Top Sao Miguel Day Trips

We had the most incredible full-day tour with Sergio from Green Zone Tours, and it was honestly one of the highlights of our entire trip! Sergio was wonderful from start to finish — incredibly knowledgeable, funny, and so easygoing. He made everyone feel comfortable and completely at ease throughout the day. You could tell how much he genuinely loves the island and enjoys sharing it with visitors. We learned so much about the history, culture, landscape, and hidden gems of the Azores, and Sergio was able to answer every question we threw at him. His knowledge of the island was incredible! The Defender was beautiful 💚 Sergio took us to see some beautiful beaches and a few of his favourite local spots while we waited for the fog to burn off for the grand finale Lagoa do Fogo! And it was so worth the wait! When the fog finally cleared, the view from the top was absolutely STUNNING. 🌋😍 We also discovered Santa Bárbara Beach, which ended up being another favourite stop — and a place we probably never would have found without Sergio! What made the day so special was that it didn't feel like we were simply being taken from one tourist attraction to another. It felt like we were exploring the island with a local who genuinely wanted us to experience the best of São Miguel. I would highly recommend doing this tour at the beginning of your trip. Sergio is not only an amazing guide, but he can give you great ideas and recommendations for the rest of your stay. His local knowledge can point you in the right direction for beaches, places to visit, things to see, and experiences you might otherwise miss. What a fantastic day!
