This was a wonderful evening. Harry and Martin did a fantastic job guiding us to various locations to give us the best views of the aurora. We were lucky enough to see a variety of forms of the lights, and we learned lots about the science and cultural history of the aurora. There was a cozy campfire, beautiful nature, hot chocolate and reindeer sausage. Harry also took plenty of beautiful photos for us! We had a great time and I cannot recommend this tour enough!

Absolutely fantastic. It didn't hurt that we had amazing viewing of the northern lights, but Harry, our guide was incredible- super knowledgeable, palpable excitement about the hunt and what we were seeing, walked us through the science of the lights and his process for predicting where to go see them. There were 12 of us in a van for 15 (17 including driver and guide), but we did not feel cramped and it was easy to get in and out. The reindeer sausage, cookies, tea and cocoa were all tasty and appreciated. We experienced some incredible lights and Harry was constantly at the ready to take pro photos of the experience (sent to us that night) so we could concentrate on enjoying the lights rather than fiddling with our cameras. Our tour was listed as 6-8 hours - many others listed were as 6 hour or 6-7 hours. I mention this because a noteworthy moment was close to the six hour mark Harry decided to change locations as our then location was starting to get some clouds - it would have been easy to coast to the six hour point and call it a night, but instead Harry stated we should try another location about 30 minutes away - where we arrived just in time for an incredible "substorm" that floored us all. In my mind it really spoke to their dedication to showing you an incredible experience - no clock watching or cutting corners. Also afterwards everyone was dropped off at their hotels, not just the city center or meeting spot. Simply every element was well done and provided for a great time. Highly recommend!!!!

Phenomenal trip. Max, our guide, and Raphael, our driver, were superb. The remote valley they took us to was the perfect place to watch an incredible light display.

If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Harry and his driver did an amazing job finding the Northern Lights on a night where it wasn’t looking very promising (snowing). Using software developed by a friend of Harry we were able to find the most amazing show. It took a lot of patience but we found it in Finland of all Places! Harry is very passionate about the science behind the Aurora Borealis and explains it in a way that we could understand. He is also an amazing photographer and we were able to enjoy the show while he took the photos. I would recommend this tour to anyone that dreams of seeing the Northern Lights!

Well what can I say! Exceeded my expectations - especially as it was a cloudy day but please don’t let that put you off, as Max - our incredibly passionate and knowledgable guide - knew of a fantastic location where the skies were clear! He knew his stuff! We were in awe of what we saw…truly an incredible experience.

Max was phenomenal! He truly chased the skies to find a gap to see the northern lights. Miracle worker trying to find a gap in the clouds on a night with low solar activity. We managed to see the solar lights in 3 different spots. With different tour guides we had only ever gone to one and waited there for the lights. This was a true chase and Max was amazing! Raphael was an amazing driver which allowed Max to constantly monitor the clouds and solar activity - a true partnership.

If there is no chance of Northern Lights why do you go anyway. I would have liked the option of backing out rather than waste 7 hours in the freezing cold pursuing a fruitless adventure. I suspected from the start that there was no chance from the tone of our guides voice and that she would not look us in the eye. I realize that there is no guarantees but with modern technology available my only guarantee wasting my time so as to fulfill the money taken.

We've done several Northern Lights tours with several different companies and this experience was by far my favorite. The guide, Henry, was very personable, a wealth of knowledge about the aurora, and more than willing to do whatever it took to make our tour exceptional. He took numerous high quality photos throughout the trip and was also more than willing to help people take successful shots of the aurora with their own cameras. The sausages were very good (both vegetarian and reindeer) as were the hot beverages and biscuits for dessert. Little things, like having small stools for everyone around the campfire and having thermal suits and boots at our disposal, made the difference between a good experience and a great one! If you are looking for a great Northern Lights tour, take this one.

Our guide had a clear love of the Aurora and his ability to judge where they would pop up was uncanny!
Things that made this tour stand out:
1) We set off earlier than other tours and in doing so, caught an early display which was the best of the night
2) We were a small group so there was the opportunity to get to know each other
3) We cooked locally produced reindeer sausages over a campfire!
4) our guide was a talented aurora photographer and was able to take great pictures for our group including family pictures
5) We were all dropped at our individual hotels at the end of the night
This was a really well organised and managed trip. We really enjoyed our experience!
Tips: bring foot warming pouches. Layer up! Be prepared to use nature's toilet when you're out in the wild.

Whilst we didn’t get to see any aurora activity, we felt that Max was an excellent guide. He explained the phenomenon of the aurora really well and answered all our technical questions. It was also great to learn about his lifestyle and experiences. He kept us well informed of the plan with an explanation, set up a great campfire with small meal and helped us with our camera settings. The thermal suits worked well - I chose not to use the shoes but definitely should have! The group was also great.

We enjoyed an amazing experience with our fantastic guide Bert and his great driver! Bert is very knowledgeable and exudes so much positive energy!! He went above and beyond to make sure everyone was safe and had a wonderful time. Lady Aurora danced for us and Bert shared his incredible photos. You have a very high recommendation from us!!
Cheers from Kellie and Jan. 3/2/25

I cannot say enough positive about the tour program. They are super organized and run a first class operation. Our guide Hermann and driver Pietre (sp?) were great. Hermann was knowledgeable and worked hard to find us some open sky to see the Northern Lights. We did get a couple of glimpses of them but the weather refused to cooperate. That was dissappointing but it still was a positive experience, and we are now big fans of reindeer sausage.

It really was a great trip. Wear warm clothes and make sure your batteries are charged. The cold drains phone batteries, so having a battery charger helps.

It was a night where the forecast was expected to be good. So we were expecting to be dazzled. Then Mother Nature intervened. We were to be patient. Our guide Antonio was positive and cheerful throughout. We had confidence that he knew what he was doing. The patience and his spotting skills were so good. We saw mother nature’s dazzling light show. It was spectacular! Antonio made the whole evening such a memorable adventure.
My only less than positive comment was that the camp fire wasn’t open and big enough to keep us warm around it and unlike the next day when we went on another tour, the snacks were not as good. The other one gave us sausages to grill over the fire (real camping feel) whilst we had soup in a pack on this one.
Overall still recommended highly because of Antonio and his energy and enthusiasm!

We knew going in that we may not see the lights but the van for people who have a bad back was the worse because it was so hard and didn’t recline. We would rather of paid double the price and had a comfortable experience and better food. It was thoroughly disappointing the entire experience from beginning to end. The real organization when the turned up to the meeting point “Magic Ice Bar, I will not have any fond memories of this trip with my family unfortunately. We spent a fortune getting to Tromso and staying in Tromso and the tour we ultimately booked was not what we expected. I only wish now I had done a private tour with a comfort van. I give this experience with Viator a 4/10.

No aurora, but an adventure through a snowstorm. Would have been great to see the aurora again, but maybe next time.
lejohnny_a, Dec 2024
Tour started with an on-time pickup from the departure location. We rode for about 1 hour before locating a spot with clear skies. There, our tour guide gave us thermal suits, individual pictures, camp fire, and roasted some reindeer and veggie sausage. The pictures were beautiful that the photographer took. Overall 5-star experience.

Brilliant trip: Dominic was a terrific driver in very challenging conditions; Herman was so passionate and knowledgeable about the Northern Light and determined to give us a great experience! He found two spots where we enjoyed the most amazing light show would highly recommend.

We had the most magical experience on our Northern Lights tour. We couldn’t have lucked out with a better tour guide. Harry was so amazing is every way possible. He was extremely knowledgeable about the science about the lights and taught us so much. He set realistic expectations but was vigilantly working the whole time to find the best area to take us. We ultimately decided on a spot that was not too far from the Finland border. It could not have been more picturesque. We were surrounded by by mountains and a lake which set the scene. And after a short time of waiting the sky came alive. We got the show of a lifetime. The lights came out strong and danced for hours. Every time we thought it was over they would come back. Harry is also an amazing photographer and captured so many great pictures of us and the lights. We had a great campfire that Harry and out excellent driver Sebastian put together. We got to drink hot chocolate and try reindeer sausage. Overall, I can’t say anything negative about this experience, and would recommend it to anybody who asks. 10 out of 10 in my opinion.

A great tour though we weren’t lucky enough to see the lights as was too cloudy. Max did everything he could to get us to a good spot but sadly couldn’t control the weather. He was in constant touch with other guides to understand the changing conditions to give us the best chance of seeing them and was incredibly knowledgeable. The reindeer hot dogs were really yummy as was the hot choc and tea. Would def recommend but try to book on a clear night. Max explains Ed you need to be able to see the. Eaters on the moon and the starts to be in with a chance of seeing the lights.

Let me first start by saying, that I'm a bit of a veteran of Northern Lights tours ;) with 6 tours made so far, all of them were unsuccessful, before we went on this tour with Northern Horizon, and Max as a guide, and Sebastian as driver.
And now I can understand why it was finally successful - it's the people behind the tour, their professionalism and know-how.
I was always sitting in front seats in the buses, while taking these tours, so I always have a good view on what's going on in front and at the guide, but it was the first time, that I saw the guide CONSTANTLY working while driving - he was always on the weather forecasts, cloud coverage updates, contact with other guides etc. I believe, that it was Max dedication and preparation, that made the trip successful.
Because of weather conditions in Norway, we had to drive to Finland, about 2,5 hours, and the spot Max chose was beautiful - with a lake, little red huts, and great view on the sky. But it wasn't great when we arrived - it was almost completely covered in clouds, but we trusted Max, the forecasts he analyzed and his experience, and guess what, after an hour, the sky cleared almost completely and a breathtaking aurora has appeared!
When it started dancing in the sky, I almost cried with happiness :) Especially because it was my birthday, so it was the best gift I could imagine.
The practical side of the trip was also very well organized, we were provided with thermal suits, which isolated us from the cold very well. Please remember when booking, that nowadays the tours need to go quite often to Finland or Sweden in search of clear skies, and there it gets much, much colder than it is in Tromso at the same time, so despite the thermal suits, dress much warmer than you would do in Tromso.
The campfire was great, we were also served sausages to cook ourselves in fire (reindeer meat, everybody actually loved it), but there were also vegan options available.
The driver Sebastian, apart from being a very safe driver, which is super important in arctic conditions, was also very helpful to people, helping with campfire, finding the right sizes of the thermal suit etc.
Max has also explained the natural phenomena of Aurora Borealis in very much detail and was able to answer any question we had - you can see that he is truly fascinated in the topic.
The beautiful pictures were an added bonus - absolutely beautiful and were delivered to us extremely fast - even before we woke up the next day!
Overall, an unforgettable experience, thank you Northern Horizon, Thank you Max and Sebastian, for making it finally possible for me to make this big, big dream come true. I will never forget this night.

Herman was just the most knowledgeable guide. He took time to temper expectations about seeing the lights, explaining all the factors required to see the lights. Due to coastal clouds we travelled 2 hours towards to Finnish border for clear skies and were not disappointed. We saw 2 fabulous rounds of lights. While waiting they set up a camp fire and sausages (veggie options also) with potato flat breads. A wonderful experience!
scott_s, Nov 2024
Our guide Herman was awesome. It was snowing and we thought our tour was gonna be a bust, but it ended up turning out to be awesome. We had an awesome time and saw amazing lights.

Could not recommend this company more. Harry (our tour guide) and Dominic (our driver) were soo professional. From pick up to drop off - this adventure was a dream come true.
Gerard_P, Sep 2024
We caught a spectacular aurora with very an intense light spectrum and I have to give credit to Harry for making the decision to change locations and head inland further to a very clear sky on a stormy night. We saw a show that I will never forget. Thank you Harry and our driver Dominic for keeping us safe on a rather rainy and snowy night.
Tom_L, Mar 2024
The lights were not what I expected to the naked eye but were amazing when looking at them through a camera
Grace_B, Mar 2024
Really amazing tour that led us all the way to Finland! The weather in Tromso was rainy and hazy, but our guide Max told us to have patience. We drove almost 3 hours into Finland and stopped and saw a beautiful aurora display. Highly recommend this company — their staff is knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and loves the lights just as much (if not more) than the tourists.
Viswanathan_N, Mar 2024
Max & Andre did their best to ensure we experienced the magical Northern Lights!! We had to wait till 1am in the morning to see the Aurora. Max explained the science behind the aurora and we thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
Manisha_M, Feb 2024
Such a great experience! The tour guides worked hard to get us a good spot for us to camp out and watch the Northern Lights. Harry took several pictures of us and ensured we were happy with the shots. He even educated some people on capturing good pictures of the aurora. We had a nice bonfire with reindeer sausage (vegetarian options available), cookies, hot chocolate, and tea. I realized I did not wear the proper pants for the trip, so they gave me a thermal suit. Harry also sent us all a Dropbox of the pictures for us to select and save onto our own files only a few hours after the trip. I highly recommend this tour!
Camille_F, Jan 2024
Our guide and driver (Harry and Michael) were the most devoted, determined and caring hosts possible. The weather conditions were against us but it didn’t stop them from taking us all the way to Finland to catch some auroras. Harry shared great anecdotes and scientific facts about northern lights, and after getting pictures taken and spotting some auroras, they built a fire for us to enjoy a light meal. All in all, worth every penny.
