Itinerary
Step back in time to learn how Parmigiano-Reggiano, known as the 'king of cheeses,' is made with this visit to a 'caseficio,' or cheese factory. Find out why this is the provinces of Parma, Modena and Reggio Emilia, plus parts of Bologna and Mantova, are the only ones that can produce authentic parmigiano-reggiano – elsewhere it has to go by another name.
Watch cheesemakers at work as they cook the milk to separate the whey and lift the Parmigiano-Reggiano. See how the cheese goes on to be salted and shaped next, followed by placement in the aging room (the 'stagionatura' in Italian). Admire the rows and rows of aging wheels of cheese that perfume the air.
Learn about the strict tests required by the consortium before the cheese wheels are permitted to be sold as authentic Parmigiano-Reggiano, including hammering the wheels, and the fire branding that takes place. Finish the tour by tasting cheese along with honey and local wine. Pickup and drop-off from your Parma hotel is included.

Fantastic tour! Highly recommend. The tour guides were exceptional and very knowledgeable and welcoming. Detailed view of the actual process of cheese making on an actual farm that produces/processes the cheese.. The tour provides transportation to/from the tour - excellent service. Definitely my husband and I enjoyed this tour very much & the tasting of cheeses and wine were superb.

What an amazing experience!!! Our guide Sergio was incredible, he is very knowledgeable, and entertaining, il caseificio is great, I’m glad it’s a small one, I learned so much about the Art of cheese making, also about il prosciutto di Parma !

Matteo (spelling?) was exceptional. He gave a great overview of the Parma region as well as deep and interesting knowledge about the parmigiana cheese making process. Engaging, funny and informative.

Lovely tour and it was super informative. The transfer from the Parma train station was super easy and it was so nice to interact with other participants too!

Great option if you only want to visit a cheese producer. We got to see the entire process from start to finish at a smaller producer that does the entire process in-house. From milk from their own cows to the final cheese. Our guide Lori's was friendly and informative and explained every part of the process. He even suggested a shop in Parma to get 100 month old Parmigiano Reggiano.

Visiting the Parmigiano cheese factory in Parma was such a memorable experience! As a solo traveler from Pakistan, I loved connecting with the group and sharing this journey together. Our tour guide, Daniele, was incredibly sweet and knowledgeable who made the whole experience even better. Watching the cheese-making process up close and exploring the beautiful countryside of Parma was amazing. The cheese tasting was the highlight, and of course, I couldn’t resist buying some authentic Parmigiano straight from the factory!

This tour was just an enjoyable time and a nice opportunity to meet people from elsewhere. The subject was very interesting and most educational. I would recommend a food tour in Parma to everybody.

You’ll learn about how good quality cheese is made. From the cows, to milk to cheese. Our guide was very informative; we were able to see the entire process. Absolutely worth it. We sampled various aged cheese and there a noticeable difference in better (older) cheese.

Learned a lot about the cheese making process and how to differentiate authentic ParmesanReggiano from lesser quality imitations.

Had an amazing morning on this fantastic little tour. We were picked up on time by our fabulous tour guide George (aka Sergio) who was very friendly. Lovely short car ride through beautiful countryside to reach the Dairy. Beautiful setting and amazing tour following the full journey from cow to store! George also gave our tour and demonstrations and was so knowledgable and personable, a real asset to the team. The tasting at the end was fantastic and they have a little farm shop where you can buy delicious cheese from the cheesemaster himself. Highly recommend!

We fully enjoyed our tour of the cheese farm. Wish I could remember the fellow who picked us up at the hotel he was wonderful very knowledgeable and eager to answer any questions we had. This was something my husband really wanted to do. Thank you from Mike & Lisa from Florida 🧀

This was fascinating. Pietro clearly has a true love of his region and a true pride in the tradition of Parmegiano Reggiano. We left with a much deeper appreciation for the high standards that make this food so special.

Loris, our guide, did an excellent job in explaining everything about the process of making Parmiggiano and Prosciutto (did both tours) - from start to the finished product. Great to see the cheesemakers working and how much effort is put into every single piece/wheel og cheese/prosciutto. Great day out in the country - tastings are generous. Loris by the way spoke English very well!! Thanks, I had a lovely time.

Our guide was so informative and it felt like the real deal-up close with a small parmigiano producer. Great experience and fun!

Fabulous tour! Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. Short but beautiful drive through Parma countryside. Highly recommend!!
Rebecca_L, Sep 2024
Loved seeing so many wheels of cheese on the shelves and learning how they can tell if they are good enough to merit the official stamp of Parmesan Reggiano. Also how they initially mix the ingredients and how different the taste is before the salt is added (wasn’t palatable at all)

Loris was an amazing tour guide. We enjoyed our tour very much, especially learning the process of making Parma cheese.

A must do experience! Matthias, our guide made a real nice tour, explained us everything about parmegianno regiano and he also helped us with our trip in Italy with restaurants and etc.
Ragnar_B, Jul 2024
Very fun tour, full of interesting facts about the parmigiano reggiano. We got to follow the entire process from alfalfa, via cow to aged cheese, all guided by a very knowledgeable host.

Great experience. It was fun to see a real farm in action. We got to see every step of the cheesemaking process and got to taste two ages of cheese. Thank you for a wonderful tour.

George was a great tour guide! Loved his passion for the making of Parmesan-Reggiamo cheese. The cheese is delicious. Farm is about 20 minutes away. We returned to our meeting point at the NH hotel at the Parma train station around 10:55. The hotel is great with a buffet breakfast for 18 euro each.

I was in a small group with George. He explained everything, it was interesting and as a little present he took us to the baby cows. Really enjoyed!

Really enjoyed this tour and the cheese tasting. The cheese master was so kind and knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. When in Italy you have to go to Parma and do a cheese tour and I highly recommend this one.

Great tour and amazing guides :) very personal and the tasting at the end was amazing! Would definitely do this tour again!
Brian_L, Feb 2024
Seeing the process to make the cheese was very interesting. The tour itself was too long and the guide wasn’t very confident with her facts and in her delivery. Also the cost for this tour was way to high for the experience. We have been on three hour guided tours of the Vatican and colosseum that didn’t cost as much.

This was super fun and I’m so glad I did it. The tour was very educational and I was able to see, up close, how they make their parmigiano.
Harry_B, Sep 2023
A worthwhile tour of a small farm and cheese producer. Very informative. Having done one before at a larger producer, I much prefer this experience where you can see the entire process and interact with the people that are producing the cheese. HIghly recommended. Goupr is medium size (15-20 people) and it is a partially outdoor experience on an active farm, so dress accordingly.
