time. I would I could have Liam as my tour operator EVERYWHERE I go.
Thank you for making this tour what it was. This was the best tour from Viator I have ever done.
If you are a Lord of The Rings fan you have to take this tour. It’s a great long day. They pick you up and drop you off at your hotel. Your tour guide tells you a lot about New Zealand and the cities and towns you go through. Hobbiton is awesome. The glow worm cave was an amazing site to see. Our tour guide was wonderful. So dress in layers, wear comfortable walking shoes and you will be set of a great time.
10/10! This was a fabulous experience! The drive is a little long but they do break it up with rest stops. Our driver Nelson was also very entertaining and knowledgeable. I would absolutely recommend this to others!
It was a well balanced and timed with good variety of activities! While pickup is a bit early, it allows for bypassing longer lines and traffic and you’re easily able to sleep on the way to the first destination. We loved our guide who took the time to make sure everyone was always accounted for and supported as needed.
Worth seeing, even if you're not a Lord of the Rings fan. You get to see a lot of beautiful rolling hills of green scenery. The caves are also very cool. Just note the tour is mostly a lot of driving.

You are so right that you do not have to be a LOTR fan to enjoy our magical and enchanting tour as we journey 2 hours south to Middle Earth and beyond. It is a stand-alone tour with over half the 1 Million guest that visit the Movie Seat annually never having watched any of the movies or read any of the Tolkein books. I sense from you comments that you fell in love with the rolling hills of the Movie Seat and loved your 3 hours on the Set and the Shire. Prepare to spend a lot of time on the road. Lunch was not good, both on quality and choices. Most positive thing is that all the tour guides are very nice and very good . Cost for the experience is pretty expensive.

Thank you for sharing your comments about our tour. Unfortunately you can't avoid the travel as the attractions are 2 hours south of Auckland in the middle of no where, literally in Middle Earth. But we mitigate that by the specially designed and exclusive route that we travel that additionally gives us the opportunity to showcase the stunning and ever changing scenery and landscapes of this region of New Zealand. We see this as a 3rd attraction. Our tour at approx US$200 is the most competitive available and includes all the entrance fees, complimentary drink at the Green Dragon, a yummy cafe style lunch, pickup/drop off, late model Mercedes transportation with fuel at UDS8.00/gallon and one of our tour guides who are amongst the most knowledgeable in New Zealand. Our tour is a full 11 hour day so is an experience and adventure. We are the only operator to include a yummy cafe style lunch in the price of our tour. It is what most New Zealanders would have for lunch. It is not a la cate or buffet style due to the time available but also than would add an unnecessary $30 to the tour price. Great tour of Hobbiton and the Caves. Coffee stop in the morning was nice and the kiwi lunch was good. Definitely recommend this tour and Liam was a great guide!

Let me get this straight. The tour was fantastic. We had a great time so what is the problem it is with. Viator, they tell us 6:30 am pick up and they come at 6:10 in the morning and this is not the first time that this timing has gone horribly wrong and the conversation is very bad. I would suggest going to this tour for sure, but with somebody else.

In our product information it says at the very beginning and repeated later "
Our Tour starts at 6:30am heading south with everyone already picked up across the Auckland CBD and on board. We pick up at every guest's accommodation across the CBD, so clearly cannot make 8 stops as was the case yesterday at the same time of 6:30am as you are suggesting unless you and everyone else is going from your hotel to a central location. So everyone it is already picked up by 6:30am when our Mercedes is on the motorway heading south.
In your case yesterday, you had received 2 communications from our office with a reminder the day before of your pick up time. You were not ready and waiting and we called and called you; messaged you with no reply. Initially we thought you were a no show. We then went and picked up all our other guests and then in the interim finally our office made contact with you and we returned at 6:25am to pick you up. I find it extremely disappointing that you would choose to write these comments and headline though an oversight on your part about the tour arrangements and would now ask you to reflect on these and ask yourself are they fair, when our product information, which you missed in your reading, plus our communications and reminder said otherwise. Thank you.

You are so right that you do not need to be a LOTR fan to love the Hobbiton Movie Set. It is a stand-alone tour. Half the 1 Million visitors annually have never watched any of the movies or read any of the Tolkein books. You do not have to have done either as you experienced. The Hobbiton/Glow worm cave trip was incredible. Very enjoyable van ride through the countryside, super easy and smooth entry into both attractions, excellent lunch at the Homestead near the Glow Worm caves, and a good cab ride back to the hotel. Danny was super knowledgeable about New Sealand history and the areas we drove through. Highly recommend this trip for anyone.

This was an amazing experience all around! Danny was a wonderful guide and shared lots of cool facts and stories throughout the day. Hobbiton is so much fun even if you aren’t a huge LOTR fan! Honestly the best part is the cave and glow worms. So beautiful and unique and really highlights the wonder of nature. The pacing of the day was perfect! While we were gone for 11.5 hours there were nice breaks and treats in between. Danny did a great job taking care of us all! You do not want to miss this one!!

We loved that the entire schedule was on time. Rachel, our tour guide, was fantastic! She was very helpful, informative with the area's history, people and places Rachel is so friendly and kind that she really took time to get to know each one of us and also made us all in the bus feel very comfortable and welcome! We loved how coordinated the tours were, especially at Hobbiton. Rachel's instructions were very clear and precise. We loved that there were stops for coffee and toilet breaks during the trip. Rachel made good recommendations on Auckland restaurants and gifts for loved ones at home, which were all excellent! She also took time to make sure we had family photos at places to make everything so memorable! And best of all, we loved the lunch and the ice cream stop, which was delicious, before we headed back to Auckland!

The trip was more than expected. Going in I thought it would be more of a gimmick but the detail and effort extended to the movie set is fantastic. The glow worm caves were also much better than expected. Our guide Stephen was fantastic keeping us both informed and on schedule.

Absolutely fantastic day trip! The Hobbiton and Waitomo Caves were both incredible, and the whole experience was very well organised. Our guide, Tracey, was amazing — extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and constantly providing interesting information throughout the entire day. We really enjoyed having her as our guide and appreciated how much she added to the experience.
It’s a long day, but honestly, every hour is worth it — even the time spent on the bus! Tracey kept us entertained and informed along the way, making the journey itself part of the experience.

Hobbiton is a must for all Lord of the Rings fans, it was amazing being in the location where the movie was made! Visiting Waitomo Cave and seeing the glowworms was a peaceful and surreal experience. Our guide Danny was knowledgable and amazing, he pointed out many interesting facts during the bus ride.

Love your headline "Great Tour." I sense from your comments that your are an LOTR fan and you would have marvelled feeling the Hobbiton Movie Set open up in front of your eyes. Interestingly almost half the visitors to Hobbiton have never watched any of the movies or read and of the Tolkein books. You don't have to have done either as it is a stand-alone tour. Like you I marvel at nature every time I visit the Waitomo Glowworm Caves. Don't you just want time to stop as you soak up the peace and tranquility. We had a great time with Nelson! He was so knowledgable about everything from the Hobbiton and Waitomo backstory to random forests, stands, and attractions on the side of the road while driving. Our tour guides in Hobbiton and Waitomo were also fantastic and hilarious. Plus, the lunch was actually delicious! Could not recommend this tour enough!
