Pickup details

We provide pick up and drop off in any neighborhood in El Poblado and Laureles District. If your place is not listed please don't worry just enter the name of the hotel/building or the address manually and we'll be there. For groups larger than six people, we must transport guests in two vehicles because vans cannot access the farm—the road is too steep and narrow. In this setup, one vehicle travels with our fully bilingual guide, while the second vehicle is driven by a transportation-only driver who does not provide guiding services. Once the group arrives at the farm, the entire tour experience is conducted 100% in English for everyone.

This was an incredible experience! I went with my 12-year old daughter and she loved it as well. Our guide, Erika, spoke English very well and was very friendly. During our drive, she shared some interesting information about Medellin and Colombia. We felt very safe and comfortable the entire time. The chocolate farm is a bit outside of the city, higher in the mountains. The family that owns the farm were very kind and lovely hosts. They only spoke Spanish, so Erika was helpful in translating everything for us. The tour was private, so we could ask questions and fully participate. The walk up to the trees to pick the cacao pods was a bit steep, and you are definitely in nature, so I recommend shoes or boots that are comfortable for climbing and that you don't mind getting dirty. You might also be more comfortable with long pants and bug spray. I didn't notice any bug bites, but we sprayed ourselves before the trip. The walk is brief and not very strenuous, but you are in higher altitude, so bringing water is important. We got to experience (and taste!) every part of making chocolate in a very beautiful environment. If you want to buy any chocolate to take home with you, bring Colombian pesos since they do not take credit cards or US dollars. This was an amazing experience and I highly recommend!

This tour was one of the best we’ve had after visiting 30+ countries (including multiple tea, coffee, and agriculture tours around the globe). It was beautiful to see and support local and female-owned entrepreneurship, interact with such a sweet and authentic family, and learn so much about the world of chocolate. Alejandro is one of the most amazing guides we’ve had in all of our travels, and he made the experience that much better. This is a world-class itinerary that was supplemented by an equally world-class guide, and I strongly recommend this experience to all who visit Medellin.

This was the most magical day! Laura is truly a special soul and her positive energy is beautifully genuine and infectious. She went above and beyond expectations and by the end of the day my cheeks hurt from smiling and laughing so much. I can’t imagine having had a better experience. I’m incredibly grateful.

Not for the faint of heart. Some very steep hills, and your lungs will complain, but the air is clean, and the nature is all around you. Your coffee will never taste the same again.

Enriching and Beautiful Experience!

Great Chocolate, Even Better People

Adam_C, Dec 2024
This Tour is a must do if you are in Medellin. My friends and I had such an amazing time picking the chocolate and learning all about the chocolate making process. Honestly, the true magic was in the small mountain side home and farm that we were so generously invited into by Sandra and her family. Sandra and everyone on the farm were super kind and welcoming, they made us feel like part of the family. Laura, our tour guide, was nothing shy of Incredible. She had so much to tell us not only about the farm and chocolate, but also about Medellín as a city. If you have the chance you should definitely try to request her as your tour guide for this trip!! Thanks again to Sandra, her family and Laura for the best tour we did in Medellin! See you next time!

You will not regret

It is a fantastic tour and I would recommend it to all future travelers. Sara is an excellent guide and the family owning the farm is very welcoming. The tour provides an inclusive experience of all steps to the chocolate-making process and is well worth the time.

The family at the cacao farm were so pleasant and friendly, it was as if you lived did. Our tour guide from the moment to pick-up through drop-off took time to explain and answer any questions. If you like nature and want to check out of busy city life for a few hours, take this tour.

Best Tour

This tour was an amazing experience. From the ride up to the farm and seeing the amazing views, to picking the cacao fruits at the plantation. The farm is beautiful and from the beginning we were treated like family and welcomed. The entire experience was memorable. If I could recommend one tour in Medellin it would be this one.

Wonderful Chocolate Experience in Medellin

Great tour and mixture of sightseeing and hands on experiences. Also a pleasure to meet and help support a genuine local family as they build their farm and community-based enterprise. Win-win-win collaboration for locals and tourists.

Our tour was awesome. We had a great time. Our tour guide Laura and Sandra did a fantastic job. They explained to us everything about making chocolate from the scratch. It was a wonderful experience. Sandra’s family were very friendly and the place was amazing. We learned a lot. Highly recommend it.

Best day of our trip!

Allison_L, Mar 2024
This was the most amazing experience. This small family farm was beautiful - perched up in the mountains. The family was so welcoming of us in their home. We went through the whole chocolate process, with plenty of tasting along the way. Sarah our guide was outstanding. Thanks for a great afternoon.

Fantastic private tour of cacao farm!

Brian_L, Feb 2024
Our tour guide, the farm, the host family farmers, the education about cacao… can’t say enough good things about this trip! It was just the right amount of time and we walked away learning SO much!

More than a chocolate tour!

Anne_D, Feb 2023
What a memorable experience we had touring the chocolate farm. Hiked through the property to enjoy breathtaking views, and learned how to identify ripeness and invasive species. We were treated to delicious hand squeezed tangerine juice, then we were put to work. We participated in roasting, hulling and grinding the cacao beans. Next we decided the percentage of sugar to chocolate, and made our own chocolate bars. The rest of the chocolate was used to make hot chocolate for us to enjoy. We enjoyed everything about our day, including spending time with the gracious, friendly family at their beautiful property. They made us feel so welcome! Make sure you bring money to buy some of Cacao Primaveral’s delicious products. Sara was our guide, and we were impressed with the respect, appreciation and care she shows the family. Highly recommend this tour and tour company!

Wonderful experience with local family

James_B, Jan 2023
Interacting with the local family was a lot of fun. Met the grandparents, parents and kids. Taking part in and learning the chocolate making process was very enjoyable. It was a beautiful setting on hillside with wonderful views. And a nice, scenic drive there from Medellin.

The best!

Amazing tour. Can't miss this one if you are visiting with family! Andrew the guide was perfect in his English and knowledge of Medellin. The drive alone was worth the cost. The making of the chocolate was so fun but even more, the host family welcomes you like family.
