Scuola di Cucina di Lella is a gem!!! From the moment we walked in the door we felt right at home. We were welcomed into this beautiful kitchen by Giulia and chef Francesco with open arms.
They explained all that we will be making that evening and we eagerly got right into it.
We made Pici (pasta), La Pappa col Pomodoro (soup), Chicken Escalopes, roasted potatoes, and Panna Cotta which all were mouthwatering .... even right now just thinking about them.
The step-by-step process was so much fun because they made it fun. Asking for voluntaries I was able to get my mind, body and soul into knowing that we can create anything if you give yourself the space to do so.
I was able to share the kitchen with chef Francesco and had so much fun because he made it fun and inviting for all to partake in.
Once we got back home to the states my husband and I recreated this meal only 4 days after this class (which was recommended by Giulia after our meal) and had a blast doing so. The Pici is a work in process and will not give up in trying to create this very yummy pasta. The rest of the dishes came out perfectly!!
This was our first cooking class ever and now that the bar has been set extremely high it will be difficult to compare others to it because of how perfect everything was.
Thank you for making the end of our Italy Tuscany journey a special one to remember!! Ciao!!

This was a wonderful cooking class, and one of our best meals in Italy, even though we helped make it! We can't wait to make the recipes again at home.

This was a great cooking class. The teacher and English translator were friendly, knowledgeable and made it interesting and it was hands on. We loved every minute of the experience

The instructor Francesco gave a lively and informative class on Tuscan cooking. Our main hands-on activity was making pasta by hand, as well as chopping herbs to use in various dishes. We made a famous Tuscan vegetarian soup, pasta with tomato sauce, roasted potatoes and chicken scaloppini with a panacotta for dessert. Afterwards we aere the meal prepared with our fellow students. It would have been nice to do more of the food preparation ourselves, but the chef was very informative and gave plenty of hints along with the recipes for some authentic Tuscan dishes.

I have done this class several times. When friends come into Siena, I take them there. It is fun, and the food is wonderful. I love the staff there. They are well prepared and it is a great experience.

This class was well worth the cost - a full meal that was made with simple ingredients yet tasted like the most delicious gourmet meal you have ever tasted and I am an experienced gourmet chef. Great instruction and a very authentic experience.

The cooking class is amazing! The chef did an outstanding job of explaining the ingredients and process and demonstrated everything very clearly. Everyone in the class got involved and participated in preparing the meal!

What an incredible cooking class- first in Italian, then English with lots of group participation. And don’t forget the delicious food!!

We participated in some cooking activities but the instructors did most of the cooking and meal preparation to allow us to complete the meal in time. They provided written recipes and pens to take notes. The final meal was excellent.

My fiancé and l had the most incredible experience at this Tuscan cooking class. From the moment we arrived, Francesco and Giulia made us feel completely welcome. They are not only warm and kind hosts, but also so knowledgeable about the traditions and techniques behind Tuscan cuisine. Every step of the class was hands-on, fun, and full of little tips we’ll definitely take home with us.
The dishes we prepared together turned out to be the best food we had during our entire stay in Siena—fresh, flavorful, and made with precision. Sharing the meal at the end with the other couple in the class felt like dining with friends rather than in a class. We left with full hearts (and full stomachs!) and cannot wait to recreate these recipes in our own kitchen.
If you’re in Siena, this is an absolute must-do experience.

Great fun using cooking class recipes, hands on and a great meal at the end. Would recommend to lovers of fine food

I was so excited to take a cooking class as I am a self-taught cook and wanted to learn more about the art of Tuscan cuisine. However, I honestly was disappointed. The class was in English, which was very helpful when learning the various dishes and techniques. The recipes that were given to take home were extremely parsed down, which meant I needed to take notes. Taking notes was no problem, but I felt like the instructor moved pretty quickly and didn’t allow enough time for notes. Being a novice cook, I had questions throughout the class but the teacher didn’t respond kindly to the questions and either had an air of shock or condescension that I would ask such questions. I also felt singled out by the instructor during the class and almost everything I did was incorrect or needed to be fixed, except for stirring the pot. I came away from the class dispirited. I think this class or at least the instructor for the class is better suited for professional chefs who have the refined skills the instructor is looking for.

Excellent chef and helper. Our experience was helpful. All was delicious and easy to understand. Highly professional and talented. Made us feel comfortable.

I have had cooking classes on several international trips to include a previous to Italy and trips to Morocco and Spain. All were great experiences but this was hands down the best. The food was great but the multi-lingual aspect along with cultural insights made it truly memorable.

This was a purely wonderful experience! Chef Francesco was clearly knowledgeable but explained each step of our four-course meal in ways that a cook of any level would understand and be comfortable to do in their own kitchen. He spoke in Italian most of the time to give us the full immersive experience but the lovely interpreter (whose name I can’t recall) ensured that we understood every word - and every technique.
I consider myself a very good cook (I own a small business where I cook for customers) but I picked up so many tips on how to improve what I offer my family, friends, and customers.
The food we helped make was absolutely delicious - bread soup, hand-rolled pici (yeah that took some practice!), porchetta, and pane cotta. It was great to enjoy it with our classmates and a few bottles of their house wine! I don’t think four hours has ever passed so quickly!

Fun interactive experience. They explained and taught each step with explanations on the process and why it was used or effect on the food. Plus a fabulous meal. Very friendly and comfortable.

Very good instructions, lots of fun, prepared 4 dishes. Delicious! Francesco was very informative and patient.

This was a wonderful way to spend an evening. We learned how to make a very simple but delicious Tuscan dinner, using easily accessible ingredients available at any grocery store. I’m a pretty experienced cook, but picked up a few tips, and my 16 year old son learned a lot. Our hosts were warm and funny, and happy to answer any questions.

Lively and knowledgeable chef and translator. The class was fun, informative, engaging, yummy, and one of the absolute highlights of our trip.

Such a fun experience! My wife and I really enjoyed ourselves. The group of people we were with were very friendly and we all were the best of friends at the end of the evening.
jwuensche, May 2025
Good size class and nice facilities. There was not enough hands on for the class. The hosts did most of the work. It was more of a cooking demonstration and lecture (in two languages) and not necessary. Was to have been in English. Should have let us know that aprons were available for purchase. This class should not have take. Over 4 hours
Daniel_K, May 2025
We all enjoyed the class and entire evening. This is a great activity for friends and family to do together.
Sandra_S, May 2025
This was so much fun! Loved every minute, except for making the pasta. Very difficult! 😜all the participants were a joy.
Trish_T, Apr 2025
Wonderful cooking class. Francesco demonstrated then had us participate making each course. Julie was very gracious host/interpreter. Food was amazing. Highly recommend.
Sherry_B, Apr 2025
Don’t arrive hungry because you really do prepare food for about three hours before dinner is ready to eat, but this experience is spectacular! Francesco, the chef was very informative and also entertaining. The only other couple booked that night was a no show, so we had a private lesson. It was great fun for my husband & I, our son and his new wife, and our oldest friends, who have been married for 45 years the same as us! The 4 courses we prepared were delicious, and wine was included with dinner! Don’t hesitate to book this activity. It will be one of your favorite memories from Siena!

We enjoyed the experience. The local chef and the English-speaking instructor were very informative and a joy to be around. We had a lot of fun learning about local Sienese cuisine with other travelers from the UK and North America and dining with them afterward. The food tasted wonderful. Highly recommend the experience if one wants to learn more about the local foods.
Anshuman_G, Mar 2025
Tomatoes were canned resulting in acid reflux, ingredients not fresh as expected in Italy, wine was poor quality
Response from Host, Mar 2025
We're sorry for you to be in the less than 1% of people that didn't like our cooking class.
But that doesn't give you the right to offend our american guests calling them "ignorant", mr. Anshuman Ganguli.
Hope to see you again. Namaste

Great learning experience coupled with fun and great food! We learned how to make an authentic Tuscan 4 course meal. Would definitely recommend if your schedule permits.

We absolutely loved this authentic Tuscany cooking class. The chef was fantastic and the food that we ate at the end of the class outstanding.

This fun, informative class was a trip highlight. We had excellent instructors who showed us how to make Tuscan soup, pick with h an easy and delicious sauce, meat w/shallots, and almond Christmas cookies. Recipes are easy enough to make at home, with simple ingredients. Thanks for a wonderful evening!
