This is a fantastic experience, our pilot was brilliant and gave us incredible views of the historical site from above. You can purchase photos and videos afterwards which were beautifully shot. Breakfast was delicious accompanied by musicians in the background and we also bought their guided tour which was excellent. Highly recommend

Very smooth experience overall. Organizing a pick up was easy. Registration is available in english or spanish (bring your passport). The balloon ride itself was magical. It was impressive to see Teotihuacan from above and later on walking around it. Highly recommend Volaro as a company and it's definitely worth the money.

Our experience was fantastic as the whole operation is so well run. It was amazing to see the ruins from the balloon! I can’t say enough good things about our pilot, Juan. I was nervous as I’ve never done this before, but Juan was clearly a very capable pilot, and I was able to relax. This is an experience to not miss!

I truly felt very safe on the ride and the company itself was very organized. Breakfast was also very good with many vegetarian options. The only thing I would say is that we seemed to take off later than a lot of the other balloon companies so we missed the peak sunrise. I wish we could have taken off earlier. The basket I was in was small and did not feel crowded which was great! If you add on the pyramid experience just know that you are there for quite a long time (about 3 hours, which is longer than you need).

Volare is one of the bigger companies that operate hot air balloons at Teotihuacan. I felt safe the whole time so this review is more a 3.5*. Everything else feels like a money grab. Drones, pictures, tours. If you purchase the Hot Air Balloon and Teotihuacan visit, that's all you're getting. When you arrive at their office, you'll have to queue to register everyone else that got delivered to the office. The registration took awhile but it was nice to have a coffee and banana while waiting. You could add a full tour for 400 pesos (I believe?) We were efficiently taken on our balloons. This was the best part of the tour. We got very close to the pyramids, which was cool. After, we got shuttled to Teotihuacan. When we got dropped off, this was another opportunity for them to sell a guided tour, which I ended up going on because I didn't want to just wander the site. They sold it for 300 but that is negotiable. The tour was OK but it was clear they were trying to sell us to their partnered vendors (e.g. obsidian carvers). They also took us to the caves at the end of the tour and was very unclear about it costing 100 more pesos (I opted not to go once I realized this). All in all, the tour was fine and safety was the most important thing for me. A 5* tour would be one that provided more information about the Teotihuacan history and less trying to sell us stuff. Also note your entrance fee is not included, which is clear in the description.

Amazing experience! I 100% recommend this agency. It was very organized and full of surprises during the experience. You get to fly very close to the pyramids. They also offer photography services with a drone and also before the flight by the balloon (extra charge). The breakfast is incredible, with live mariachis. My mom got sick, and they had paramedics on site. Yesvid was very kind and gave electrolytes and medicine to my mom, and she was good all day. No other company offers this, and you never know if you get sick, that day.

A brilliant solo experience – highly recommend

I booked the hot air balloon ride inc. transport to/from Mexico City and time to visit the pyramids, and it was an all-round fab experience. As a solo traveller I felt comfortable and well looked-after the whole time. The early 5am start is absolutely worth it on a good weather day. I went in March, which was chilly first thing, so definitely layer up, though it warms up quickly on the balloon itself with the heat from the fire. The timing meant we got to watch the balloons being inflated at sunrise, then took off just as the sun came up at its brightest and deffo its prettiest. The ride itself lasts around 45 minutes (est. 30-50, as landing spots aren’t fixed in advance). We ended up touching down in a field with local workers running over to help, which only added to the fun – as did clipping the edge of a tree on the descent! The port is a great pre- and post-flight base. All the staff are very helpful and everything runs smoothly, with both English and Spanish options available. Before the flight there’s coffee while you wait to be called to board, and watching the balloons inflate is a great way to pass that time. The boarding process is very straightforward, even as a solo traveller with no one to follow, I had no issues at all. After landing, there’s a champagne toast at the site before being taken back to the port for a Mexican buffet with traditional food and a mariachi band who come round to each table – they were lovely! You get a good hour or so with no rush before buses depart for the pyramids (or back to the city if you opted out). FYI – when you check in on arrival, there’s an option to book a walking tour of the pyramids for around £20. I’d definitely recommend it – the guides are fab, and the Teotihuacan history is vast and fascinating, so having someone to walk you through it makes a real difference. Great value for money. I’ve already recommended it to friends.

The company seems to have polished it's process and operates efficiently and smoothly. Even though only a list of pickup locations were given at booking time, they offered to pick us up directly from our hotel after I messaged them. The view on the flight was incredible when everything was bathed in the morning sunlight and many other colorful balloons were in the air. After the flight and breakfast, we were shown the photo/video package (from drones). I think it is too pricy (but you may be able to negotiate it down a bit), however the footage is amazing. Then they will bus you to the pyramids (locals and guides prefer to call them "temples"). Once you get off, you will be given some short sales pitch to use their own (or partnered) guides. If you do choose to go with them, you will be further shown a store selling obsedian crafts and local liquor. We didn't expect that, but overall that didn't take too long and we did learn a few interesting things from the introduction and sample drinking. The guide then took us to the pyramids, and later another cave outside. They ensured we got back to the pick up spot on time to get back to the city. Overall it was a pleasant and very memorable experience.

Great Family Experience with Disappointing Ending

The pickup process went well for a very early morning. Despite many balloons taking off with many patrons in the morning, it was well organized and timely. Our pilot Juan was excellent and extremely enthusiastic about providing us a great experience. After landing we were transported back to the takeoff location for decent breakfast. We opted for a self-guided exploration of the archeological site, and were assigned a van transport to the site with other patrons with the same plan. After arrival near one of the site entrances, we explored for a couple hours on our own (entrance fee to the site is not included in this option, which was made clear up front). We were assigned another new van ride back to our hotel in a different van/driver than pickup and all other transports. This part is where the trip loses stars for me. This van was much tighter than the other vans we were in that day, my legs were too long to fit in the seats. I was not the only person with this problem in our van, and every seat was full. Traffic was very bad getting back into the city this day, so eventually our driver just gave up and told us he was done for the day. No one in our van was dropped off at their hotels or original pickup spots from that morning. We were dropped off about 1.4 miles away from our pickup location along the side of a major road in a different part of town, and told by the driver “This is close enough, I am done driving today.” Obviously this was disappointing for us and the other patrons in our crammed van, but there was nothing we could do. We walked the rest of the way back to our hotel. Overall it was a great experience for our family, but definitely ended on a sour note.

A memorable experience!

After doing a lot of research on tour companies, we were so happy that we decided to go with Volare. The entire tour from start to finish was memorable and smooth. Seeing Teotihuacan from above was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience, but the team at Volare made everything top-notch. We opted for the hotel pickup in the city and enjoyed a safe, smooth ride. From there, we were assigned a hot air balloon, with coffee and a light snack. Our pilot was so great, keeping us safe and ensuring we had a great time. The photographer was an added treat, too! The breakfast buffet was nicer than expected, in a lovely outdoor terrace with live traditional music, and a vegetarian-friendly traditional breakfast. You can choose to add a tour to the ruins (recommended), which includes a ride to and from the ruins with Volare, with two options: a guided experience where Volare connects you with a guide, or an independent visit to see the ruins on your own. Those doing it on their own may also connect with a local guide at the ruins. My only tip is to do your research in advance on the add-on tours for the ruins and pick the one that makes sense for you, so you know what to expect and don't feel frazzled when making a choice. Things move pretty quickly on the day of, so knowing what you want in advance, if you opt for an add-on advance, is helpful!

The trip is well organized and professional. Bathrooms are clean. Breakfast was fine. The female lead singer in the mariachi band has a great voice, and the band was fun.

Despite the tour picking us up at 4:45am, the hot air balloon wasn't ready until after the sunrise and we missed flying with all the other hot air balloons. We ended up flying when nearly all other balloons were grounded which lead to a less immersive experience in the sky. The breakfast afterwards was very disappointing. It was a "buffet" with 3 items and refried beans. The tour is very large with about 40 people meaning there is a lot of waiting around.

Incredible Experience

Essential activity for a Mexico City visit. You get to see all the ruins from above (surprisingly close) before they open the park which makes for great pictures. For those afraid of heights, the balloon is very steady and you can stand away from the basket edges if desired. The company has a drone which takes cool shots of the balloon and the riders (costs extra at the end). Recommend taking the guided tour of the park at the end (bookable at the site before you get in the balloon) but prepare for the sun as you are in direct sunlight for several hours.

There was no leg room in the van . They sold picture packages but did not tell us a drone would take pictures. I was not in the pictures. Had I known a drone would take pictures while we were in the air I would have been looking out for it. The balloon ride was a once in a lifetime experience for me and I really wanted the pictures. Also, they ran out of food at breakfast. They did not do a good job of planning the food. Only a few people had breakfast tacos. It’s Mexico! We all wanted to try the tacos. The balloon ride itself was amazing! For this reason I would recommend the balloon ride.

Although a little nervous, took the leap and tried this balloon experience with husband and son. Early morning with a 5:00 am start but well worth it! From pickup to finish everything was organized and straightforward. It’s about an hour ride from the city but things get going pretty quick upon arrival at the launch site. There’s coffee and snacks pre-flight and then everyone is lined up in groups to board the ballon. Photographers are on hand to document the flight and Volare had a drone as well as a time lapse camera attached to the ballon. All for purchase if you like. Our flight captain Ernesto and his crew were very nice and efficient and made us feel very safe. Afterwards we celebrated the journey with a wine toast, got flight certificates and enjoyed breakfast. There is the option to tour the pyramids for a small fee $12 USD but our group opted to return to CDMX. It’s your choice to go or stay and very flexible. The flight was calm, peaceful and the sunrise beautiful. If you’re on the fence, try it for sure. No regrets and an amazing experience!
