Overview

Verona sits at the heart of Valpolicella wine country, but most central tastings stick to enoteca (wine store) pours rather than letting you see where the wine is made. Visit Corte San Mattia with a guided walk through the countryside and a cellar, and enjoy a tasting of five wines—served up with tasty local produce—on a terrace overlooking the city.
  • Sample five locally produced wines with snack pairings
  • Go behind-the-scenes to learn how wine is produced
  • Take a break from the city and explore a rural setting
  • Gain insight you'd otherwise miss with a guided tasting experience

This was a truly special experience that I’ll never forget. The Corte San Mattia wine tasting was personal, peaceful, and beautifully curated. I happened to be the only person on the tour that day, which made it feel even more exclusive and intimate. The estate is absolutely beautiful – perched on a hill with panoramic views over Verona. It's not just a winery, but also a working farm, restaurant, and guesthouse, making it a perfect retreat for those interested in agritourism or sustainable travel. My guide, Magdelina, was warm, friendly, and very knowledgeable. She explained each wine in detail and told me exactly which food to pair with each one. The pairings were thoughtful and elevated the tasting experience — the wines were high-quality, and the food was both generous and delicious. Magdelina also kindly took many great photos of me throughout the tour, which was a lovely bonus. I also took time to explore the estate afterward and found a beautiful panoramic pool — the views were absolutely stunning, and the warm weather made it feel like a little slice of paradise. One important note: there are no hotel pickups, so you’ll need to arrange your own transport. I took a taxi from Verona which cost around €30 each way. Something to keep in mind — but honestly, it was more than worth it. Highly recommended for wine lovers, foodies, or anyone wanting to enjoy an authentic, scenic, and relaxing experience just outside Verona

The tour guide was great. The wine was amazing and you couldn’t get a better view of Verona stunning

    Fantastic wine tasting with views

    Jo_K, Jun 2026
Fantastic wine tasting in stunning surroundings with a view across all of Verona. The guide was great - walked us round the vineyard (a bit rough under foot but nothing that flipflops couldn’t handle), and showed us the barrels where the wine aged before we did the tasting. The wines were excellent and the plate of meats and cheeses they served with it was amazing. We got there by cab - there is a bus apparently but we didn’t try it - about €14 from the centre of Verona. Took a little while to get a cab back but they helped us book one and it wasn’t a hardship staying a little longer in such beautiful and welcoming surroundings. Apparently they have rooms to stay as well so well worth exploring that next time.

Disorganized Wine Tasting and Misleading Details

    dawn_c, Jan 2026
We had a booking for this wine tasting, but the experience was extremely disappointing and poorly organized from start to finish. The directions provided in the app led us to the wrong location, requiring a 45-minute walk from our hotel. We arrived five minutes early, only to learn we were at the incorrect address. After navigating through a different section of the app, we found the correct location and arrived about 15 minutes after the tasting had started. When we arrived, the event was hosted at a hotel with a long line of people, which caused additional delays. By the time we checked in, we were told the group had already gone to the vineyard—something that was never communicated in advance. We were eventually seated at a table, but no one acknowledged or spoke to us for approximately 45 minutes. At that point, there were only about 30 minutes left in the entire experience. The tasting was advertised as being conducted in English, yet multiple times the host spoke in another language, making it difficult to follow or understand. Additionally, the experience was marketed as “panoramic,” but it was dark outside, so there was no view. Even if it had been light out, the view itself was minimal and did not match the description. Overall, the lack of clear directions, poor communication, misleading advertising, and general disorganization made this a very frustrating experience. Unfortunately, it was not worth the time or cost.

    Response from Host, Jan 2026

We are sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; however, we would like to clarify a few important points for future guests. First of all, the meeting address provided in the app and booking confirmation is correct, and has been successfully used by hundreds of guests. Unfortunately, you arrived more than 20 minutes after the scheduled start time, despite our correct address and our clear request to arrive at least 5 minutes in advance. By that time, the group had already proceeded according to the planned itinerary. The tasting is conducted in English, as advertised. During the experience, our host also briefly translated some explanations into a second language as a courtesy to other participants, while still delivering the experience in English. Regarding the panoramic view, we can confidently state that our terrace offers a wonderful view of Verona, as shown in hundreds of photos on Viator, Tripadvisor and all our socials. Weather conditions, fog, and early winter sunsets are factors obviously outside of our control, and can affect visibility. We are proud of the care and dedication we put into our experiences, which are appreciated by hundreds of guests every year. We regret that timing and external factors impacted your visit, and we hope this clarification is helpful to future travelers.

    So good!

    Beautiful Wine and Beautiful Winery!

    Sara_N, Oct 2025
My husband and I had a great time on this tour and it was so peaceful being above the city drinking wine. The staff even prepared us an amazing vegan snack that we LOVED! After the tasting we got to explore the winery and the beautiful landscape, which made it even more special! Would definitely recommend this to anyone!

    Response from Host, Jan 2026

Thank you so much for the review! We do our best and it' wonderful when we receive this kind of review. See you soon!

    Good tour, better wine.

    Kevin_M, Oct 2025
Winery and hotel grounds were lovely. My 2 year old tried to help the guide, but they took his spirit in stride. Wine was surprisingly good. Would consider staying at the hotel if our family plans were aligned.

We really appreciate your kind review! Hope to see you and your family soon

Quiet respite from touristy city center.

    Teresa_M, Oct 2025
Very informative walk through the vineyard and wine making process. Our guide was delightful. Tour finishes on a terrace with a panoramic view over Verona. Small groups, coupled with glasses of wine, make for easy laughter. Location is accessible via bus #70, but they are infrequent so plan ahead. Taxi service is also available.

    What a beautiful place!

    Tracy_O, Oct 2025
What a beautiful place! From the staff, to the setting and of course, the wine!, we had a lovely afternoon.

Wish we could do this again!

    Nicole_L, Oct 2025
You learn so much about the wine production & process! The guided tasting and views are amazing! Both women, the tour guide and the tasting guide, were knowledgeable and super sweet. The food pairing notes with each wine was incredible and you could really taste the difference when eating the different cheeses and meats.

    Nice wine tasting

    Bonnie_M, Oct 2025
Very pretty vineyard/grounds. Very new so none of that old world feel in the cellars etc but nicely done and informative. Wines were good and view was nice. Some of the trees/bushes were grown up somewhat blocking the view. Was hoping to see sunset but can't from this vantage point but that's not on them! Was server a charcuterie board with the wine which was nice. Our wine tour operator did a nice job and handled the whole thing on her on pretty much. In my opinion based on other wine tours I've done in Italy and other countries this was a little pricey for what you get. I'm not disappointed I did it but not sure I'd do it again. One note to people coming for this that don't have a car... We took a taxi there but figured we'd take the 70 bus back... Didn't know it only comes every 30 min or so. So you're either waiting or walking back to the city which we did. So either call a can from the venue or be prepared to walk or wait!

    Great experience!

We enjoyed the tour and wine and amazing views! Perfect afternoon! Just what you need if you are on a short break in Verona!

Great experience for a reasonable price. Very good wine tour from Naomi, with detailed explanations along the course of the experience. I am not a wine expert, but I really enjoyed the tour and wine tasting.

This was a great tour. It was a small group with individual interaction. The tour guide was very personable and knowledgeable. The wine tasting was accompanied by a very nice meat, cheese and bread plate.

Do not miss this relaxed wine tour.

    Iain_B, Aug 2025
Such a lovely relaxed and informative event. The young lady (our guide) was friendly and had great knowledge. The tour of the vineyard was excellent and the wine tasting and food was perfect. So chilled and in the most magnificent setting with views across Verona. This was the second time we have done this tour as we loved it so much. This time was even better. Thank you so much for a wonderful day.

A great experience, would highly recommend.

    John_D, Aug 2025

Not for People who like Wine

    julieannkimelman, Jul 2025
This is half winery tour (like the many you might have experienced before) and half a tasting of only the winery’s products. I thought it was 2 hours of tastings from the region and at least several different wineries. The winery’s guide spoke so quickly we couldn’t tell whether she was speaking English or Italian. Nice view and plate of meats and cheeses, but didn’t make up for mediocre wines at best.

    Response from Host, Jul 2025

We're sorry to hear the experience didn’t meet your expectations. However, we’d like to kindly point out that all the details you mentioned as unexpected are clearly stated on the Viator experience page: Under "What’s Included", it specifies a guided tour of the countryside and the cellar. In the "What to Expect" section, we explain again that experience starts with a visit of the winery and the vineyard, and that after the visit the guests will taste 5 wines made in our winery (Bianco IGP, Valpolicella, Valpolicella Superiore, Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore, and Amarone) accompanied by a platter of typical local products, all served on our panoramic terrace overlooking Verona. The "Overview" clearly mentions that the wines tasted are local, organic, and produced on-site. And finally, the duration of the experience is listed as 1 hour 30 minutes (approx.), not 2 hours. We always strive to make sure guests have a clear idea of what to expect, which is why we include all these details on the booking page. We're sorry if there was any confusion, and we hope this helps clarify the nature of our experience.
