We had an amazing time on this Shinjuku foodie tour! Hiro was an outstanding guide - kind, knowledgeable, and made the experience so enjoyable. With only one other guest, it felt almost like a private tour for our family of four. The food was incredible - it was the best sushi I’ve ever had, and our teens couldn’t stop talking about the wagyu. We highly recommend this tour, and if you’re lucky enough to get Hiro as your guide, you’re in for a fantastic experience!

This was a lovely little tour of the temple and Akira was very kind and respectful, and provided just the right amount of cultural and historical context without going too deep into details. He was able to answer all of our questions to our satisfaction, and we enjoyed his sense of humor. He also kindly pointed out nearby restaurants where we could enjoy a vegan meal. Note: this is a great place to get your souvenir shopping done. We wished we had spent more time shopping for authentic Japanese items in this area - since we only visited a few neighborhoods on our Tokyo trip, and Asakusa had by far the best shopping with the most variety.

Consider the Weather for this Walking Tour

Very interesting tour, however, the weather was too hot and unbearable. The guide was excellent. Three other guests left the tour after one hour because of the heat. The meeting point should be described as between the subject gate and Starbucks. The current description is confusing and I got conflicting information on the meeting point from Google Maps and the Viator site.

Yuki was fantastic! I booked my tour for a Tuesday afternoon and ended up being the only person for that time. Yuki treated me like a VIP and gave me a great experience! He started at our meeting point telling me about the Shinjuku station and how much the area has been built up since before the 50s to now. Every detail was so interesting! This is my first time in Japan and I stepped out of my comfort zone signing up to do this tour by myself. Yuki made me feel so comfortable and I felt like I was walking around with a friend, not a tour guide. We laughed and joked the whole time. He answered all my questions. When we went to a shrine in the area, he told me what each area was for. When I asked if I could wish/pray at one of the areas, he was more than happy to help me do it right. From cleansing myself with the water, to providing me with a coin, and showing me how to bow and clap properly. It was a beautiful experience.
