Overview
From La Fortuna de San Carlos, experience the wildlife of the area from a raft, where your guide will point out all the animals. You’ll float along the Penas Blancas River, and learn all about the rainforest river ecosystem. This is approximately a 4-hour adventure, where pick up and drop off to your hotel is included for most hotels. Snacks and safety gear are provided.

We had a great time and saw a lot of animals including monkeys, crocodile, lizards, and lots of birds. I really appreciate that this company really cares about protecting the river - we stopped midway as they plant a new tree on every trip. The owner also searched seeds to grow at home to replant in the future. The guides were knowledgeable and fun. Highly recommend.

Carlos is extremely knowledgeable about the environment and animals in this area. He was a lot of fun to travel with. The river here is calm so really anyone can do this trip. Well worthwhile.!!! Would highly recommend to anyone visiting LaFortuna

A very knowledgeable tour guide! He is eco friendly and fun. Fluent in English and have a good sense of humor. We saw crocodiles, monkeys, birds, etc.

Great trip with amazing guides. We had planned on driving to the meeting spot and they offered to pick us up instead, which made the morning much easier.
Rest of the trip was great, relaxing float down the river stopping along the way to take pictures of the wildlife and look for animals. Our guide had supervision and could spot an iguana camouflaged in a tree from 100 yards away. We saw so many birds, toucans, crocodiles, bats, and plenty of monkeys.
Unfortunately didn't see any sloths on the river, but I had mentioned that my girlfriend really wanted to see one and they went out of their way on the drive back to search not once, but twice for sloths and we found one!
Guides clearly care about making the best trip possible for everyone and also take the time to plant a tree on each trip to help with the deforestation.
10/10 would recommend to anyone who visits the area.

This tour exceeded way beyond expectations!!
Carlos from Caribbean Winds was an excellent guide. From the minute he and Fabian picked up my partner and I from the hotel (~5 minutes before start time) they greeted us with kindness and tons of interesting facts. Carlos walked us through how the day would go and was very engaging and helpful answering all our questions.
We were very very lucky, our group was only 4 people on the morning tour and the weather was perfect with no rain.
We were provided with life jackets and Carlos gave clear instructions on how to enter and exit the raft, how to paddle forward and back, so its very easy if you’ve never done it before. Not too strenuous either, most of the time you’re floating but sometimes you will need to paddle to help dock the raft to the side of the river when looking at animals. I’d recommend wearing water shoes or at least water proof shoes you don’t mind getting wet or muddy since it’s possible to get slightly wet in the raft.
We saw a crocodile, a caiman, lots of monkeys, birds, bats, iguanas, sloths, frogs, a mexican porcupine. Carlos and Fabian were both excellent at spotting animals, as well as setting up their scope so they can take photos and videos for you, and it really made the experience so cool!
Caribbean Winds is also a wonderful company - it’s not advertised well on Viator, but they always plant a tree nearby the river each ride to help with sustainability/reforestation efforts and protect against erosion and deforestation. A wonderful company, cause, with amazing guides and driver who love what they do and what they stand for.
At the end, they provided us with cut fruit and it was delicious. 100/10 tour and would highly recommend.

What an amazing experience! I accidentally booked our excursion for the wrong day but Carlos was extremely accommodating and was able to fit in our family the same day! Sanchez was our river guide and Fabian was our driver. Sanchez, by the way, was so talented at spotting animals! We saw so many…. Sloths, bats, monkeys, toucans, owls, crocodiles, lizards, and so much more! Sanchez was also really knowledgeable and shared so many interesting facts and was an excellent river guide! Fabian met us, after our excursion on the river, with a wonderful layout of fresh fruit to enjoy while he cleaned up the boat and reloaded it. We had so much fun on this trip and would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone!!!

This was the best excursion we did in La Fortuna. The river trip was relaxing, informative, and fun. David was our guide and he was exceptional. The fruits from local farmers at the end of the trip were great. We saw birds, lizards, monkeys and got to take part in planting a tree for a reforestation project. It was wonderful! This company gives back and supports their community!

We had booked and confirmed this tour months in advance, and they were a now show at the pickup time and place. We waited an hour and made multiple calls and texts which were not answered for 4 hours when they offered a different tour another day with no explanation. We were leaving the area, and not able to go. Still waiting for a refund, we filed a claim with Viator. Our kids really looked forward to this tour as part of our vacation, the no-show was a total bummer, but we did end up hiking the day at the Hanging Bridges instead which was cool.
