Pretty poor experience, happy with all of the pre communication etc, easy to meet at the meeting point etc but severely overpriced. We paid over £180 for tickets that on the day cost no more then £65 to get on site. We got nothing extra except an audio guide which is also rather poor and vague. Talked into buying skip the line tickets which make no difference. Still had to queue up, our line entered at the same time as everyone else. The Vatican in general, do not visit in July, way too busy and over sold. Over crowded everywhere, no space or time to properly look at anything or take proper pictures. Disappointing.
Response from Host, Jul 2026
Hi Shaun,
Thank you for your feedback.
We’re pleased to hear that the booking process, communication, and meeting arrangements were smooth. Our service helps guests secure Vatican entry tickets in advance, especially during busy periods when availability can be limited, and includes the convenience of organised access and an audio guide.
We appreciate your comments and hope to welcome you again for a more enjoyable experience.
Greg_R, Jul 2026
It didn't include access to St Peter's Basillica. For that much money, I felt ripped off. I really didn't need to see another museum with Jesus being murdered.
Response from Host, Jul 2026
Hi Greg_R,
I'm sorry to hear you could not access the Basilica.
It is not included if you booked the Skip the Line: Vatican & Sistine Chapel Ticket, as it can only be accessed with a Guided tour from inside the Museums and it is stated online that is not part of the experience.
Please reach out for any clarifications!
Eyad_K, Jul 2026
No help what’s so ever. They give u a ticket that you can buy anywhere in Rome and tell you get in a 30 minute line. No guidance of any kind
Response from Host, Jul 2026
Hi Eyad_K,
Thank you for the review.
However, there is no guide included on the Vatican & Sistine Chapel Ticket with Audio Guide, our representatives assist you on site with the tickets and the entrance.
You skip the general public queue, which is longer, however security checks are still mandatory and organized by the Museums staff.
I wish you a lovely stay in Rome!
Jennifer_O, Jul 2026
Good experience. The only criticism was that there were two different addresses on where to go to get to the tour that caused issues.
Ronald_L, Jul 2026
Plan on longer than the 3 hours. We stayed almost 5 hours and could have stayed longer. So many interesting things to see.
Diane_L, Jun 2026
This tour delivers what it says - a skip-the-line ticket with a (subpar) audio guide. The price is extraordinary compared to what the Vatican Museum’s own website charges, just 20 euro for an individual ticket, which still gets you into the Online Ticket / “skip-the-line” fast entrance. And the Vatican Museum has MUCH better and far more thorough audio guides available for rent for only 8 euro (look for the audio guide desk at the top of the stairs right before you enter the galleries). The only advantage to buying your ticket via Viator is that you’ll need to buy weeks in advance from the Vatican Museum’s own website; they only sell a limited number of online tickets and they sell out far in advance. The price that tour operators charge here on Viator is extraordinary, which leads one to believe they are buying group tickets in bulk and then charging an extraordinary markup. If you’re making a last-minute plan and price is no object, Viator is a fine option, but next time I’ll plan ahead and simply buy via MuseiVaticani.com. The museum itself is PHENOMENAL! Don’t miss the Etruscan galleries, which include Pre-Roman artifacts (some of the oldest in the museum), and were practically empty when we walked through. The Pinacoteca also should not be missed. We spent six hours going at a relaxed pace, using the museum’s audio guide, and only covered half of what is on display. We also had a lovely lunch at the bistro in the Pine courtyard. There are several coffee shops and restaurants onsite so if you have the luxury of a full day, then arrive early, eat onsite (they even have breakfast options), ignore the frenetic pace of the tourist groups rushing madly through, and enjoy this beautiful collection.
Response from Host, Jun 2026
Dear Diane_L,
Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your visit to the Vatican Museums and appreciated the incredible collections on display.
We understand your comments regarding pricing. Tickets on Viator include reserved admission secured through an authorized reseller, often providing availability when official tickets have already sold out. While prices may differ from those available directly through the Vatican, they reflect this added convenience and availability.
We appreciate your feedback regarding the audio guide and will take your comments into consideration as we continue to improve our guests' experience. Thank you again for sharing your insights.
Rebecca_B, Jun 2026
This was the bare minimum in terms of service and assistance. We downloaded an audio tour via an app called POPGUIDE. It didn’t quite have all of the places we walked to within the vatican museum. We all lined up on the stairs and she checked our tickets and gave us paper tickets and explained where to go lineup along the wall. We waited about a half hour and they open the gates so that we could go get scanned. Then it wasn’t very clear where to go in the museum to get started. We eventually found out we were looking for and were able to listen to some guidance in some of the rooms we walked through. It was very long, lots of stairs. Exhausted. We were glad to leave when we did finally.
Response from Host, Jun 2026
Hi Rebecca_B,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience.
We're sorry to hear that the service did not meet your expectations. This product is designed to provide skip-the-line entry assistance along with a self-guided audio tour, and we regret that the meeting process and museum navigation were not clear.
We also appreciate your feedback regarding the POPGUIDE audio tour content. The Vatican Museums are extensive, and while the audio guide is intended to highlight many of the key areas, we understand that some sections of the route may not have been covered as comprehensively as expected.
Your comments regarding the overall experience and the clarity of instructions have been noted and will be shared with the local team for improvements.
Deb_T, Jun 2026
Very easy to book and find City Wonders for the tickets. Clear communication - made everything easy.
Gordon_B, Jun 2026
Easy to find guide in blue shirt on the steps beside cafe. Enjoyed the self guiding with audio guide because it enabled us to go at our own pace.
Important note: There are many stairs on this tour!
Heather_P, Jun 2026
The audio is only about a couple of sections in the museum. Only about 5 minutes in total of information. Fairly useless.
Response from Host, Jun 2026
Thank you for your feedback, Heather.
We’re sorry to hear your experience didn’t meet your expectations. The audio guide is designed to accompany visitors throughout the Vatican Museums, providing commentary at key points of interest along the way. It highlights important sculptures, artworks, and gallery sections, with both audio explanations and written information available as you explore at your own pace.
We appreciate your comments and hope you were still able to enjoy the incredible art and history the Vatican Museums have to offer.
Helen_H, May 2026
Definitely recommend. Great communication , met staff to get tickets easily and were friendly and helpful
Sharon_B, May 2026
Lots of people. Busy busy busy! Be prepared to see the chapel at the end of the winding maze of rooms and halls.
Response from Host, May 2026
Thank you for sharing your experience!
The Vatican Museums are certainly one of the most visited attractions in the world, and the journey through the galleries to the Sistine Chapel can be quite busy, especially during peak times.
We’re glad you were able to experience the incredible collection and reach the chapel at the end of the visit. We appreciate your helpful advice for future visitors and hope you enjoyed the highlights of your tour.
Lauren_K, May 2026
The skip the line portion is helpful, but the audio guide is so confusing that my group as well as other couples in my tour group all had to buy the Vatican audio guide
Response from Host, May 2026
Hi Lauren,
Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad you found the skip-the-line access helpful.
Regarding the audio guide, it is designed as a self-guided tool provided for convenience, and many visitors use it without difficulty; however, we understand that experience can vary from person to person.
We’re sorry to hear it did not feel clear for your group on this occasion. We appreciate your comments, as they help us continue improving the experience for future guests.
Vivian_C, May 2026
The location to pick up vouchers was too far and out of the way from the main route to the Vatican, it defeated the plan of skipping the line I paid a lot for the tickets Felt like a third world country picking up clandestine documents Io should have been electronically
Response from Host, May 2026
Dear Vivian_C,
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear that the ticket collection process felt stressful, but we would like to clarify a few details regarding your experience.
Our designated meeting point for voucher collection is located across the street from the main Vatican Museums entrance, chosen specifically to keep you as close to the entry point as possible. Additionally, the line you encountered was not for purchasing tickets, but rather the mandatory security checkpoint. Airport-style security screening is strictly required for every single guest entering Vatican City, and unfortunately, no ticket or tour agency has the authority to bypass these mandatory government safety checks.
While we must operate within the physical security constraints of the venue, we continuously look for ways to streamline our check-in process for a more comfortable arrival.
Nicki_L, May 2026
Horrible! We paid extra for “skip the line” but yet you get in a line miles long with everyone else. It also stated and I paid for a “tour guide” that would access us through the entrance to skip the line in which we had absolutely NO tour guide! Total waste of money and extremely misleading with paying extra for services we did not receive!
Response from Host, May 2026
Hi Nicki_L,
Thanks for booking with us.
With the Skip the Line: Vatican & Sistine Chapel Ticket with Audio Guide, our representatives are leading you inside to get your tickets but they are not a guide, as you have only the optional audio guide included.
Also, the skip the line access can still be crowded due to the security checks, unfortunately the Museums are directly responsible for the organization of the line.
I wish you a lovely stay in Rome.
Anonymous, Apr 2026
Make sure to hold the tour accountable for the audio guides. They don’t write it on voucher info and the guide at Vatican didn’t say anything about them which we purchased. We got into Vatican to get audio guides and they said they don’t include them in the ticket we had. The tour then told us after that it’s an app. Paid an extra $40 in Vatican.
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Dear Anonymous,
Thank you for your feedback—we’re sorry for the confusion regarding the audio guide.
We would like to clarify that the booking voucher does include instructions to download the audio guide via an app prior to the tour. We regret that this may have been missed and understand the inconvenience caused.
Your comments are appreciated and will help us improve the clarity of our communication.
Laurie_B, Apr 2026
While the museum and Sistine Chapel were amazing, we found the process getting to the meeting spot to be a difficult one. There were two different meeting spots noted. We arrived at the first one noted - 15 minutes prior to tour time only to find out that that our required paper tickets were a 20 minutes walk away at the second noted spot. We called City Tours for help, and the customer service person was not helpful or understanding, and honestly a bit rude.
That said, if we had fully read the entire notice from City Tours we may have been able to skip the stress - but, it was very confusing in the least. If the app included the actual meeting place (with a link to google maps for directions) as it does for other tours, it would have saved us a great deal of anxiety and walking.
Once we made it to the in person City Tours representatives (sweaty and stressed from running), they were lovely and very helpful.
I’ve learned a valuable lesson!
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Hi Laurie_B,
Thank you for your review.
City Wonders only has one meeting point for our Vatican tours.
Make sure that your review is posted to the correct listing.
I wish you a lovely stay in Rome.
Leo_M, Apr 2026
I had a public transport problem, no refund, no commercial discount nothing, i had to pay 50€ more for the same tickets to just a guy gave me a piece of paper and « go you are free with me » Nothing more.
And of course i found out that the tickets that i’ve brought were 35€ each and i pay more than 100€, everything for than what a shame.
Do not reserve with them, do not have a problem because you will loose 200€
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Dear Leo_M,
Thank you for booking with us.
I would like to express how sorry I am to hear that you missed your original booking.
As your voucher states, "It is the responsibility of all visitors to be at the meeting point 15 minutes before departure. Guests arriving after departure cannot be accommodated & missed tours or tickets cannot be refunded."
Rebooking options are possible depending on tickets availability with a small fee to cover our tour expenses and ticket prices.
Once again, I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, and I appreciate your understanding. I wish you a lovely stay in Rome.
Mara_Z, Apr 2026
Pickup was super clear and easy, and delivered exactly what I was looking for: entry to the Vatican Museums without a tour!
Paul_L, Apr 2026
The visit to the Vatican was relatively straight forward but the audio package was not very good, out of sequence and very limited You would have been better to purchase the audio package from the Vatican itself at 8 Euros, this was far more in depth
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Hi Paul_L,
Thank you for your feedback.
We’re glad to hear that your visit to the Vatican went smoothly overall. We’re sorry, however, that the audio package did not meet your expectations.
Your comments regarding the sequence and level of detail are very helpful, and we will certainly review this with our provider to improve the experience for future visitors.
Louise_O, Mar 2026
Very organised considering how busy it was!
Would definitely recommend this. There wasn't alot of information via the audio so would possibly try a different way next time we had a great time wandering round ourselves
Laurie_C, Mar 2026
I think the guided audio tour was good for a solo traveler, could have had more information/the map could have been easier to follow.
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Dear Laurie_C,
Thank you for your kind feedback. We’re glad to hear that you enjoyed the audio guide and found it helpful for exploring as a solo traveler.
We appreciate your comments regarding the map and additional information. For reference, maps are also included in the voucher via a Google Maps link to help make navigation easier.
Thank you again for sharing your experience, we’re pleased you had a positive visit overall.
Gabriel_R, Mar 2026
We were advertised a guided tour, not just get the tickets, try to understand the app and you are on your own. The app did not work as expected. Somehow I think I should have just done this on my own to save money. Not satisfied, I didn’t see the benefit of doing it with you
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Dear Gabriel_R,
Thank you for your feedback. We would like to clarify that the option selected during your booking on our website was specifically for 'Tickets with Audio Guide,' not a guided group tour.
All instructions regarding the download and use of the audio guide app were clearly outlined in your booking voucher to ensure a smooth experience. We aim to provide all necessary information upfront so our guests know exactly what to expect from their chosen package. We regret that the app did not meet your expectations, but we must emphasize that the service provided strictly matched the option purchased.
David_W, Mar 2026
We picked the earliest time available to avoid the crowds (well, at least to minimize the crowds). I usually self-guide, but this tour was worth the cost because I could skip some of the lines.
Stephen_H, Mar 2026
‘Skip the line’ is NOT a thing. This company presents itself as a way to skip the lines but in fact they form their own lines then send you to the actual line at the appointed time. There is absolutely NO advantage using them. Basically pick anyway to buy your ticket and enjoy the visit. You will still end up in the same queue as EVERYONE else. I did not end up using the ticket… it offered ZERO advantage. I threw it away in disgust.
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Dear Stephen_H,
Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear about your disappointment.
To clarify, “skip-the-line” refers to pre-reserved, timed entry tickets which allow visitors to bypass the main ticket purchase lines. However, all visitors — including those with reserved tickets and guided tours — must still pass through the mandatory security screening at the venue, which can sometimes create queues beyond our control.
Our team organizes groups before entry to ensure tickets are distributed correctly and that everyone enters at the scheduled time slot. While this process can occasionally require a short wait, the intention is to provide smoother access compared to purchasing tickets on the day.
We’re sorry that you chose not to use the ticket and regret that the experience did not meet your expectations.
kimberly_p, Feb 2026
This is a simple 'experience' - all that happens is you meet a person hands you a piece of paper that enables you to skip the line. For us though, it turned into a challenging situation b/c the directions we received included a google map to the wrong location, which we realized in time, but then had to hustle to the correct location, which was hard to find. We did numerous tours on vacation and this was the only one that we had trouble finding the contact person. Directions need to be more clear - other than that, it's fine, you get the paper voucher and you get to go right in at your pre-selected time.
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Dear Kimberly_p,
First of all we would like to thank you for booking with us.
We are sorry to hear the experience didn't meet your expectations.
Please allow me to clarify that instructions on where to meet our staff are clearly written on your voucher, as well as our contact details in case you need assistance, have you contacted us through any of our channels, we would have been more than happy to assist you and provide you guidance.
We hope you consider taking one of our tours so we can provide the experience you deserve.
Jonathan_M, Feb 2026
Unfortunately I cannot give this more stars.
Viator informed me to be in front of the basilica.
I Was there early. Start time had passed and no one was there. I called 3x to let the city wonder team know I was given the wrong information. All 3x the people on the phone were extremely rude to me saying they did give me the right information and informed me I had to go to another point. I then had to run to the starting point which was 15 minutes away from where I was told to go.
Once there the team saw that I was indeed given the wrong information and got me in immediately.
Still shouldn’t be panicking on vacation when I was there early.
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Dear Jonathan_M,
We sincerely apologise on behalf of Viator for the inconvenience and stress this caused during your trip. While we’re glad you were ultimately able to join the tour, we’re truly sorry for the confusion and the hassle you experienced.
Please contact us directly so we can ensure the meeting point information on the voucher has been properly corrected and updated by Viator. Your feedback is very important in helping us prevent this from happening again.
Patti_W, Feb 2026
System booked us for 8am when we chose 2:30pm as there was no 8am and wouldn’t change time or provide refund. Do NOT book this.
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Hi Patti_W,
I am sorry to hear there was an issue with your tour start time.
The time is always selected online and you must confirm it, you also receive the confirmation voucher afterwards that includes it plus the check in time to be at the location.
You can reach out with the booking reference and we can verify at what time your tour was booked.
Jacqueline_P, Feb 2026
Very helpful to have this slip-the-line ticket with a set time to enter. The lines of people waiting to buy tickets were insanely long, so this was definitely worth the purchase!
Jennifer_P, Dec 2025
You do not get tickets upon purchase. We found this out the hard way by showing up at the venue with the “ticket” that was emailed to be turned away and told it was a voucher from a third party vendor. We’d need to contact them for the actual tickets. We only had 15 minutes to find them, pick the actual tickets, and get back in line to enter the coliseum. It was a hunt for a needle in a haystack to find the location to pick up the tickets because “Viator” is comprised of multiple third party vendors. We barely made it in.
You’re better off buying direct from the location you want to see than being jerked around.
