Your walking tour begins at Syntagma Square, where you’ll greet your guide and begin your alternative sightseeing experience of Athens. As you follow in the footsteps of ancient philosophers and conquerors, you’ll gain local insight into the culture and history of the ancient Greek capital.

Visit iconic attractions including the Acropolis, one of the world’s most instantly recognizable landmarks, and gaze upon the Temple of Olympian Zeus. Be prepared for a lot of uphill walking. Wear comfortable shoes. Great tour - walked through many interesting areas that probably get overlooked with large groups. Host was very knowledgeable about history and the area. Opportunity for shopping, too.

There so many side areas in Athens you would never see or hear their without the tour guide. Alice was very knowledgeable and patient on our long walk through the city.

We enjoyed seeing the Plaka area and visiting the cute little red-roofed houses. It was a very detailed trip which we had to cut short as we needed to meet our transfer deadline.

Walking Tour of Athens

Though we were unable to take the six hour walking tour because of our cruise time restraints, Viator took the time to put a three hour tour together, and it was FABULOUS! Our tour guide Elena was very knowledgeable and patient, taking the time to answer our questions with respect to each of our stops (changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Queen's Garden, Olympic Stadium, Zeus Temple, Acropolis) and life in Athens. She knew so much about it's history!! She was conscientious of our five year old granddaughter and made it fun for her as well. We were able to stop at a lovely cafe/restaurant along the way in the most beautiful and quaint setting, the food was phenomenal!! I apologize but I forgot to ask Elena for the translation of the name. Elena (a beautiful person with a beautiful soul) inspired us to return to Athens and we will on our 40th anniversary, just three years away! Thank you again Elena and Viator!!

Her name has two meanings according Greek Mythology, one is Selene that means moon and the other is the woman who burns the ships from Helen of Troy. We hope that you had a grear time in Greece.
