This was a really worthwhile and interesting experience, very glad we booked for it. This was a great tour. Oreste has a lot of knowledge about archeology. This tour company has access to keys to closed building that you wouldn’t be able to access by yourself, so it is really different from all tours that can be proposed by other agencies! I highly recommend it!
Especially in hot season, this tour can also be “refreshing”!

3 hours of unexpected places! Especially great with the time change so we were in nighttime with a perfect group of 6. Lots of WOW moments. Catacombs, ruins, lava tubes... Oh my!!

So very interesting to see the catacombs and lava caves that have been uncovered and discovered in Catania. The tour gave 5 different types of underground experiences starting with a system of Roman saunas and baths under the Duomo. We then went to a restaurant where there was a spectacular underground basalt grotto and then to thermal baths. The final visit was to a little church celebrating St. Agatha created in a grotto. The guide was absolutely fabulous and the tour was truly memorable.

This tour exceeded our expectations. We learned so much about the history of Sicily and Mt Aetna. Mathilde answered all of our questions. The places we saw were so interesting and unusual. I highly recommend it. Especially if you don’t have the time or energy to go up to volcano. You won’t feel like you missed so much.

This was a very interesting tour and we got to see parts of Catania that we would never have found ourselves! Matilde was a very knowledgeable guide and gave us a great overview of the evolution of Catania over past centuries. She gave lots of tips as we travelled around to the various sites, and gave us some interesting personal perspectives on life in Catania. As it was a hot day we really appreciated the drink stop at the end to try a couple of local drinks!
We did feel however that at times the tour was a little slow, so it could have been speeded up a bit.
The other comment related to it being marketed on Viatour as a ‘private’ tour - which was not! It was relatively expensive - so not such great value given that there were seven of us from three different parties. It should be marketed as a ‘small group tour’!
Also when I booked it was not apparent that it was GBP not AUD - so this made it an even more expensive exercise - very annoying Viatour!

Our Guide, Oreste, was very friendly, informative and showed us "objects / places" we never would have found on our own. He was ok with us asking questions on history, etc.

Our family thoroughly enjoyed the Underground Catania tour. It was wonderful to have a break from the heat and each of the sites were unique. The entire tour was informative as well as memorable! With each stop on the tour, another chapter unfolded in the history of late 17th century Sicily when these underground places were created by a volcanic eruption and an earthquake. Matilda was well informed on the time period and delighted in sharing that history with others. A wonderful way to spend an afternoon!
