Please be at location 20 minutes before departure. Meet us at our base at Sólheimajökull Parking Lot. Driving time from Reykjavík is 2.5 hours. Drive along Road 1 on the South Coast, then take a left turn on Road 221. After ca. 5 minute drive, you will reach the starting point.

This activity ends back at the meeting point.What To Expect
Prior to the tour’s departure time, make your way to the meeting point at Sólheimajökull Base Camp to meet your glacier guide and small group of fellow hikers. Get fitted with your provided climbing harness, crampons, and ice axe and get ready to head up to the Sólheimajökull outlet glacier.
After an introductory explanation on how to use your equipment and walk safely on a glacier, make your way up the shimmering glacier, walking through a frozen wonderland of blue ice, glacial formations, and deep crevasses. Take advantage of plenty of breaks for photos, insights into glacial geology, and the opportunity to drink pure glacier water before heading back down.

The most amazing experience and views and a must-do activity in Iceland! Our guide Oskar was very knowledgable and brought us to do multiple activities throughout the glacier. We always felt safe and had a lot of fun. 11/10 would love to come back and try the ice climbing!

I went on an early 0900 hike. It was the only time slot open but honestly it worked out so well. The tour guide takes you in a beautiful hike to the glacier. The hike is beautiful where you get to experience valleys full of moss and berries, creeks and waterfalls. After we made it to the glacier and our tour guide named Ekla was such a great leader, adventurer, full of enthusiasm and just overall made the experience so amazing. From tips on how to walk with crampons, to taking us far into the glacier hike, to giving us information about Iceland and its history, it was just so good!!
Highly recommend early hike because when our group was heading back there were a lot of people in the trail and glacier

Amazing, amazing experience! Our guide was absolutely fantastic. She was high-energy, knowledgeable, and paid great attention to safety throughout the entire tour.
I especially appreciated that she gave everyone an opportunity to assess whether they felt comfortable continuing before we got too far into the experience. She made it clear that there was absolutely no pressure to continue if anyone felt they were in over their head, and even assured us that anyone who decided not to continue would receive a refund. I thought that was incredibly professional and showed that safety genuinely came first.
The tour was also very educational, and our guide made the whole experience fun from beginning to end. I would absolutely recommend this tour. Best tour I’ve done in Iceland so far!

Fantastic experience. They made sure we were safe. Our guide OSKAR was awesome. We got to see a valley in the ice, he guided us expertly. There was a lot of education as well, so we learned about glaciers.

This glacier hike was the highlight of our 10-day trip! (We took many beautiful waterfall, glacier, ocean and mountain View hikes - everyone agreed this one was our favorite. Two adults, two teens.)
Eric was our tour guide. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. Walking with the krampons was easier than we thought. We were in a small group. Eric paused and gave us information at several spots along the way, which also gave everyone in the group time to take a quick rest and take in all the sights, and take photos. We felt safe and in good hands with Eric. So much fun! Thank you for creating wonderful family glacier hiking memories for us. Tips: Make sure you wear tall hiking boots that cover your ankles or you will have to rent a pair. Make sure to bring gloves even if it’s not very cold to protect your hands in case you fall. (We did not fall, but were warned that the ice with lava rock imbedded can scrap like sandpaper, thus strongly advised to wear gloves). Wear layers. We hiked on a nice partly sunny day in the 50s (F) in late June wearing fleece-lined water-resistant hiking pants and a lightweight long-sleeve base layer sunscreen top, lightweight merino wool jacket, lightweight puffer vest, and ear headband covers. We were plenty warm. I shed the puffer vest and ear band layers by the end. Our day back packs included wind/rain coats and pants in case we needed it. My waterproof hiking boots are not ankle covering so I had to rent theirs- theirs were very comfortable. They gave each of us 1 coupon to use their bathrooms, otherwise they are expensive pay bathrooms.

This is a must do if you are in Iceland! Dennis, our guide, was so knowledgeable and made our experience feel very personal. We hiked at an easy pace and I never felt rushed. We saw a lot of the Glacier, we were able to explore an ice cave and do some easy repelling. It was one of my favorite things we experienced in Iceland.

My flight was delayed due to weather. Attempted to contact the tour through the only means provided, no phone number given through booking confirmation. Messaged two hours prior to tour start communicating that my group would be 15 minutes late. Asked whether we should complete the 2 1/2 hour drive to the meeting spot, or if it would be too late to join the excursion. No response. Got to the meeting location and was told that everybody had checked in so the tour left. Giving the guide the benefit of the doubt that we were counted as present when we definitely were not, but very disappointed that there was no communication and no refund given. Even partial refund would have been appreciated and understood. We were given nothing, not even a sorry for leaving without you and having no communication. Don’t book this tour unless you are absolutely sure 100% there will be no delays in your travel. They will leave without you and they will not refund you for this expensive tour.

Great experience, awesome guide named Sam. My family and I had a great time in our small group of about 12 (6 were our family). Our guide told us about the history of the glacier and the area. He took time to share safety tips and ensured that we were safe the entire time. The company’s equipment was great, we rented boots from them as well. Highly recommend.

I was on the fence about doing this (was concerned it would be too strenuous) and I am so glad I did because it was my favorite experience in Iceland. I would say it's not terribly strenuous from a cardiovascular perspective, but walking on the glacier does require some moderate level of balance and agility, so I would stay away if you have any orthopedic issues. Our guide, Heini, was incredible and her enthusiasm was infectious. And we learned a lot as well!

We loved this! Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. We felt safe the entire time. The crampons worked magic on the ice. We got to walk into a small ice tunnel/hole, which was definitely a highlight. Glad we went early in the morning - we were the only group out there for a bit, which was super nice. The hike was difficult for me, as I have a desk job and not much physical activity. But my husband was having no issues. Nonetheless it was amazing and totally worth the hike. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable. Helped take pictures. Showed us cool stuff. Would recommend. No regrets.

Sophia, our guide, was great! I felt safe and taken care of. Miraculously, we had beautiful sunny, clear weather and also only our family in our group! We are not sure how that happened, as other groups looked full. Either way, we learned a lot and saw a lot! Really cool to be on the glacier. Tip: Bring sunglasses that wrap around because the wind will blow black dust/ash into your eyes on the walk there. Once you get to the glacier, there is nothing blowing like that but the walk to/from can be dusty!
