During our Costa Rican trip, we went on 7 fantastic tours through Viator, but this one was a complete disappointment. I was happy when the tour operator communicated with me beforehand and agreed to start the tour at 2:00 rather than 12:30. That enabled us to book this trip because we were coming from Herradura that morning. On the day of the tour, we were picked up in a completely packed van at 2:20 and dropped off at the Cloud Forest around 3:00. As soon as we met the guide, he told us that the forest closed at 4:00 and “maybe it wasn’t worth paying the $80 admission fee to the park.” We wanted to make the most of the time we had, so we paid it. The tour guide was probably annoyed because he was the least enthusiastic, least animated, least friendly tour guide we had on all our trips. We saw almost no animals and would have been better off had we gone on our own - at least we wouldn’t have been late. I’m just not sure why the tour operator did not say to me beforehand “yes, we can make the tour start later but you’ll miss more than half the tour because the forest closes at 4pm.” In the end, we had less than an hour of a 2.5 hour tour. I requested a partial refund from the tour company and my request was denied. Not sure why.
