Great museum! Quite interactive- had vibrating plates to simulate different movements in the earth and a big wheel to turn that took you through the history of the formation of Iceland. Amazing views from the roof where you can see all the volcanoes (which is all mapped out very simply which was helpful). The film about the volcanoes was great, out 4 year old was very impressed and it helped with explaining the different eruptions (really smoky one, one with lots of lava etc). Quite similar to what's in the Petlan Museum in Reykjavik

Absolutely Unique, Bang for time and money, both for adults and kids, very well presented by host....

The lava centre offers two options. A 20 min film and and exhibit. Both helped us understand Icelandic volcanos better. The exhibit is an interactive walk thru. Go early while it is still quiet because once it’s busy having to wait in line to see each part would be frustrating.

The rooftop observatory was a FANTASTIC wrap-up of the overall exhibit to get a clear understanding of the nature of the volcanic activity on Iceland!

Kids really liked it, and engaged with the content. Ages 4, 6, 11. They loved the self pace. Would recommend.

Very interesting exhibition. We stopped here on our way to see some waterfalls, to learn a bit of history of the area, the different type of volcanos and terrain, and the seismic activity of Iceland. The museum is very nicely done. Their facilities and restaurants are also great, and a good place to stop if the weather turns around and you need a place to stay dry.
