Unsure of how to visit the Douro valley on a limited schedule? Do not worry, this tour has you taken care of… From the vistas, backroads, phenomenal mountain top lunch to a great in depth winery visit, you will not be disappointed.

Avoid the masses

Rather than join the masses for a generic trip to Duoro, we opted for the 4x4 trip. Miguel was an excellent host and driver. He took us on a great ride, with stops for the view and pics. We used the 4x4 going up of the hills, and we were on the edge of steep drops at points in the narrow road. An amazing picnic lunch with a beautiful view. Finally, a personal port and wine tasting at Quinta Seara d'Ordens. It was great talking with Miguel throughout the trip. Very memorable!!

This tour was worth every euro! We went with tour guide Miguel, who was extremely welcoming, knowledgeable, and good natured. The Douro Valley is stunning and just a short drive from Porto. On this tour, there are several stopping points for photos, snacks, and restroom breaks. The picnic is prepared by a local catering company and was delicious! The drive up into the valley is not for the faint of heart, there are steep hills and narrow roads. There is a short “off road” section of the trip, but it is very mild off-roading and nothing extreme. I will say that there are no guard rails alone the terrace roads, so beware if you are afraid of heights. The winery you visit is lovely and very well organized. There are several large dogs on the Quinta that are free-roaming, but all are VERY friendly. I loved meeting them. I could not recommend this tour enough. We are so happy we spent this day with Miguel and Detours.

Rodrigo fro Detours was amazing! Passionate about his country, client focused and professional. He made extra efforts to accommodate out three young children and ensure that the trip was everything we expected it to be. And exploring the Duoro valley by jeep we saw a lot more than we would have by river cruise. We highly recommend Detours for excursions!!
