We (family of 6) spent a full day with Jose touring Furnas. He shared stories and history of the places we went. And went out of his way to drop us off or pick us up as close as possible to ensure my husband with limited mobility was able to see all the sites. Jose started the day with car trouble but that did not stop him from getting us around the island. Just made it more of an adventure. Jose was wonderful, knowledgeable and took us places we would not have seen on our own. We would definitely recommend booking with Jose and would absolutely book with him again.

The entire tour was fabulous! Jose is very knowledgeable of the volcanic and political history of the Azores. He went above and beyond all expectations. The garden and hot springs were beautiful and all 4 in our party enjoyed the tour. Book your private tour with Jose.

Best tour ever! Jose was so knowledgeable- geography, history, political, and religious. He catered the tour to us and our interest. He was so personable and kept everyone interested from my 12 year old son to my 68 year old mother. This tour is just phenomenal!!

We will talk about this tour for years to come and book a tour with Jose whenever we return to the Azores. Jse's knowledge of the island and flora and fauna is unmatched. He never rushed us at any location and our tour ran well over which was so nice. The thermal baths, tea house and lunch was exceptional. If you want to learn about the island and see sites you won't get anywhere else, you must book this tour!

Amazing experience! Joseph was so knowledgeable and attentive. We learned a lot about Azorean history & had a great time seeing all the sights. This full day tour helped us see so much - if we would’ve tried to do this on our own it would’ve taken 3 days & we still wouldn’t have gotten a fraction done that we did. 100% recommend!

Great way to spend the day in Sao Miguel! Jose was our guide and was an incredible wealth of knowledge. His enthusiasm for the island, it’s history, culture and nature made the tour even more special. The tour was well paced, we covered a lot of ground but it wasn’t overwhelming. Had a super lunch and were extremely comfortable and well taken care of. Highly recommend Jose as a guide - I am sure all of his tours are wonderful.

I booked this tour with my mother. We were initially a little concerned that my mother would not be able to keep up due to her advanced age and mobility limitations. We were so blessed to have José as our guide, He took such good care of my mom to ensure she could see everything. And he was so patient and compassionate! My mother is so appreciative. This tour was wonderful. We could not have seen these places without José and he was very knowledgeable about the history, nature and geography. I can write an entire novel about all the wonderful things we did, but that would take too long. Overall. I highly recommend this tour and guide! Thanks José :-)

Jose is an outstanding local tour guide. His in-depth knowledge gave us insight into the history, culture and wonderful nature of Sao Miguel. We enjoyed swimming in the thermal pool, tasting traditional cozido cuisine and sampling the mineral spring waters. Thank You Jose for such a memorable day!

This was an awesome tour. Our tour guide came prepared with water, cookies, and towels for the hot springs located in the Botanical Gardens. He was friendly, informative and let you experience the sights at your own pace. Furnas was an unique experience, watching the water bubble up and the steam rise from the volcano was amazing. Seeing the pots of stew and the bags of corn cooking in the hot steaming water was very cool. Tasting all of the different mineral waters was like taste testing beers at a local brewery. The stew cooked in the volcano was terrific.

Jose is an exceptional tour guide with an amazing attitude with expert knowledge of the local flora and fauna not to mention the local legends. You will not be disappointed. We would have booked all our tours with him had we known. This was an active tour with lots of hiking to areas you cannot see from a vehicle. The beautiful of this island is found in the little hidden places that can only be seen when exploring. Jose kept us captivated with stories of the areas we visited and was always patient and thoughtful when answering our questions. You will not regret booking with Carpe Diem. Our only regret was that the tour ended so quickly. Time seemed to go by so fast and there is still so much to see and taste.
A heartfelt thanks to Jose and all that he did to make our visit a memorable one.

This was such an awesome, personal tour! Our guide took us to so many amazing areas on the islands and personalized our day to our preferences and physical ability. I usually do not like tours as they can be a little generic, but our guide was amazing and I actually can't wait to come back for another one of their tours. You get to see so many remote parts of the island that cannot be accessed by large groups or vehicles. This island is gorgeous and the landscapes are like nowhere else I've been. We did a combination of driving and hiking according to our preferences and it was amazing to see so many awesome geological formations and literally thousands of plant species. You could really feel the Azoreans live of ecology and their beautiful land, so if you love nature and untouched places this is the way to go!

We loved every aspect of this tour! The tour guide, we called himJosef, was simply the best guide we've ever encountered. So knowledgeable and friendly! Carpe Diem tours is exceptional. We went all over Sao Miguel, Josef was so accommodating we were in awe. The sights were amazing, the restaurants we went to were fantastic. This is the best tour and guide to see the island. It was so interesting and fun. After seeing my pictures, our friends want to go there too. 5 stars, for sure!
