- Also, we would like to warn you the last row on the 4x4 vehicle is a bit difficult to get in too and the knees will be a bit high during the trip , It will not be a problem for the teenagers ,agile or smaller people, but they are the least comfortable seats, and the vehicle will be at its max.

This tour was a highlight of our 15-day transatlantic cruise. We had friends that did the Royal Caribbean (ship) excursion and from what we heard, there is just no comparison. Our driver and tour operator Luis was amazing! He took us on dirt "paths" to viewpoints that no bus would ever get to. We did visit the main tourist attractions but also spent a lot of time "off road".
We requested lunch at a local's restaurant and again, Luis came through. I ordered the Azores specialty - Octopus, and while it was not my favorite, I can see how people would like it.
This whole day was just so much fun! We had the opportunity to customize our tour but mostly just had Luis take us to his favorite spots.

Pur time with Luis was wonderful. He took us to beautiful areas on the island. Some of the areas needed a 4x4, so it was great to have those available. He asked us what we wanted to see and customized the day to us. He has a great knowledge of the island, not only places to visit but also the history. He was fun and pleasant. We would highly recommend Luis.

We booked 2 days with T4W and was fortunate to have Miguel as our driver / guide. He went out of his way to accommodate on our request which included stopping at a small town of my great-grandfather’s birth. We saw and experienced so many sights that would not have been possible with a standard your bus/van. Great company and better employees. I highly recommend.

It was great. Luis is friendly, funny, knowledgeable about history and local lore, good driver, took us to interesting places, made great suggestions for us, e.g having a picnic lunch in a secluded place by the lake.

incredible day. the views just kept getting better. i must have taken over 100’pics and that was after deleting the duplicates and not as good ones. we rented a car here since I read that you must have one. we considered cancelling because we could just drive. This is not at all the case! The 4 wheel drive took us to all kinds of places we would not have had access to. The landscape here is amazing and still so new to tourism.

Eight hours may seem like a long time, but we needed every minute of it. Our guide was fabulous and we had a perfect day. Our guide Miguel Meneses was so knowledgeable and made the day incredibly interesting. We give him an A+

We just finished with the most wonderful tour with Delfim! He picked us up exactly at 9 and gave us the most wonderful day! He drove us to beautiful spots around the island and a made a reservation for a delicious local lunch. He was an excellent driver and was extremely knowledgeable the Azores, specifically the island of Sao Miguel. He also gave us wonderful recommendations for our future days on Sao Miguel. Dilfim made an extra effort to make the day special by stopping off for pictures, giving us history, and even giving us a surprise visit to the pineapple plantation at the end of the day. We are very thankful for this memorable day and highly recommend him!

If you choose to rent a car and attempt to tour the island on your own, you may regret it. This is such a lush and beautiful place that has so many hidden gems and you likely won’t find any of them on your own. T4W knows where they are and how to get you to them because a regular car can’t take you; losing an oil pan or blowing a tire for an off-roading situation isn’t my idea of fun.
We would have never got to see the true beauty of this island if we tried to tour it on our own … we booked 2 ½ days with T4W and it still wasn’t enough time to see all of Sao Miguel’s natural wonders. We were completely in awe on each outing not just because of how beautiful the island is (the mountains of blossoms, lakes, waterfalls, enchanted forests, beaches) but also because of Delfim, he made our trip to the Azores magical!
Delfim was patient, ALWAYS accommodating, funny, adventurous, and very knowledgeable we soaked up everything he shared (he’s like a library with feet) and we took every recommendation …never disappointed; we lived for all of it! Seriously, he made calls with which area to visit based on the direction the wind was blowing. At the top of one peak, he nailed one of his weather tricks that left us speechless– it’s like he put in a 3min order with the heavens to clear up the view. Although it was high season, he took us to places where at times we were literally the only people there (serenity). As we drove past a crowded viewpoint, I smiled because I secretly knew we had been taken to some very special peaceful spots that the crowds didn’t know about - regrettable. My family of 4 loved our time with Delfim, especially my 15-year-old son who felt encouraged to explore. Happiness was seeing Sao Miguel through our guide’s eye, eating traditional dishes/deserts and local cheeses .. all recommended by him and all delicious! Much gratitude for making our time on Sao Miguel the highlight of our family vacation to Portugal. Delfim you’re famous … for your genuine and warm hospitality; you treated us like family; obrigado meu novo primo!

Telmo was an expert on the Açores, and with enthusiasm and pride shared his knowledge.
Telmo’s knowledge was not only from growing up on the island, but from research into the commercial and governmental programs to optimize the tourist experience. He knew the sites and parks, traditions and festivals, restaurants and experiences to help us celebrate our time in the Açores. We spent the day on the east side of the island, safely navigating the fog so that we were in the right spot at the right time for all the beautiful views. He also insured that we were in the right place to see the caldo stew, a local delicacy, being pulled from the hot springs ground before heading to the restaurant that served it for lunch.
We were worried that we would have to specify the days’ itinerary, since one is not proposed on the booking site, but Telmo came with ideas and suggestions and was more than open to our fine-tuning. We are ao glad we followed his suggestion to see half the island (the east half, due to the weather) rather than trying to do it all in one day. It’s too big to do the whole island justice in 8 hours!
We 100% recommend this tour. Telmo could not possibly have been kinder, or more helpful! We thoroughly enjoyed our day!

Our guide Gonçalo who grew up on the island and spoke fluent English was excellent, he was our guide for 2 days one of which was going to the west side of the island and today to the east. He was extremely personable and knowledgeable, and we learned a lot about the island and living on the island and saw some incredible places. The vehicle was clean and comfortable. He worked with us on the routing incorporating both our wishes and his knowledge. He was punctual and did not cut our days short, like some guides I had on the mainland. I lead trips myself and work with a lot of guides, (this was a this was a private trip with a friend accompanying me) and he is excellent. Very highly recommend.

A full day of adventure! Margarita was awesome!
We explored the volcanoes and back roads of San Miguel Island. Margarita was very knowledgeable and wanted me to see the greatness of the volcanoes from all different perspectives. Our vehicle could manage back roads which allowed me to experience the true island. I appreciate the farming community as well as the flora and fauna.

Excellent tour of the Azores. Goncalo was great. Do not hesitate to book this tour. We enjoyed our 8 hr excursion. Pick up from our cruise ship was on time and drop off with plenty of time to spare.

Phillippe picked us at the Cruise Terminal at 9:00AM, we went to the Pineapple Plantation (much better than I could have imagined, I learned much), had us back for Mass at 10:00 AM, then we toured the island for the next 5 hours. We had lunch at a local place (no crowds, great food) and we were back on time for the ship's departure. He was polite, knowledgable, helpful and very professional. When our ship stops their next year, we will do it again.

Ponta Delgada is a magnificent place, and this was a great was to see and experience it. I highly recommend this tour.

Vasco was a great tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and friendly. We did not have a specific plan in advance. He met with us, listened to our interests and made a great plan for us. He was also very accommodating for our 2 members with walking issues. The tour was a highlight of our entire 2 week Portugal trip.

Our tour guide was knowledgeable, fun, and engaging. He made the experience FANTASTIC. I feel we saw and experienced so much more on this tour than we would have on a group tour. Margarita was in tune with our interests every step of the way. Due to limited mobility we were not able to walk a lot but we felt we were able to see the beauty of the island. Margarita loves the Azores and it shows. We were not bored for a second of the whole day.

We went on two tours with this company and they were fabulous! They listened to our interests and took us to hidden gems and not to miss sites. All three guides we had were excellent and were also very patient with the teens/kids. I recommend doing your research to figure out what you might want to see and then let them know when they pick you up and they will plan and unforgettable day. 100% recommend.

A great day of sightseeing from vantage points only accessible by 4WD and/or foot. Our guide, Vasco, was engaging and extremely knowledgeable -- he made the day not just fun, but informative and thought-provoking as well. He happily accommodated our request to visit a couple of "off-menu" locales. I enthusiastically recommend this tour to anyone wanting a unique and personalized tour of this amazing island.

Vancouver was an amazing tour guide. While out wish list to visit was small he took us to some hidden gems and was full of history of the island and helpful with breakfast, lunch and dinner suggestions. Highly recommended!
