Entertaining and Convenient

Really liked our Edinburgh Castle tour with James from All Star Tours. He’s an actual historian, teacher, so it felt like we were getting the real history rather than someone just reading off notes of wiki. He was really knowledgeable but also entertaining and kept it interesting throughout. Booking tour through Viator made it easier to get tickets for the time we wanted too and were able to see the 1pm firing of the gun. Would definitely book tour again using the guide.

I absolutely loved this tour. Our guide Karen was so wonderful. She waskind, funny, and full of stories of history, folklore and more. I felt immersed in Scottish culture all day, it was magical. Each stop was well thought out and gave us time to take photos, stretch our legs, shop, eat or use a restroom. It was a long but lovely day. I only wish I could do another with her to further explore the Isle of Skye.

See a lot in one day! Worth the trip. Bring snacks!

The trip with Hairy Coo Tours was great! We saw so much that we never would have seen on our own. Though we had a rental car while in Edinburgh, I would not have wanted to take on the highland roads ourselves. Craig kept us safe all day, and was a perfect tour guide! He told lots of great stories, even some fun personal ones, but also let the group rest on the longer rides between stops and played some soft Scottish music in the background. He also made a detour comfort stop when the restrooms were unexpectedly closed at one of the stops. Reading other reviews made me question if the very long day would be worth it, but I can assure you that it is, especially if you're short on time and want to see a lot. We did the whiskey distillery option, and really loved that the tasting was offered "to go" so we could enjoy the whiskeys on our own time (and not at 10 a.m.!). The distillery tour is 19.50 GBP, which took some fellow travelers by surprise (even though it is clearly laid out in the Viator description!). Tip: Pack snacks or a lunch to eat on the bus between stops so you don't spend time at the stops waiting for average food. At Fort Augustus there are some overpriced food options, but you'll want to use that time to go down to Loch Ness and explore the area. If you do the whiskey tour option, there's also an option to purchase a packaged lunch from the distillery. We enjoyed the stop at Pitlochry, had a drink in the local pub and tried the famous whisky ice cream, but the rest of the town was quiet - all shops closed. Not sure if this needs to be as long of a stop, but may have just been the day or the season. Thanks to Craig for the great day and for keeping us safe on the windy roads of the Highlands!

A very entertaining way to see the best of the Highlands! Our driver was knowledgeable and humorous so you were never bored. It’s a very long day with a lot of sites to be seen so prepare for that. A good deal of rest stops and plenty of opportunities to eat or get a pint so the day is well broken up and didn't ever feel long.
