Beautiful Meteora
The bus ride of 4 hours each way is a little daunting, but Meteora itself is awe inspiring. There was no commentary at all during the 8 hrs there and back. When we arrived in Kalambaka, we picked up our guide Clement who was lovely and informative. We walked up at least 700 steps, definitely got the cardio today! I don’t remember it being quite as difficult 30+ years ago. Food was cafeteria style, got us in and out. Bathroom stops were clean and ok.

On your bike.
Great way to see meteora and visit some monasteries, so glad we did it this way and not by car or bus. You get to park your bike right at the front. Our guide Chris was awesome and alot of fun as well. Would highly recommend.

There are no words!
An amazing day! Meteora was an amazing experience. Our guide, Clement, was perfection! The day could not have been better! His knowledge and humor made the day even better. He explained things so everyone could understand and timed the day perfectly! He even arranged for a new bus when the AC on ours wasn’t working! The monasteries are beyond words beautiful! And the scenery is mind blowing! Can’t say enough about him and the trip!

A good day trip to Meteora
A very well organised and run day trip to Meteora, with a lovely and informative guide (Eleni). We had a great day and highly recommend.

Meteora byzantine monasteries perched on top of steep rocks, Greece
  • Wear comfortable shoes, bring sunscreen and water, and prepare to walk---all but one of the monasteries is reached by steep steps.

  • Visitors to the monasteries must have their shoulders and knees covered, and wraps are provided at the entrance.

  • The best options for restaurants and cafés are in Kalampaka, so bring a packed lunch if you plan to spend the day.

  • Be sure to check the opening days and times of the monasteries in advance, as they vary.

  • Plan to visit two or three monasteries on a day tour---to visit all six, you will need a 2-day tour.

  • St. Stephen's Monastery (Agios Stephanos) is the only wheelchair-accessible monastery.
