Long day but worth it

Such a great day trip. It is a long day from Athens but worth the drive if interested in the history of the battle and Delphi. Temple of Apollo was the draw. The museum was basically empty and the 3D show was neat. Our driver was amazing and got us there fast and made the trip better. It was hot so be prepared with plenty of water and wear decent shoes up the trek to see the temple, theater and stadium. The Delphi Museum was wonderful and packed with such interesting points but as we were so overheated and tired from the archeological site, we did not take the time the museum deserved. It would have been helpful and more interesting to have a guide inside the archeological site as we did not so just read the various signs.

Great Tour - Mike was the BEST!

We had an amazing time on this tour. Mike (Menelaus) was the best driver/guide. Mike reached out the night before to introduce himself and confirm pick-up time. The day of the tour, we wanted to skip one stop on the itinerary and instead stop at a shop on the way to purchase honey - Mike was very accommodating. He was a wealth of information, easy to chat with, and provided us with many recommendations for restaurants in Athens. He even thought our daughter might like to attend an outdoor movie near where we were staying, and looking up the information for us. If you are lucky enough to have Mike as your driver/guide, you will not be disappointed.

If you've ever been to Athens, you know driving can be wild. This tour gave us the opportunity to see sites away from the city, without the stress of trying to get there on our own. Panos our driver was was engaging and informative. He told us so much history, and pointed out notable sites along the way. We left early in the morning and arrived at Thermopylae before any other tourists, which was a pleasant surprise. Delphi is a must see. It could be challenging for some, but having the flexibility with the schedule kept the worry of "missing a bus" or not going fast enough, at bay. Our driver recommended an outstanding local taverna for lunch. Arachova was a delightful surprise. The vibe of the town is very unique, and it is incredibly picturesque. We recommend this tour 100%.

Delphi/Pythos was fantastic, and (at least for me) very worth the long round trip ride. The archaeological site and the museum are one ticket, so you can pick how you want to split your time. Note: you can see *almost* everything fairly easy, but if you want to go all the way to the top to see the Pythian Games stadium, be prepared for a lot of steps, irregular steps, sloped steps, dirt ramps instead of steps, and a descent that is just as difficult. By the time you get above the theater and see the temple from a high vantage, be honest with yourself about how you feel - all that's past there is the stadium and it's about another 15-20 minutes up. Thermopylae is pretty bare; go if you are a big fan of history or military battles, there's mostly just a plaque and a statue - the pass itself has eroded away flat and the sea has receded, so it can be tricky to see the strategic importance of the site. Lunch and a walk in the villages was great. The driver made arrangements at a great local taverna that used very local ingredients to make a lot of great traditional Greek dishes. There were a lot of great scenic views along the way too. Hills, valleys, mountains in the distance, the gulf, and just a lot of natural landscapes you won't see in Athens. The driver was very friendly, knowledgeable, and responded well to unexpected external challenges. He knew a lot about the sites, but also just the area in general, and other sites and attractions that weren't on this tour that I still might like to see.

Costa was a wonderful driver full of great information about everywhere we went. Delphi is absolutely amazing….and big! Be ready for a lot of steps and ramps. It is worth it to go all the way to the top. Thermopylae was underwhelming. If you are tight on time skip it. But was nice to say we were there and the movie at the visitor’s Center was educational. Overall an amazing experience.

Good, but must-read notes…

Great driver. Knowledgeable, enthusiastic. Check the drive times! It’s 2.5 hours each way in a tight European car. Be careful if elderly. Oracle of Delphi / Temple of Apollo is up the face of a mountain and built into the slope. Everything requires walking in the sun. My 72yo mother really struggled to get up. Bring umbrellas to protect you from the sun, almost zero shade while exploring. Sunscreen a must. Didn’t book lunch thru Viator but driver gave us a great recommendation that ended up being one of the better meals we had in Athens vicinity. We were a party of three - elderly mom stayed in front seat, two young guys in back seat behind her with middle seat free. Wouldn’t have been comfortable at all with four people.

Perfect private day tour from Athens

We went for the Thermopylae and Delphi tour with Fotis. He was very friendly and also knowledgeable. Throughout the journey he kept us informing fun facts about not only the main attractions e.g Delphi and Thermopylae but also other surrounding cities and monuments. The communication related to pick up was perfect, and during the journey he made us feel home by looking after all small details such as drink water and routine breaks. Overall, I would strongly recommend this trip and Fotis as a great person.

So nice! Delphi is incredibly interesting and great exercise. My wife loved it. I also enjoyed it, but the thrill for me was to go to Thermopylae. Hopefully everyone knows this, but it's a brief stop and the site of the battle doesn't really exist anymore. The sea has receded. But, if you read Gates of Fire (or for others, watched 300), it's a really exciting spot to quickly explore. After Delphi, we had lunch at a delicious spot recommended by our helpful and very nice driver Anthony. Try the Aubergine Imam It's delicious. Everything was good though. Very satisfied.

Perfect Day Trip

This was an awesome day tour to Delphi and Thermopylae and Delphi! Our driver Antonio picked us up from our hotel and was very courteous, knowledgeable and an excellent and safe driver. The drive from Athens was very scenic and beautiful and Antonio was a wealth of information on everything ranging from history to politics to culture and food Delphi is a must visit for history buffs and the museum is simply awesome. The food at the recommended restaurant was amazing with spectacular views . Antonio also managed to make sure that we reached Thermopylae before the museum closed and that was definitely worth a visit for fan of 300. The personal attention on this trip felt like it was catered just for us. Perfect trip with the perfect driver Antonio !

A trip to remember

Our driver (Takis) was amiable and informative. He picked us up from the hotel and drove directly to Thermopylae. I was with my nine years old son, and we both had a great time! No stress/rush. We had all the time we needed at every site. Before returning to Athens, we enjoyed a relaxed lunch at one of the many options at Arachova. The countryside is beautiful, and the sites are remarkable! If you love Greek history visiting Thermopylae and Delphi is something you should not skip.
