Our guide, Bharti was fabulous. She had lived in this slum all of her life and her children were 5th generation. She took us on a fascinating tour which included sections where plastic was recycled, where soap was made, pottery produced and garments were dyed and created. We were fortunate enough to meet her lovely children, father and other members of her family. Bharti had perfect English and it was a tour we will never forget. I can't recommend her highly enough!

Dear Donna,
Thank you so much for sharing such a meaningful and heartfelt review. We are truly honored to hear that your experience with Bharti was so memorable. Her deep personal connection to the community, combined with her excellent English and knowledge, allows guests to gain a genuine and respectful understanding of life in Dharavi.
We’re glad you enjoyed learning about the recycling units, soap making, pottery, and garment production, and that meeting her family made the experience even more special. Reviews like yours remind us why responsible and community-based tourism is so important.
We deeply appreciate you choosing Young Tours and Travel.
Please know that your booking directly supports our NGO, Young Cares Foundation, which works for education, empowerment, and community development in Dharavi. Thank you for helping us give back to the community you visited.
We truly value your recommendation and hope to welcome you again in the future.

This was the most amazing tour. We weren’t sure about being “those people” who go and look at other peoples situations based on our own, but when I looked into this one a little bit more I read that the proceeds of the tour go back into the community so we went.
We had Divya as our guide who was like a local celebrity! Apparently the first female to offer this tour. She gave us the most memorable experiences in every part of the places we visited and has a good knowledge of the workings. She was even stopped by some Dutch tourists who said they had recognised her from YouTube! She also lives there and we got to see her beautiful home and meet her lovely family.
If you are worried about going then don’t be! It is an experience I will remember for a lifetime and so glad I went.
There is a lovely community here and seeing all of the ins and outs was amazing!
I read on some forum that you should only take the kids pens and pencils etc but the reality is the kids wanted chocolate! They were very appreciative of our gifts and seeing their smiling faces was worth every penny but it’s chocolate they love!
So thank you Divya for an amazing tour and hopefully see you again! And thank you for our gifts! We love them.

Dear Jacqueline
Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful words!
We’re absolutely thrilled to hear that you had such an unforgettable experience with Divya—yes, she truly is a local celebrity and a pioneer as the first female guide from Dharavi! Her deep connection with the community, welcoming nature, and passion for sharing stories make every tour truly unique. It’s heartwarming that you got to meet her family and see where she lives—it’s these authentic moments that make the experience so special.
Your initial hesitation is completely understandable, and we’re grateful that you chose to take part with an open mind. Dharavi is full of life, resilience, and inspiring stories, and we’re honored to share that with the world. It’s also lovely to hear how much joy your small gifts brought to the children—those smiling faces stay with you forever!
Most importantly, we deeply appreciate your support—a portion of your tour fee goes directly toward our NGO, Young Cares Foundation, which works to uplift and support local families, children, and women through education and community initiatives. So thank you for not just visiting, but making a difference.
We look forward to welcoming you again!
