Itinerary

Leave central Prague by air-conditioned coach and travel southwest to the city of Pilsen. It was in 1842 that the city began making the now-legendary Pilsner Urquell: the world's first pale lager.

On arrival, take a tour of Pilsner Urquell brewery to see where the original beer was first brewed and how it’s made today. Peer into the modern brewing facility and historical cellars, and enjoy tasting.

Next, enjoy a 3-course lunch and drink in a local tavern. Then, board your coach and continue to Nizbor, a small town on the Berounka River famous for producing another Czech export—Bohemian glass, sometimes known as Czech crystal.

En route, hear about the history of glassmaking in Bohemia, and how it evolved into the making of delicate crystal favored by Europe’s royals during the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Visit a local glassworks to learn more about its products, watch the glassblowers in action, and discover how the shaped glass is then hand-cut into delicate ornaments. Browse the showroom, and, if you wish, take advantage of the discounted prices to buy some of the exquisite finished pieces.

Your tour concludes with a drop-off in central Prague.

Both the places were very good, informative & interesting. Only our guide, for that day Mr Arthur was a very rude person & completely inconsiderate. Otherwise the trip was very nice & we enjoyed the day.

Tour wasn't what was promised.

Mark_S, Sep 2024
This was the worst tour of our entire 19 day vacation. We booked a tour that included a trip to a glass factory, lunch at at local restaurant, and a tour of the Pilsner Urquell brewery. The guide suggested we not go to the planned glass factory and she would take us to a comperable small family owned one. We went to this shop for about a 15-20 minute demonstration and then were moved out for another larger tour. We couldn't go for an English speaking tour of the brewery because the only one available was too late in the day. We tried a tour in a language that we didn't understand and after 5 minutes, we knew it wouldn't work. Lunch went off as planned. Grayline tours knew in advance that there would be issues this tour and the guide said they hadn't offered it in months. She said she tried to contact me in advance to discuss changes but that was a lie. I received no emails. phone calls, texts, WhatsApp messages, or communication through Viator to discuss the changes to this tour with her. In addition, she didn't seem to know where she was driving. She had to keep turning around. In fact, my wife used her google maps to keep correcting her directions. She didn't even drop us off at our hotel at the end of the tour as promised. We walked the last 1-2 blocks.

A great day outside of Prague

Extremely interesting tours on 2 ends of the spectrum. We learned a lot at both stops—but really came to appreciate the artistry in the glass work. Many added historical bonuses!

Awesome Day Trip!

We had a wonderful time visiting the brewery and glass factory. The process used to make the glass is incredible and you can buy beautiful glass for reasonable prices. The brewery is worth the trip and full of history. The beer is delicious as well. We would highly recommend this to others.

Company would not take us on tour

Perry_H, Jun 2019
We paid in advance online and had tickets downloaded. We arrived at the meeting point in the city and there was no official system or person to check our tickets. Then the tour guide and bus driver simply told us they would not being doing the tour. They made many excuses that its not a great time of year anyway for glass factory and that they were taking someone else on a trip to Vienna instead. No warning at all. I am attempting to get a refund but the company is not answering calls or emails from the Viator representative. Extremely unreliable company

Good tour. Very poor admin.

Martin_C, Jun 2019
2 emails requesting hotel pick up ignored. On arrival made numerous calls to local number provided. All had a recorded message in Czech so not understood. Mentioned to guide (Italian) on arrival at tour - not that concerned or unapologetic. Tour good although guide not very confident or knowledgeable.

Fascinating

The on-site guide at the Pilsner Brewery was engaging, informative and delightful. The on-site guide for the Glass Factory was friendly and informative as well. They were pleasant, engaging and knowledgeable. The lunch offered in the package was delicious. We were late getting to the glass factory as we had to wait for a guide to accompany our transportation.

An excellent day out during our 7 day stay in Prague. The visit to the glass factory was fascinating.. we got to watch every step of the process although the promised information during the drive out never materialized Lunch was equally good and the tour of Pilsner Urquell was a highlight of our entire time away. Our only issue was with our tour guide, Edward. I'm not sure if he was just having a bad day, but he was 'curt' to the point of being rude for most of the day. By the end of the day, the 5 of us who were on the mini-bus, were having fun just watching him melt down when things did not go his way.

Our guide Peter was great. Had a great conversation with him while we drove to and from the brewery and glass blowing factory. The brewery tour was 1.5 hours long and pretty good for a brewery tour. Plus, straight from the cask beer sampling near the end of the tour. Peter also treated us to a great lunch in Plzen. I would recommend this tour.

This tour was great and our guide, Peter, very helpful and friendly. While we were driving to our destinations he provided us with a lot of history and background on the city. We were the most excited for the tour of the crystal factory, which we loves -- it was amazing seeing so much done by hand. But we were wowed by the brewery tour -- probably the best beer we've had during our whole trip!

We loved our glass and brewery tour. Both factories were so much fun. We bought some amazing looking glassware, vases and glass pieces at the factory at such incredible prices. Pieces that will always remind us of our trip to Prague. The beer tour was super interesting and the guide was young but super knowledgeable and very energetic- made it fun. Also met some great people on trip. Would highly recommend this tour.

Brewery guide was a lot of fun and very informative. Would have preferred on the glass factory that we were able to follow the whole process. Was shown the finished product, then on back to the blowing. Seemed a little backward

Loved this tour. Fantastic trip ....loved the glass factory and also loved the pilsna beer factory. Both we're brilliant. Our only complaint was our driver!!!!! Our guide was a beautiful lady I think her name was Hilda - an elderly Czech lady....very lovely. However our driver......a man can not call him a gentleman who only spoke Czech or Russian was not very nice....he constantly argued with our guide and travelled too fast and erratically at the most inappropriate times. Loved this tour and our guide but was not very impresses with our driver a centiment shared by others on our tour.

A day trip to Pilsen and the glass factory on the way. Our guide, Djan, went above and beyond to help with a lost passport. Our trip in Pilsen included a stop at the police station.. Very complete tour of the brewery with tasting afterward. Small old-style glass production with opportunity to buy the product. A nice meal in a restaurant near the brewery.

Excellent tour. Glass factory was good but a little disappointed as it works as a production line with little or no individual creativity. Not the tours fault . Brewery was excellent. Caves etc were great but one tasting when they make several beers a little disappointing. Overall great and worth the money.

This was an excellent day trip from Prague. Our tour guide and driver, Jan, was knowledgeable and proficient. We first visited the Ruckl crystal factory in Nizbor. It was really neat to see how these crystal pieces are made and gives one a true appreciation for the work that goes into one. At the end of the tour there was the opportunity to buy some crystal, but there was absolutely no pressure to do so. The prices appeared to be very good!! We then headed off to Pilzen. We were given a 1/2 hour to tour the town on our own before heading off to lunch. Lunch was traditional Czech food in a restaurant in Pilzen. It was very good. Then we headed over to the Pilsner brewery where we had an excellent tour. It was an excellent day tour out of Prague.

Pretty well timed and interesting tour. We were lucky on that day it was just the 7 of our party taking the tour so we had the guide and his time all for our selves. Our guide Fabrizzio was keen to explain the history of the region as we journeyed, which was quite good for a history buff like me. Our first stop was at the Ruckl crystal factory where we could observe the famous Bohemian glass-making in the traditional manner. Then off to the Pilsner Urquell brewery where the pilsner larger was invented! This was different to couple of other beer / brewery tours we have taken in the past, as this was a proper working large-scale factory, rather than something kept functioning just for tourists. Overall it was quite interesting and an enjoyable tour, where we could take our own time for a change exploring the gift-shops, enjoying lunch and taking snaps, etc. Enjoyed the lunch at a local restaurant in Pilsen too, which was part of the package.

We loved the glass blowing trip! I have a new appreciation for fine glassware. The brewery was fine. Bring along a sweater. Although it was 90 outside, the basements that are part of the tour are very cold.

The tour in itself is very interesting and good and would have gotten 5-star if it wasn't for the guide. He did give some good info, but I never have experienced a more I don't care and I would rather not be here-attitude

June H, Apr 2016
The problem was the guide Thomas - he really wasn't a guide as other than giving us timing repeatedly 3 or 4 times each time he didn't tell us much and when we asked questions he would just say he didn't know. There were also problems with timing - we arrived at the brewery at 1140 and it was only after he had purchased our tour tickets that he discovered the next tour wasn't until 1pm. Then he couldn't find the driver to take us for lunch - why would they not have cell phone connections? We got to the restaurant for lunch after 12 and so lunch was very rushed and then we had to wait for the driver to pick us up - again cell phone communication could have avoided this. There was also some disagreement between the driver and guide at other points - not a comfortable feeling. The local guides at the glass factory and brewery were excellent.

The crystal glass factory was very interesting but also distressing in terms of the work environment. The lack of safety equipment was astonishing to us. Brewery was also interesting but I would pass on this trip. The guides were very knowledgeable and the van was very comfortable but the trip wasnot memorable.
