Itinerary

After pickup at your Prague hotel, travel by air-conditioned Mercedes through the picturesque countryside to Konopiste Castle. Let your guide know if there’s anything you want to see more of: your private tour comes with a flexible itinerary.

On route, listen as your guide sheds light on Konopiste’s history. Originally a 13th-century Gothic fortification, the castle was redesigned as a baroque-style chateau before becoming home to Austria’s Archduke Franz Ferdinand in the late 19th century. The heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, the Archduke was assassinated in 1914, lighting the touchpaper for WWI.

After roughly an hour, arrive at Konopiste and enjoy a tour of the interiors. Explore the Archduke’s wood-paneled private chambers and halls, as you hear about his life. See the deer antlers and shooting gallery with its moving targets — he was a keen hunter — and view other highlights including the Obbizi-d’Este armory, an extensive collection of medieval weaponry. Then, stroll around the parkland to admire the rose gardens, sculptures, and glasshouses.

After free time for shopping, get your guide’s recommendations on local restaurants where you can enjoy a traditional Czech lunch (own expense). Your tour concludes back at the starting point.

Konopiste Castle tour

We had an excellent tour of Konopiste Castle and our guide, Barbara was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the castle and also the history of the Czech Republic. We were picked up in a luxury car and driven to the castle and Barbara briefed us in the history on the drive. She also took us on a very beautiful nature walk prior to the tour. She assured that everything was handled well and that we were comfortable with the meeting point etc. it was an amazing experience.

Our guide did not know much, I was asking questions but she didn't know the answers. If it's a private tour shouldn't we be the ones saying do this tour etc but no she was. Driver was good. Didn't see the need for the guide.
