Korean alcohol is a lot more than just a green bottle of soju, which is diluted ethanol with artificial sweetener. Broadly, Korean alcohols are divided into Tak-ju (unfiltered rice wine), Cheong-ju (filtered clear rice wine) and So-ju (distilled spirit). Here, we will focus on our specialty, soju, but we can also taste other types too. Samhae soju was a beloved choice of spirit among the noble class of Joseon dynasty(1392~1894). This luxurious alcohol had caused cult following, but the making was so resource(rice)-heavy that production had to stop during famines. The current master, Hyeonjong Kim had learned and practiced for more than 10 years under master Taeksang Kim who had inherited and kept the recipe in the family. Fun afternoon taking a Korean cooking class at Seoul Cooking Club! Seven courses in 2.5 hours. Family style meal with group at the end, with takeout boxes to take leftovers home, too. Delicious dessert made by our chef/teacher, Sharon. Class catered to dietary needs, ingredients were prepped, and dishes, tools, and techniques explained with great care. A tote bag and cookbook were included, too. Highly recommend if you find yourself in Seoul! ♥️🇰🇷👩‍🍳

A very authentic, informative, rich and enjoyable experience. I loved the walk-through of Mangwon market learning about the vast array of ingredients and food on display and seeing how the wonderful Jomin & the traders interacted. Her explanations about the nuances of when & how produce is used in and off season; the different snacks, side dishes and fresh seafood, was a masterclass. Her knowledge and love for Korean food was evident & is something to celebrate. And, for the first time, I saw sesame seeds being roasted and pressed for oil-a real treat to discover. This part of the day in itself is worth booking the course for. Our kimchi-making class was wonderful: we made 4 types with clear & patient guidance by Jomin. Her facility is top tier- spacious, comfortable, light, airy and very well-equipped. The class was unrushed and thoroughly enjoyable. As a fairly experienced cook, I was surprised at how many new things and techniques I learnt. Thank you Jomin. As we settled into basting our vegetables like pros, Jomin masterfully prepared a delicious pork dish which we ate with relish accompanied by samples of the 4 types of kimchi we had made. She provided bags and a tightly-sealed container for us to pack & store our Kimchi, ready for travel. With all the ingredients provided on this course, the time spent on it, lunch, the book of recipes and the to-go packaging, I would rate it 10/10 for generosity and value. I loved it. Do not hesitate to book it!

Well worth it

I can’t say enough great things about this tour. I went solo and got to meet so many great people while we explored the palace, temple and shared food together. Our guide, Young, seemed excited to share his city with us, and had a lot of great facts about each of our stops. This is definitely worth the booking, and I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to explore a part of Seoul at night.

An Unforgettable Night Tour of Seoul with Kim

My family and I loved this private tour with Kim. All the views of Seoul this night tour provided were second to none. Going up to the tower was awesome. Naksan Park at night is a game changer when it comes to great views of Seoul at night. The Kwangjang Market is historic along with the foods/snacks. Kim’s attention to detail on this tour was terrific as he explained and showed us how a traditional Korean BBQ is done. Kim educated my family and I on this tour and we are truly grateful to him. Really cool experience and a great introduction to premium Korean makgeolli! The tasting was relaxed, interesting, and very well explained without feeling too formal. You can tell a lot of care goes into both the brewing and the presentation. Definitely recommend this if you want a unique way to experience Korean culture.

This was a great time. Easy meetup outside the subway. We got a guided tour through the market (which was much less crowded with tourists than the Gwangjang market in Jongno I’d been to) and a bit of time to explore on our own. Then we went to the cooking school where each participant had their own cooking station. Everything was really well-planned and the food itself was truly delicious! Impossible to know ahead how a group is going to be, but ours was really fun. Great people to hang out with and enjoy the evening.

Our host was amazing 👏 She explained all the dishes & informed us on exactly what to do. Can't fault this experience, I'd 100% recommend. Best part of our trip!!!

Mike has deep connections in the market. With Mike’s experience, we experienced parts of Seoul that we wouldn’t have known, including a few rooftops, a back alley that serves just about everything raw, and a few tents that make better food than anyone else in town. What our group really like was the flexible nature of the tour. It was up to us how deep into Korean Cuisine and how many Korean beverages we wanted to experience (so don’t forget to bring the recommended won before the tour so that you can splurge if you want to!!!). This was the best part of our trip and I hope to see Mike again when I return to Seoul!

Such a great experience!

This was the first cooking class I've ever taken and it was such a wonderful experience. We were taken through the market and the different types of ingredients, fruits, and veggies were explained to us along with being able to try some gimbap and donuts. Our guide was super knowledgeable, fun, and passionate about food. The cooking class was done in her house and it was set up beautifully. I was able to make a whole Korean meal with multiple dishes and side dishes and it was enough food so that I couldn't even eat dinner later that night. It was such a good tour, highly recommend!
