Rafael was our guide and was amazing!!! He was kind, informative, and funny. Basically, everything you want in a guide! Definitely try to book a tour with him if you can!! Even with other guides in the same area, he showed us things that the other guides clearly didn't want to be bothered with. He went 100% above and beyond and I will always remember this tour! :)

Shannon_S, Jul 2025
Bottom line, book from a better company! But, if you enjoy being bitten by ants on the tour bus and getting dirty water dumped on your head from the bus air conditioner, this tour could be for you!! And, if you like dealing with a company that doesn't stand behind their product, this is especially the one to choose!! FACTS: -We booked this tour because we liked the 5 hour time frame as we weren't looking for an all day excursion. Well, SURPRISE, it actually took 7 1/2 hours!! So, be warned that you will not be back on time. - Bus did not leave on time - First stop was at a smoothie shop, La Frutera, for a bathroom break and purchases. This was not on the itinerary and took quite a long time since other tour buses were also there and it's a pretty small place. The smoothie was tasty. - Drove to the rainforest to walk to the river. Did not see a single insect, bird, or animal. -Swimming in the river was refreshing after the walk. Bring a towel! - Made our way back to the bus to drive to the tower. -On the bus, we realized we were being bitten by little ants on the seats. At least 6 of us were bitten, maybe more. - At the tower stop I spent the whole time picking little ants off the towel I was sitting on and removing them from my beach bag that I had left on the bus. To be clear, I did NOT have any food in the bag that could have attracted them. The guide did spray the bus with bug spray at this point but it was too late. - After the tower, we were supposed to stop for 20 minutes at the waterfall, the whole reason I booked this tour. We only did a 1 minute drive by and had to take a picture FROM THE BUS. Ridiculous. -The drive to Luquillo beach was very uncomfortable because you could still feel some ants on the bus. -Also, on the drive to the beach, the bus took a turn and a bucket of water dumped on my friend's head because she was sitting in the back close to the air conditioner. She was totally soaked. We have photo proof. -Luquillo beach was fine. At this point our moods were already shaky from the ants/water incident. We had a nice lunch there. The beach itself was very crowded- it was a Sunday. - We were thankfully picked up in a different bus. We arrived back at 4:30. It was supposed to end at 2pm. - Our tour guide, Angel, was very nice and none of this was his fault. - We reached out to the company after the tour to give them a chance to makes things right. They were condescending and did not offer any compensation.

Response from Host, Jul 2025

We’re sorry to hear this guest left feeling disappointed, as we always strive to provide a smooth and enjoyable experience. For future travelers, here’s some clarity on what to expect with this tour: Tour Schedule: The rainforest and beach tour runs from 9:00 AM (pickup) to about 4:00 PM (drop-off), which is the schedule published in our itinerary. We give courtesy reminder calls at 8:00 AM and allow a short grace period so no one is left behind. Bathroom Stop: We do not stop at La Frutera or any other restroom unless a guest cannot wait to reach the forest bathrooms. These are shared tours, so we accommodate group needs when someone requests a stop. Guests who choose to grab smoothies during these brief breaks may experience slight delays. Wildlife & Route Adjustments: El Yunque’s trails are popular, with over two million visitors yearly, so wildlife sightings are not guaranteed. We sometimes switch the order of stops (tower vs. river first) to avoid crowds or special events. Ants on the Bus: Eating or bringing food onboard is prohibited, as food can attract ants. Our guides keep buses clean, and in rare cases where ants appear, they act immediately—as they did by spraying and cleaning during this tour. Air Conditioning Drip: There are no buckets of water in our buses. What occurred was condensation from the air-conditioning system on a humid day. While rare, guests can move seats if they feel a drip. La Coca Falls: This stop is always for photos only, as swimming isn’t allowed. On this day, parking construction required us to view the falls from the road for safety. Luquillo Beach Crowds: As a popular public beach, weekends can be busy. Travelers seeking quieter visits may prefer weekday tours. Guest Comfort: After the condensation and ant concerns, we arranged for a different bus for the return trip to ensure a more comfortable ride. While we regret this guest’s experience didn’t meet their expectations, our guide and team worked to deliver the promised itinerary and address concerns on the spot. We’ll continue improving to provide safe and memorable experiences for all our guests. — Puerto Rico Access Tours LLC

Fun and interesting excursion from San Juan

Cynthia_D, Dec 2024
There are so many El Yunque tours to choose from. I selected this one for a few main reasons: 1) Pick-up at my hotel, 2) Great price, 3) Variety of things to do and see, and 4) I didn't want to spend 8-10 hours. This tour delivered! We saw waterfalls and climbed one of the towers. The hike was about a half mile each way and not difficult. We cooled off in a swimming area of the river for about 30 minutes which was plenty. No natural water slide, but I knew that in advance and was fine with it. Then we got to experience Luquillo kiosks and beach. Excellent mofongo at Rellena'o! We drove in a modern, air conditioned van. The guides (Rafael and Edwin?) were pleasant and knowledgeable. It was the perfect day!

Awesome!!! @_FreestyleNature

Antrees_R, Aug 2024
Have done this twice and will surely do it again!! Every part of the tour is amazing. Also there is lots of great food at the Luquillo Beach stop. I will be creating my vlog on this

Great experience!

Andrew_P, Nov 2023
Rafael was great!. Knowledgable, accommodating, and funny. The walk down to the river was not difficult and swimming was enjoyable. The waterfalls were pretty and the tower gave great views. The food at the kiosks was great. The beach was small and not as pretty as we hoped, but the water was refreshing!

Rafael is the ultimate guide!

Nice Tour

Jeffrey_L, Aug 2022
The tour was great, the hike was good, not too much of a hike down to the river. The river was my favorite part of the tour. The water felt amazing.

Tour Rep was terrific. I...

THOMAS_V, Aug 2022
Tour Rep was terrific. I appreciate his enthusiasm, made the tour fun. Unfortunately, beach part was acceptable. Just a bit dirty

Amazing Day!

Adam_T, Aug 2022
This tour is perfect for people who want to experience the rainforest, see the major landmarks, and learn about the country, but are not looking for long, difficult hikes through dense forest. Our tour guide and driver were amazing! We learned so much about the area and Puerto Rico in general. The swim at the river was very refreshing and relaxing. The kioskos at the beach had delicious and inexpensive food. The beach itself was nice. It is one of the most popular beaches in all Puerto Rico so you will be around tons of other people and families having fun.

Real Nice!!

Stacy_S, May 2022
Our tour guide (Jerry) gave us a lot of info. He was very nice!! It’s about a half mile walk to the river. So pretty! It’s hot so be prepared to sweat!!

Andrea is the best tour guide

Erick_V, May 2022
Andrea the tour guide is amazing! Choose her if you can while booking! The swimming in Angelito trails is incredible. I was not big fan of the beach but the rest of the tour was awesome

Great Experience! Simple and Easy!

TaraHildreth, Apr 2022
Our guide, Raphael, was wonderful. He was friendly and informative. He made sure to connect with all members of the trip making sure everyone felt comfortable and part of the group. I would highly recommend this tour for people looking for a laid back, no pressure, short excursion. It was simple and easy.

Hidden tropical paradise in Puerto Rico

Audra_R, Sep 2021
Jerry, our tour guide, was wonderful. He stopped at a roadside stand on the way to El Yunque and I had the best mango smoothie and a delicious pepperoni empanada (I know that's not the right name but I can't remember it). Then we river nature walk which was only about ten minutes, so if you are worried about not being able to handle it..you totally can. Jerry told us about different plant life there --he's so knowledgeable-- and the tour ended at the beach area. He helped us face our fears and jump from the tier. He was very encouraging and jumped first to show us how to do it. If that wasn't enough, he dropped us off at beautiful Luquillo Beach where there were lots of souvenir shops and restaurants. I had this delicious lobster rice and fried plantains. When he picked us back up fro..that, he told us more about the area as he dropped us back to pur hotel. My daughter and I had a GREAT time. Jerry is friendly, funny, and professional. Highly recommend this experience!!!!

Nice but short

Tiffany, Aug 2021
It was shorter than expected. More time in the forest and less at the river or more time at the beach would be better.

a bit too short !

Jay, Jul 2021
I felt like the actual trip was too short the “walk to the river was about 10 mn long I was expecting a little more than that. My favorite part was the beach but unfortunately we were only there for 1hrs. It took us about 20-30 mn to get some chairs.. overall trip was OK but definitely not what I was expecting PS Food was delicious !!

Good Times

Chris_W, Jul 2021
We had a really good time with Raphael and Louie! Low impact hike in Forrest to a beautiful riverside.

Great experience

Miya_G, Jul 2021
It was so much fun jumping in the river and Luquillo beach was beautiful. Food was great as well. Tour guide was great.

Had a great time !

Jocelyn_C, Jul 2021
Our tour guide was great!. He made us feel so comfortable and made us laugh. He also was very knowledgeable about the history of PR and the rainforest. Loved the river and the beach !

Amazing tour

Octavia_L, Jul 2021
My tour guide was amazing from start to finish. He was very knowledgeable about the island. The home to the river was beautiful and he informed us of what we were seeing the entire trip. We even had a small pop quiz lol once to the river he made sure everyone was comfortable. The river was crystal clear and watching everyone jump into it was soo much fun. He encouraged those of us that wanted to jump to jump and he was always at the bottom waiting. Thank you for such an awesome trip!

Fantastic

Angel was the best guide. Raphael was so kind and knowledgeable. They gave us an amazing experience. Would do this everyday if I could.

Fun natural rock slides and fresh watering hole!

Chanel_A, Jul 2020
Although the national parks are still closed until the island is more open for official tourism, Elias and Edwin made the best of the situation. We had a full itinerary of adventure. They took us to a bathroom break, three local beaches for a quick dip and a photo opp, and a private rock slide and fresh watering hole on the South side of the forest. The entire tour was from door to door pick up was 6 hours (we were just lucky since there’s not many tourism right now). Edwin is very passionate, and on the way there he answered our questions about the history of the islands. However if you want to just sit and relax he will kindly give you space just tell him. He is friendly and warm, and Elias is chill and laid back focusing on the road. They are great guys. The coordination before the tour with Lele and Alex was also very profesional. Given the uncertain times they were transparent and communicative from the beginning by calling me before our trip, we were happy to provide them our business. I will highly recommend them in the future. We will be back!!

Completely worth it

Lina_S, Mar 2020
Our tour guide was funny and interesting. The walk itself was a little rough since it was raining but he was very patient and waited for me and my friend as we took breaks.

Skip it

Susan_T, Feb 2020
Our guide literally never stopped talking. We got out of the van a total of 3 times. The guide was very opinionated about politics and we had zero time to appreciate any of the scenery as a result.

Great and learned a ton!

Lucia_P, Sep 2019
Tour guide and duration were perfect! We had so much fun and learned a ton about the jungle and Puerto Rico.
