Florida family had a blast with Pablo exploring the ice caves!
We had a wonderful time exploring the glacier with Pablo. Our tour was quite the adventure, including a super jeep mechanical issue that had us hanging out on the drive during a white out while waiting for a mechanic! It was actually a blessing, as we learned all about Iceland from Pablo and a new vehicle picked us up in no time. Then we were on our way. The glacier is unbelievable. Lots of hard-working guides kept the path clear, and we scored fabulous pictures. I cannot recommend it enough!

Hella awesome!
If you’re visiting Iceland, I highly recommend doing the Katla Ice Cave tour. It’s a truly unique natural wonder and something you won’t forget. The super jeep ride across the rugged landscape to reach the cave was an adventure in itself and really added to the experience. It was beautiful with all the snow. Our guide was fantastic—knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about the glacier and the area. They explained how the cave forms under the glacier and made sure everyone felt safe and comfortable throughout the tour.

Elías was a wonderful...
Elías was a wonderful guide and a very good driver. He had lots to say about the area and was very open to questions. He explained how they form the caves and what the area is like. The drive out to the glacier was very bumpy because of melting snow but was a lot of fun.

Land of Fire and Ice
Lava show in Vik (guided by Luis) introduced us to volcano science and Katla geopark. It was a nice way to learn a little about the area and its relationship/history with the volcano. We were going to explore the Katla geopark/glacier the following day, so the show gave me more appreciation for the landscape, the history, and the residents. Plus it was nice to sit back, share a beer during the show and remove some layers due to the rising heat of the room. (And the soup next door is pretty tasty too).

Vik may not have an exciting name—it just translates to “bay” in Icelandic—but this town on the southern tip of Iceland is anything but boring. Sign a waiver, and within minutes, Vik tours will have you riding in a buggy along the black sand beach of Reynisfjara, exploring an ice cave under Katla Volcano, or snowmobiling above it on Mýrdalsjökull, the country’s fourth-largest glacier. Ziplining, paragliding, and kayaking (in a glacial lagoon) are all options if you go with a guide.
