SO much fun ! My husband loves sushi so I booked this class for us to learn to make it. The lovely lady who leads this class provided us with a 4-page guide to Japanese manners, food, and the recipes for sushi rice, soup, and pickled ginger. The hands-on nature of the class was so helpful and will give us confidence to make sushi at home upon our return ! Highly recommend this class for sushi lovers and their spouses !

We stayed at the home of the lovely and pleasant Kaudi who taught us about dashi soup and how to make different types of sushi for a wonderful two hours which was one of the highlights of our visit to Japan.

Knew nothing about making sushi went started this experience, left knowing how to make it!!! Great host who talked you through the stages and gave recipes to take away so you could give it a go. Great fun, lots of laughs, highly recommend

The class instructor was thorough and wonderfully informative about etiquette and the use of ingredients. There were adults to younger children in the group and everyone was able to follow instructions, leaving the class with full stomachs. Thank you for a wonderful time!

Our chef was excellent in giving detailed instruction, and explaining why we did what we did, making it easier to learn. And she also gave background information about the different kind of food we where making. She was charming and friendly.
All in all a very fine experience!

Poor communication with tour operator. A local uber driver could not find the address given. It took 45 MINUTES for the operator to reply to my message. Viator was no help as I had to repeat my situation a couple of times in the message.

It is not acceptable for people who have not participated in the lesson to write a review out of anger.
This is not our fault but Uber Taxi's fault.
We have been doing this cooking class for 14 years, but this is the first time someone has written such a one-sided review, and we are very confused.
This is because addresses in Kyoto are complicated, we didn't give them the address but Google Maps URL that pinpoints our location instead in the post-reservation information letter.
In fact, on this day, the other groups arrived without any problems.
An off-duty staff member happened to find their message and sent a reply to them on my behalf.
I was checking for communications from them until just before the lesson started, but there was no message from them that they would be late or that they did not know the location.
It's actually impossible to reply once the lesson has started.
We don't think Viator can support them in this case.
Because that is their unilateral and selfish request.

My wife and I got this bought as a honeymoon experience. We thoroughly enjoyed the class, our teacher was so knowledgeable and patient with each step. We came away full of sushi and hope to be able to give it a go at home.

Really fun experience. Well paced, learnt some food history on Japan which was both interesting and relevant to what we were doing. I went with 3 friends (30yo) and we all had a brilliant time. Couldn’t recommend this enough. The host spoke excellent English and was a really nice presence to be around. Thanks very much!!

This was a great experience! The host was patient and very accommodating. We really appreciated her enthusiasm for Japanese culture and the way the information was presented. You come in and start with a soup, then move to learning how to make sushi rice, then about the different types of sushi. Tea, sake, and beer are offered after you’ve made the sushi as an extra expense.
I would definitely recommend this!

This was more than just a sushi making course. Here we learnt about umami, why Japanese chopsticks are shorter than Chinese ones, how to make a type of broth called dashi with seaweed and bonito flakes and why we need to fan our sushi rice! The host was so welcoming and knowledgeable and the course was so much fun! The best bit was eating our sushi creations which were delicious!

The teacher was very friendly and welcomed us to her home. Her English was excellent. She taught us about 3 aspects of Japanese cooking. Umami, how to make a simple Dashi broth, and Sushi. We got to make ( and eat) our own Sushi.

The cooking class is in a test kitchen setting making it easy to follow. You prepare many of the ingredients and the class starts with a good review of the different tastes and the origin of umami - with the help of the chef we made great tasting sushi - would highly recommend this class for families - professionally run and lots of fun!
