We had an amazing time on the Katla Ice Cave tour and our guide, Boris, was a huge part of what made it so special. From the moment we got in the super jeep, he set the tone—fun, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about what he does. The drive out to the glacier was almost as impressive as the cave itself, with dramatic landscapes everywhere you looked. Once inside the ice cave, Boris guided us through the most stunning formations and made the whole experience feel adventurous but safe. Truly one of the highlights of our trip. Boris was great!

Amazing! Hawk was the best tour guide. Beautiful caves and scenery. Learned a lot about glaciers and volcanoes. Highly recommend!

I’ll start by saying that our two group guides were beyond amazing, warm, knowledgeable and professional. Tomas and Jacob were awesome.
Other travelers should know what is not in the trip description or videos. The drive to the katla caves was approx 45 min and 30 min was off road on exyremely bumpy terrain. A few of us had motion sickness and only felt better later that morning. We asked the guides to open windows, and that was slightly helpful. Nowhere in the trip description did it explain this part of the journey to the Katla caves.
It was an excellent excursion because of our two fantastic guides and beautiful connection with nature. Please add info about the off-road experience to the description.

It’s must do, amazing experience. Well organized, once in a lifetime trip. The whole family loved it.

Exploring the ice caves on the glacier on an active volcano was a once in a lifetime experience! Hawk, our tour guide, was great! He was very knowledgeable about volcanoes and ice caves and took the time to answer questions so everyone left with a better understanding of both. Fantastic tour!

Hawk was absolutely amazing as our guide through the caves. This was one of our top experiences. We learned so much from this excursion.

Never ever book with Viator. They charge exuberantly higher price than the actual price of the tour. Book directly with the operator as on their website it is priced at $151/person with a 20% discount if you book by June15th. I didn’t know about that Viator charged me for the same tour so high, $ 283/person, total of 566 for 2. Also, on the Viator the same tour is listed as with other operator as $197/person and my friends booked with that. However, all of us are travelled with the same company (trolls.is) , on the same jeep and guide. So, someone like me paying 566 for party of two, the others are paying 394 for 2, while directly from the company you’re paying 240 for 2’persons with discount. Even without discount would be 302 for two persons. And when you call Viator they’re not listening to price match even with their website price. Tour as such is a great experience and the company is extremely knowledgeable and helpful but you feel cheated booking through Viator. So booking experience is horrible.

Our guide Tama was very knowledgable and friendly. She was also really proactive in offering to take photos and so we got some really nice, cool ones of ourselves. The tour itself is more walking to the ice tunnel than being in it but it was really interesting to walk on a glacier that was black

The Viator team and Troll Expeditions customer service were absolutely outstanding in accommodating our last-minute tour date change after we got a flat tire on the way. They made a stressful situation so much easier and truly went above and beyond for us.
The cave tour was even better than we expected! The Super Jeep ride was incredibly fun, and the scenery along the way was absolutely breathtaking. The cave itself was much bigger than we imagined, and being able to climb the glacier/volcano was truly the highlight of our trip to Iceland.
Our tour guide, Net, was absolutely incredible — patient, knowledgeable, and so passionate about the experience. He gave us plenty of time to ask questions and took tons of amazing pictures for us throughout the tour.

Edward, was a great guide!! We had a great time and learned a lot. He is very knowledgeable and fun!!

Awesome experience!!! Our guide was incredibly knowledgable. The cave is amazing! What a surreal feeling to climb on a Glacier!

Absolutely wonderful. We went in the beginning of May and saw some gorgeous blue caves (this can vary by year blue vs black vs mix from the volcanic Ash). Our guide, Natti, was full of great information and took some amazing photos for us. It does require a little bit of hiking (they provide crampons). My 62 year old mom did it no problem, but she’s an avid hiker. Overall a great experience!

So cool (pun intended) to walk through the cave and learn about how it is formed - and that it doesn't last forever! Our guide Boris shared so much interesting information about volcanoes, glaciers and Iceland in general - highly recommend for the whole family!

Wonderful experience!!! Friendly staff and a once in a lifetime experience: I highly recommend doing this.

This experience was mind blowing, beautiful, majestic, and educational. Hawk was our guide, and he’s so knowledgeable about everything glacial and volcanic. He was funny and awesome in every way. Down to the tunes on the ride in and out of the glacier. I learned so much, and holy wow the ice cave. Speechless.

Loved the whole experience. Katla is probably the only natural ice cave with ice walls all around (floor and roof). The ice is not as blue as it appears i pictures, but a little editing with contrast and brightness will deliver that effect. Gabrielle was very passionate about ice caves and iceland and yook good care of the group

Let me begin by saying that if you aren't staying in Vík, the drive from Reykjavík is gorgeous, and the town is wonderful.
Our tour guide was Joao, and he was absolutely wonderful, an extremely personable guy, and very knowledgeable.
Our group boarded the Super Jeep, and we were driving a few moments later.
He took us off road to begin the path to the glacier. He explained the air compressor controls of the tires to make the ride possible, and overall much more comfortable. We were driven through beautiful fields and rocky paths that Joao navigated expertly, focused and planning his path ahead. Once we arrived we equipped our gear, and Joao instructed us very efficiently on how to get it all correct.
The hike up was very scenic and rather short, and we arrived at the entrance to our ice cave quite quickly! Joao explained the science behind the formation and texture of the caves, giving us an insight to the beautifully powerful forces of Katla Volcano, and the glacier as well.
Having someone who has deep care and profound knowledge on something like this just makes the experience all the more special.
After getting some wonderful views and pictures outside the other end of the tunnel, we began our trek back and hopped back into the jeep.
And on top of being knowledgeable and extremely personable, as well as a great conversationalist, Joao also had great taste in music! We had a great time just driving back because of his positive attitude and excitement with the trip.
We had a blast and would most certainly come back, and Troll.is most certainly has an efficient, and well staffed crew with them!

We took this tour with Gabriel, it was unbelievable. The glacier was incredible and Gabriel knew so much information about Ketla, the tunnels, the maintenance the team puts in, and the caves themselves were beautiful. The weather also behaved with sunshine so a waterproof jacket and hiking boots were all that was needed. Would absolutely recommend this experience with Gabriel to everyone.

This tour was fantastic! The meetup was easily coordinated, the guide was friendly and knowledgeable (and funny). And of course, the glacier and ice cave were spectacular!

Our guide was great and it was a experience like I've never had before!! Great time! Thank you for a great time!

Great adventure. Guides are very friendly and fun. The flexibility to join from Vik was a big plus so we could explore the other areas on our own schedule. Helkur is excellent
James_N, Mar 2026
Loved the tour into the ice caves and walk along the glacier - even the drive to the glacier in the snow was like an adventure! The tour guides were knowledgeable and super friendly - snowball fights!

We had a wonderful time exploring the glacier with Pablo. Our tour was quite the adventure, including a super jeep mechanical issue that had us hanging out on the drive during a white out while waiting for a mechanic! It was actually a blessing, as we learned all about Iceland from Pablo and a new vehicle picked us up in no time. Then we were on our way. The glacier is unbelievable. Lots of hard-working guides kept the path clear, and we scored fabulous pictures. I cannot recommend it enough!

The experience is ONCE IN A LIFETIME.
From the off road raised jeeps taking us up to the cave to the actual cave experience and the views… absolutely INCREDIBLE. Highly recommend. We got the best pictures and videos. Memories for a lifetime. Shout out to Beda our tour guide. He loves what he does and was fantastic at teaching us the history of the caves and glacier. Very professional and personable.
Dan_R, Mar 2026
Fun, scenic, great guides! The ride is as much apart of the adventure as exploring the glacier and the caves.
Maria_M, Mar 2026
Truly an amazing experience. Our guide, Edgar, was fantastic. He was knowledgeable, funny and had a great playlist. We were able to see the glacier and the cave, the sun was out. It truly was a memorable experience we will never forget. 10/10 recommend!

We were lucky to have a nice day on Katla. Gustavo drove us on the Icelandic road before taking us through the mud, across a river, through slushy puddles and not so slushy (frozen) areas before parking us on the glacier. We got on our crampons and began the trek up to a couple ice caves that we had all to ourselves (with a group of like 11 total). It was such a privilege to be able to experience these ephemeral natural caves and to recognize that there used to be a giant arch that has since receded/melted away.
Tim_W, Mar 2026
Great tour guide, very informative, fun and spectacular. Tomaso taught us about the caves, how they formed and how the change over time. I highly recommend this trip.

The ride was bumpy but the guide was so great about it. Boris gave great information and facts about the glacier and caves and was funny. We had plenty of time to tour the cave and it was beautiful.
