Katerina was WONDERFUL! She is extremely knowledgeable and made the hike so fun. We ended up being the only two on the tour for that evening and she made sure that we had a great experience. The end of the hike led us to a breathtaking sunset view; certainly one we won’t forget! There were parts that were somewhat steep (such as getting to the cave) but even with standard running sneakers we felt comfortable the entire time We would highly recommend this tour!

What a fun hike with an incredible guide! We had such a great experience. Honestly, I would do the hike a bunch of times over instead of going to do one of the tours. We saw so much more.

My husband and I did the sunset caves hike late June. It was an incredible experience for both of us, and ended up being one of our favourite experiences during our time in Greece.
Due to time constraints, we did the hike the day we arrived in Meteora (barely a day after we had arrived in Greece). I was a little bit worried that the hike would be too strenuous after almost 2 days of travel, and voiced my concern to Nicholas, our tour guide. Immediately, he assured me that it is okay to go slow and that health & safety was the utmost priority.
Nicholas had an abundance of knowledge and answered all kinds of questions we had about the area, monastic life, and even flora & fauna. We felt like we could ask him anything.
We saw the exterior of the hermit caves, the town, the monk prison, and the monasteries from interesting vantage points below. Before booking this tour, I read a comment that we wouldn’t be entering the hermit caves but passing by the outside. Nicholas did a great job demonstrating why this was as the sandstone was quite fragile (and the hermit caves seemed inaccessible).
The hike was often times uphill. Because we were hiking through the forest, it provided a decent amount of shade. However, we’d definitely recommend bringing adequate water and sun protection.
(Please note that my husband and I are mid-level active. The hike was not overly challenging but there was some level of exertion required.)

A must to do to get a good understanding about Meteora and its culture. We highlight the visit to the caves. One of our family members had an unfortunate incident and the help received was just as needed. We really recommend to book this activity if you are in Meteora

Harry was a great guide! He was well informed and kept us at pace. This is beautiful hike, but with a lot of inclines and descents. Wear good shoes for hiking and take your water:)

We had a great hike and learned tons from Katerina. She knew so much history and was patient with this 65 year old who isn’t as steady on her feet as she once was. And oh the most beautiful sunset. Do this tour, you won’t be sorry

The tour was fantastic, and they went ahead with it even though there were only two of us. Nikolas, our guide, was incredibly knowledgeable and shared many entertaining stories. The hike was stunning. I highly recommend staying overnight in Kalambaka and taking this tour.

Amazing hike - it was our 18- and 20-year-olds’ favorite part of our trip to Greece! Katarina was an awesome, informative guide and took us to the most beautiful views. It is a bit strenuous - lots of uphill, but worth every step!

This hiking tour was a fantastic experience! Highly recommend to others visiting the area!
Experience:
Seeing the monasteries on a hiking tour was a unique experience. You are treated to views that you can't see from a standard bus/driving tour. The hike was around 5-6km with some short sections of trail that were rocky or a little steep, but overall not too difficult (we had good weather but I imagine it might get a bit slippery when wet). From the initial description we expected to actually hike into some caves, but this was a bit misleading - you only get to observe the caves on the cliffside as you walk through the forest. We ended the tour at one of the monasteries, which we then passed to reach a scenic spot for sunset views over the rocks and mountains.
Guide:
Nikos was our great guide - he was very friendly and knowledgeable. He was able to teach us a lot about the history of Meteora as we went, pointing out key landmarks as we passed them on our hike. He was helpful in leading us along the trail and flagging any trickier sections. He also knew all the best spots for us to get photos along the way (and doubles up as a decent photographer). The tour company offered pickup from our hotel, which was useful.
Overall, a great experience. If you enjoy hiking or travelling in a more active/adventurous way I would definitely recommend this over a bus tour!

This is the best thing we did in Meteora!! So much better than just visiting the monasteries!! If you like to hike: this tour is for you!!! The guide was extremely knowledgeable about the both the geological origins of the area and the history of the monasteries. He helped us determine which monasteries to visit the next day and even where to eat dinner. He went over and above to assure that our entire stay was enjoyable. Not just the 4 hours he spent with us on the tour.

This is NOT a repeat of the Monastery Tour. It is an awesome hiking tour through the forests/caves at the bottom of the rocks. You get totally different views and get to experience being in and near the caves.
Water and an extremely knowledgeable guide are provided. Make sure you have hiking shoes and are able willing to hike up some rocky areas and stairs.
We did this as a group of 8 several 50 year olds and teens from 13 to 17.
All of us loved it, we felt we got a much fuller experience of Meteora.
