Brilliant trip, guides were fantastic, really keen to find the NL. They were really knowledgeable and helpful. Coach was clean and warm(very important when it’s -15 degrees). Snacks and drinks provided were ok but I would say eat before going. On time and enjoyable. The guides were very good and took some great photos which are also included. Definitely recommend this tour.

The guides were well informed, sincere and helpful. We stopped at 3 different spots during our tour to observe the auroras. They gave us hot drinks and made a campfire. We cooked hot dogs on the fire. The auroras were magnificent. I think we were really lucky that day. One of the best experiences I've had for sure.

It was a wonderful experience with Hello Tromsø tour. From the weather we were lucky on that day the sky was clear and the chance to see the aurora was high. We went to several places and had seen the beautiful aurora. It danced and showing different forms with green and violet colors. We concluded the second stop with drinking hot chocolate and bread sausages. It was a beautiful night experience. Thank you for the two tour guides from Hello Tromsø who guide us in the whole journey. The company really provide customer satisfaction with their experience and knowledge.

They should be aware that they have to respect the natural surroundings and also that the northern lights are an exhilarating experience of nature's creation and has to be seen in real to admire its sheer beauty.

Thanks for your review. We’re glad to hear you found the tour good. That said, a 3-star rating usually reflects a below-average experience, which doesn’t quite match your comment. At Hello Tromsø, we work hard to deliver high-quality Arctic experiences for our guests.

    Hard trip

    Cynthia_T, Apr 2026
There were two guides with us on this coach trip to search for the Northern Lights. On the way, we were kept informed about how much further we would have to go to see the Lights, which ended up being across the Finnish border. Whether that location was planned originally was hard to say. Other tour buses were there when we arrived. Kudos to the intrepid bus driver who made it through blizzard conditions, without going off the road as at least 3 other vehicles did. Our biggest complaint was a failure to communicate on the part of the guides. On our arrival, apparently fire pits were set ablaze and my husband mentioned that we could get warm. When I went back behind the bus, I discovered that there was also a table set up with hot chocolate mix and cookies, which my husband had not seen. After seeing the Lights, we returned to the bus. Some minutes passed and then, the other guide came on the bus to announce the last call for hot dogs. That was the first we heard of any other food being served. We returned to the ship close to 3:00 a.m. after setting out at 6:00p.m. The second guide was very enthusiastic but very hard to understand. We did at least see the Northern Lights as white streaks in the sky.

    Response from Host, Apr 2026

Thank you for joining our Northern Lights tour and for your kind words about our driver and guide, especially considering the difficult blizzard conditions that evening. Our guides always inform guests about refreshments available at the location, including hot chocolate, cookies and hot dogs, and these are announced during the stop. However, we understand that in dark winter conditions and while focusing on the aurora it can sometimes be easy to miss announcements. We're glad you were able to experience the Northern Lights and appreciate you traveling with us.

    Looking for Aurora, still……

    Jerry_D, Mar 2026
The guides were great (Nicolai and Vivian), unfortunately we only saw a sliver of northern lights for a few seconds. They tried and we still had a really good time

    Perfect experience!

Very good nus, very good and very friendly guides!! We got very good pictures afterwards from the guide, also from ourselves with the Northern lights!

    Dedicated tour guides

    Janet_F, Mar 2026
There was a snow storm in Tromso so we headed north to get out of it. The guides let us know that we might have to go as far as Finland to see them, but their goal was not too keep us out too late. We ended up going to Finland as the snow didn’t stop in Norway! It was worth it; the skies opened up for us and the time was of no consequence.

    I strongly recommend

The experience was fantastic and the staff is extremelly kind. My husband and I had a great tour (and great pics).

    Guideless tour.

    Ben_C, Mar 2026
We didn’t get to see the lights. That’s ok, I know that they can’t control the weather. But the guide didn’t speak for more than 20 minutes the entire 6 hours. They turned around somewhat early due to the poor weather but mentioned many times how the arctic weather changes rapidly. It didn’t feel like there was any effort put forward. The 6 hour bus ride was filled with silence interrupted only occasionally by an announcement about poor weather and a single song to be played every 15 minutes. The guides were kind, but didn’t seem to know what they were doing and failed to do anything you would expect from a guide. I explained this to them afterwards asking for a refund (not due to the failure to see the lights) and Viator would not help due to the host denying it. I would not do this tour again, even at a discounted rate.

    Response from Host, Mar 2026

We need to clarify several points, as your description does not reflect how the tour was conducted. Our guides were actively working throughout the entire trip — continuously checking weather systems, monitoring solar activity, and communicating with other professional guides across the region. On this particular night, solar activity was extremely low everywhere, meaning that even in clearer areas there was no realistic chance of seeing the aurora. The decision to return was made around 22:30 only after verifying all forecasts and confirming conditions across multiple locations. This is a professional and responsible call. The team remained alert on the return journey and would have stopped immediately if any activity appeared. There were two guides on the bus, both experienced and engaged with guests during the tour. The claim that there was almost no communication for six hours is simply not consistent with how the tour operates or with feedback from other participants. Our guides did exactly what they are trained and expected to do: assess conditions in real time and make decisions based on safety and realistic viewing opportunities. They did not “fail” in any aspect of their role. Northern Lights tours depend entirely on natural conditions, including solar activity, which cannot be influenced or predicted with certainty.

    Amazing views

    Margarita_F, Mar 2026
We were very lucky to have clear skies and th northern lights showed up early (7-9pm) and left by the time our hands and feet started getting too cold. We had the whole campfire experience with hot chocolate, sausages over a bonfire and amazing pictures from the tour. There were some hiccups with the bus towards the end but it was handled well by Isabel, Dak and our driver

The experience of a lifetime! This team knew what they were doing! All four people in our group agreed. Wonderful, knowledgeable and the best experience out of the four nights we searched for the Northern Lights.

    Flor_F, Mar 2026
Very good service. Knowledgable , helpful and friendly guides. They tried very hard to take us where there was a possibility of seeing the NORTHERN lights, despise the fact that the weather wasn’t good at all, and we did see them. Unforgettable experience.

    Good experience

    Semmm_M, Mar 2026
Even though the northern lights were weak and the weather was quite cloudy, they took us quite far from the city to find a better spot. They really made an effort to help us get a good angle and take photos, and in the end we managed to get some nice pictures. However, just as the lights started to become stronger, we began the return trip and drove back to Tromsø without stopping. Interestingly, the northern lights were still visible on the way back, and short stops along the way could have made the experience even better. There was also a bit of disorganization during the photo sessions, snacks, and the distribution of thermal clothing. Despite that, it was still a nice experience overall; our guides felt both experienced and sincere.

Fantastic experience. Great guides and driver. We travelled a long way but got an amazing view of the Northern lights. I really recommend Hello Troso.

Nice Evening Out Despite No Aurora

We unfortunately didn’t get to see the Northern Lights, but the tour still ran exactly as scheduled and the coach was comfortable. The campfire stop was really nice — we had hotdogs, hot drinks, and toasted marshmallows, which made for a cosy and enjoyable experience despite the lights not appearing.

Perfect tour for the money. Bus was nice and warm and could go back onto it if you got cold. We saw the northern lights in all its glory and the guides took high quality photos during this time.

    Good experience

    Meenal_S, Mar 2026
It was more cloudy that night. The tour operator took all efforts to take us out of the city lights and we could eventually see some northern lights. The vehicle was in good condition with restroom.

Patience and a bit of luck is required, but it's worth the wait when you see the Northern Lights. The tour guides are very knowledgeable and provide valuable information along the journey up North. Thoroughly recommend doing this tour, even though it's quite long

    Seeing the aura

The tour operators were great. We enjoyed this tour and saw the aurora. Dress warmly for this tour as it can be very cold. We were surprised with a snack of hot chocolate and sausage.

Overpriced boiling bus tour of icy highways--no Northern Lights

    Layla_D, Feb 2026
Absolutely the WORST tour I have ever booked. Boring, cold "tour" guides told us as soon as we boarded the overpacked(60+ passengers, boiling hot bus) that we wouldn't see the Northern Lights(we didn't). They kept repeating that message over and over again. Drove around aimlessly with no organization or plan for 8+ hours. No photos provided and "snacks" for about 16 people(they ran out of cups almost immediately). No arctic gear provided although I saw people on other tours with Arctic gear on. Avoid this at all costs--an overpriced, overcrowded, overheated bus with tour guides who were bored and boring. One tiny bathroom for 60+ to share. Tour guides were repeatedly told to turn down heat--ignored requests. The tour guides were too busy taking photos for themselves of cloudy night sky to engage passengers, and when they did their limited information and negative attitudes ruined even the quiet silence of the bus. (One tour guide said it was only the 2nd time he hadn't seen the Northern Lights--"bad luck"--which wasn't what passengers wanted to hear after 8+ hours driving around aimlessly). Bus driver ran out of Adblue for the bus and didn't know how to refill it as we sat at a gas station at midnight watching him struggle. Tour guides went inside station, bought sandwiches for themselves, and chatted. As passengers finally exited the bus in Tromso, a little girl and her mother on the tour slipped and fell on the ice--the "guides" just stood there and stared, offering no assistance. Awful-- I can't repeat how much you should avoid this tour and this tour company. There is no guarantee to see the Northern Lights, but at least the tour you are on should be well-organized with pleasant guides who will make it a good experience--this tour and its guides did the exact opposite.

    Response from Host, Feb 2026

Several of the statements in this review do not reflect what actually occurred on this tour. • Capacity: The bus used for this tour seats 52 passengers. It cannot accommodate “60+”, and capacity is never exceeded. • Snacks and drinks: Supplies are loaded for all guests. No shortages were reported by the guides or by any other passengers. • Temperature: The heating system is kept within standard comfort levels for winter conditions. With many people on board, individual temperature preferences naturally vary. • Thermal suits: Thermal suits are available on request. The guide offered them to several guests that evening, and all declined. • Guiding and engagement: The guide spent the evening speaking with guests and monitoring the sky. Occasional test photos are standard practice to check for aurora activity and are not personal photography. • Route and planning: The group stopped in clear skies near Øverbygd, which was the best available location that night. No operator in Tromsø saw the Northern Lights that evening simply because the aurora did not appear — it is a natural phenomenon that cannot be guaranteed. • AdBlue stop: A brief stop was made to refill AdBlue, which is routine for long winter drives. Guests used the restroom and purchased snacks during this time. • Incident with a child: Neither guide witnessed anyone falling, and no such incident was reported by guests during or after the tour. This tour is also one of the most affordable Northern Lights tours in Tromsø, and pricing is clearly displayed before booking. A refund request was submitted after the tour and reviewed thoroughly. Based on the guide’s report and the feedback from other guests, there were no grounds for a refund. The claims made in this review appeared only after the refund was declined. This review does not reflect the actual events of the evening or the experience of the rest of the group.
