After exploring the cathedral, hear about the role that Jewish people played in establishing Porto’s merchant trade during Portugal’s early years. Trace the outlines of the city’s different Jewish quarters, both inside and outside the city walls, with your guide.
Take in medieval vistas from bridges and viewpoints as you hear how the Portuguese Inquisition tormented Jewish people and endeavored to erase their role in the past. See a gate which once opened onto a medieval ghetto, where Jewish people were confined, and other places where the Jewish community left their mark.
Your tour finishes at Ribeira Square, about a 10-minute stroll from the cathedral.

Ricardo had an astounding amount of knowledge. He was wonderfully interesting with both modern stories and historical information. He shared and pointed out details that I never would have seen or known and kept my attention riveted for 2.5 hours! I learned about both Jewish and Portuguese history in Porto. We moved at a nice pace with no rush and time to ask questions. Thank you Ricardo and I definitely recommend this tour.

I suggest taking a taxi or an Uber or finding the meeting place in advance because we missed it. We took a bus and were unable to follow the map to meet the tour. Definitely not a NOT the tour’s fault — the guide called us and tried to give us directions AND held the tour likely longer than reasonable. If I can rebook for tomorrow we will start our earlier and take transportation directly to the meeting place.

Our guide was a great guy patient knowledgeable and friendly. Unfortunately although the history is interesting there’s very little to actually see . It’s a difficult walk lots of steps and hills so not really worth it for us

We had a marvellous guide for this tour (9.30 am on Tuesday 16 September) He took us to where the various Jewish parts of Porto used to be and explained everything clearly without being over verbose. Very personable and helpful. We walked up and down the old cobbled streets and hills and saw beautiful views.

Great experience, Ricardo was very knowledgeable. Lots of walking and many stairs. Wear good shoes. And hopefully it won’t be raining because then the walkways and roads are going to be very slippery.
