Itinerary

Schedule a departure time from your Krakow hotel to suit your needs, then drive to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum and Memorial. It's estimated that more than one million Jews and other targeted populations were murdered here during World War II. The former Nazi concentration and extermination camp is now preserved as a memento of Europe's darkest chapter.

Connect with your guide for a tour of the camp including prisoner barracks, the unloading ramp, and ruins of a gas chamber and crematorium.

In the afternoon, explore the mesmerizing underground world of the Wieliczka Salt Mine. Be prepared for a steep climb down several hundred steps as you descend into the tunnels and caverns of one of the world’s oldest salt mines. Admire sculptures carved out of salt rock and see mysterious saline lakes during your guided visit. Return to the surface via an elevator, and relax on the return drive to your Krakow hotel in the evening.

Nice Tour

Philip_S, Mar 2023
Really good tour and smoothly run. Only negative was i couldn't sit next to my partner on the travelling bus. I think that should have been considered.

Best Tour Driver

LizaAD, Jul 2021
Michel is very efficient, helpful, and service with a smile. He is one of the best tour driver I ever had, and I do travel a lot.

Amazing tour!

Mary_H, Sep 2020
Amazing tour! Our guide/driver was great. We accidentally got lost and missed our time at Auschwitz and everyone was really accommodating and got us onto a later group.

Tick off the bucket list experience

David_B, Sep 2020
A highly recommended this tour and this tour operator. We where picked up close to are hotel at the time specified. The Auschwitz-Birkenau is a must see but harrowing experience and the salt minds spectacular.

Great Tour

Autumn_K, Sep 2020
Michael was our fearless driver who drove us to and from Krakow. He was very organized, even though the other groups that were with us were not (they were late ~20 minutes, which delayed our tour). He kept us updated on the time schedule. A great experience visiting a very somber place. I highly recommend it.

A trip like no other

Nicola_A, Sep 2020
This was an excellent trip. Was collected on time and looked after very well all day. Provided with a lite lunch which was welcomed. The day is a long day with plenty of walking so comfortable shoes are a must. Would definitely recommend this trip

Two must see polish sites in one day

Jason_P, Aug 2020
A haunting visit to Auschwitz that feel everyone needs to see and hear so we never forget. Followed by a tour of the Salt mine that takes you deep underground to the many caverns and monuments in this iconic site. Be warned it’s a long day but does mean you make the best of the time available if not got a lot of time. Joseph, our driver did a great job Shepard I got us to both venues and making sure we got the most out of the day.

Great experience

Sarah_O, Aug 2020
This tour was excellent from the very beginning. The driver was brilliant very professional and even told us interesting facts and places of interest whilst driving to and from locations. The lunch that was provided was basic but still tasted good. The tour guides at both places were very informative and shared lots of knowledge with us. It was a long day we were picked up at 9am and dropped back off at 7pm but it was well worth it. If you go in the summer like we did it is worth taking hats etc as auschwitz 2 is very open and if it is sunny there isnt much shade. An emotional experience and a must when visiting Krakow. I would definately recommend this tour

Surreal experience

Stephen_J, Feb 2020
Very informative tour and our driver was great. Learnt a lot of things that I didn’t know. Quite surreal to see the camps and the salt mines were amazing, would definitely recommend.

Aushwitz day tour

Bobbi_S, Feb 2020
Excellent well organised trip myself and my boyfriend were very touched by the history of aushwitz a real eye opening trip and lots learnt

All of it !

damianmchugh7, Feb 2020
Driver was very nice and car(minibus) was spotless and very comfortable, camps are about 1.5 hrs out of Kraków.. the weather on the day was horrible so be advised. Lots of walking and paths are very uneven and covered in puddles , on the day was sleet rain all day, very cold so wear warm clothes and proper shoes not runners if the weather is going to be bad. Paths are paved with large puddles Our driver (Peter) had umbrellas at hand 🙏🏻. Birkenau is ALL outdoors. But weather added to the experience Guide was excellent, approx 5 mins drive between the two locations Salt mine was about 1hr from camps and we had about 1 hour to have a break before tour... lots of walking again .. and steps .. most down though... fabulous place . If you’re claustrophobic ask before taking tour !!! Overall a great day out .. worn out walking but a bucket list item ticked. Thanks to our driver again Highly recommended trip as this is or split over 2 days (Picked up at 8am back around 19:00 )

Great tour

Sergio_B, Jan 2020
Great tour, greats guides. It was very organized and the guide was really good explaining the history

Fab day

Hilary_C, Jan 2020
Fantastic day ! Disappointing that we couldn't get to Birkenau as it was too slippery underfoot. The salt mines and Auschwitz were amazing ! I think it should become part of the school curriculum. This was my 5th visit but I shall certainly be back.

Well organised

William_D, Dec 2019
Long day but we’ll worth it, not a tour for a young family. Our tour guide was very good and informative. The tour of the camps is a must see amazing and very sensitive. The overall cost is good value with a pack lunch included. When booking make sure cost includes for the entry to all. We still had to pay for the mine entry. The mine visit is okay but I would not rush back. You are emailed your pick up point and time, make sure you are on time. The coach was very good clean and tidy. The driver was experienced and did not think he was Lewis Hamilton. This was one of my tick boxes and I am glad I did. Viator made very easy.

Insightful yet harrowing in Aushchwitz, followed by jaw dropping salt mines!

Macey_G, Dec 2019
The driver was welcoming and as informative as he could be about the plan of the day. The tour in Auschwitz was delivered by a fantastic guide with superb English. He really delivered it well at a good speed. Sometimes I felt like we were walking past a lot of billboards which he may have been explaining verbally and may have just been for tourists doing self-tours, so we probably weren't missing information. The tour started early enough to miss the huge traffic of people we saw going in on our way out which was another plus. Then we were taken to the salt mines by the driver, and the driver explained that the exit is about 600m down the road from the car. It was a bit confusing and disorientating after walking around for 3 hours in the mine to then have to find the driver but plenty of people were in the same situation so it was easy enough to find the entrance to the salt mine again and find the driver. The only negative about this trip was the unclear information before hand via email. The link to claim our tickets took me to a page which said 'THIS IS NOT YOUR ENTRY TICKET - you can redeem your tickets at any one of these locations' and then listen many street names around the city. On the night before the event we saw this after arriving into Krakow late, and we spent hours trying to find a place open and a place where we could redeem the tickets. The tour operator phone line was closed so we felt really stuck. In the end at 5am, after calling them multiple times and using a lot of our phone credit, they told us the email with booking reference is sufficient and we don't need to redeem any tickets. The other negative was that it would have been nice to have a printed/emailed itinerary of how the day was going to be, how long things were going to last and what times things would start etc, as we got on the bus not sure of the day ahead of us.

Long day but worth it

Nicola_M, Dec 2019
I wasn't too keen on visiting Auschwitz, but so glad I did. Very sobering experience & really brings home the importance of keeping the memory alive of all the prisoners who lost their lives during that time. Salt mines was very impressive, although a lot of walking so not ideal for young kids or elderly! Got to say I was also glad to see the daylight again, the idea of being 150m underground was beginning to give me anxiety. Worth the experience though. Driver & tour guides both very good.

Jam packed day!

Laura_G, Dec 2019
We started very early, with pick up from our accommodation at 5:50am. Having said that, this meant we got to Auschwitz ahead of the traffic and queues. Our driver was also the tour guide for Auschwitz and he was very good. Very sensitive and knowledgable. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see Birkenau due to the icy conditions so got to the Salt Mines earlier than planned. I must say after the morning at Auschwitz, the Salt Mines were not the highlight of the trip. However, the tour guide and service was great, with door to door pick up. There is a lot of walking but value for money with a packed lunch thrown in, it was great!

Well Organised Experience

Daniel_R, Dec 2019
Very early start at 5:45AM, despite this our driver was fantastic and the journey to and from the locations was seamless. The tour guide we had was exceptional and extremely informative regarding Auschwitz and gave a very thorough insight into the history of the site. On the day, the operators card machine had stopped working - This lead to us all having to withdraw money to pay the 89PLN fee for entrance to the Salt mines. In hindsight, the fee for the Salt mine should be included in the price paid, rather than having to find the money on the day. Otherwise, I would definitely recommend this trip.

Auschwitz and Wieliczka salt mine in one day

rebecca6131, Dec 2019
This was an amazing trip, it was a full on tiring day but really worth it. Our tour guide was Francesco he was very knowledgeable and also very respectful of the places we visited he told the stories of the events in a way that made you feel the horror of what happened there. I think everyone should go there once in their lives and understand the horrors of what occurred I came away feeling like I’d paid my respects and also felt very grateful for my lot in life. The salt mine was also a good experience the guide there was knowledgeable and pieced together the history of the place. It was a whistle stop day but well worth it. We were picked up at 7.20 and got back at 6.30pm there were plenty of breaks to use restrooms along the way.

Daytrip

patriciascott123, Dec 2019
Excellent trip .Our guide was excellent and he was very informative.Really enjoyed it.We went to Auschwitz /Birkenbau and then the salt mines .Would recommend this trip.

Good day but a long day

kate_a, Nov 2019
Started with an easy pick up location in a new Mercedes van. The driver was great. The tour of Aushwitz is fascinating and harrowing but a must see. Our tour guide was fantastic. Wear good shoes as alot of walking and on uneven ground. We then headed to the salt mines. We had lunch in a lovely restaurant. The wait there was too long really but gives you time to go and have a wander. The salt mines are amazing but 800 steps down and about 2km of walking. Definitely a must see

Exhausting but well worth it.

prash123, Nov 2019
Trip started from Wielopole 2 Str at 07:25 in the Morning and finished at 1900 - over 11 hours. I was emailed the the details of pick up point a day before. Very good communication from the staff. The driver picked up more people and we set off to Auschwitz 1 - took about 1.5 hours where we had a toilet break and handed over to a guide. Guide was fluent in English consulted with an older polish guide who was very knowledgable. The horrors of Nazi concentration camp was something one could never imagine without seeing it yourself. It was bitterly cold even in November and I advise that you take a thick coat with gloves and hats. Imagine in peak winter when temperatures reach -10 deg C! After Auschwitz-1, we were taken to Birkenau (3 km). The same guide showed us the vast camp and the brutal killing machinery of Nazis. Birkenau is huge and open. Extremely cold. After Birkenau, the driver took us to wieliczka salt mine. We stopped at the parking and he gave us like 1.5 hours to eat at a restaurant. There is so much to do there. I chose to walk around to visit Rynek Gorni square, free exhibits, Church St Clement, Free Saltwork museum etc. Just don't waste your time eating at that stupid restaurant. That's the only reason I've taken off one star as the driver told us he does not know what you can do if you don't want to eat at the restaurant. After walking around, I was totally surprised that he did not recommend that we walked in the town. I'm glad I did not miss it. After the break, we were taken to the beautiful salt mine by a different guide. Evelyn was very good and I enjoyed it very much. Finally at 18:30, we set off for Krakow and reached at 1900.

Amazing experience, a must when visiting Krakow

Holly_P, Nov 2019
This was the highlight of our trip. We were a party of 7 and went for the private door to door option and the Lady that took us from the hotel to the tours was really nice and accommodating. I would recommend anyone to do this. Many may be put off by how long the day is which is roughly 12 hours but we weren't as tired as expected as there was time on the mini bus to rest. Well worth the money!!

Wonderful history tour

Cheryl_F, Nov 2019
I loved this full day tour despite it being depressing, sad, horrific. Auschwitz-Birkenau were amazing places to visit to learn abut this atrocious part of WW2. It is so hard to believe what occurred here. Well worth a visit. The salt mines were a great relief to the camps. Extremely interesting. Our driver was considerate and took great care of us all.

Good, almost a full day tour that epitomizes Krakow

Vincent_W, Nov 2019
Great, had an awesome guide when in Auschwitz, and had a lovely time in the salt mine; but unfortunately our driver didnt send us back home to our individual hotels despite it being a KM away. Instead he had us dropped (all of us) at the main square. Wouldve been perfect....

Tour not to be missed.

mariaehsantos, Nov 2019
Although the guide was unfriendly at first (2/09/2019; 6 am), sometimes very unfriendly, after being drawn to the attention of group members in Auschwitz, she improved her conduct and showed greater availability. The bus driver, a very friendly and smiling young man, was exceptional, patient and enlightening on some issues. In the mines the guide, a young woman who was going to study Portuguese, was a dear and very entertaining. It is an excursion not to be missed!

Delightful experience by Cracow Local Tours!

Chet_M, Nov 2019
Everything executed seamlessly and the tour guides were knowledgeable. I highly recommend this tour - first part is bit somber and the second part (Salt Mines) uplifts the spirits. Recommend taking extra water, snacks and wear comfortable shoes as it involves extensive walking.

Deeply Saddened

Denise_R, Nov 2019
Was a bucket list item to visit Auschwitz. I’m pleased I have so I can continue to educate people on the atrocities of war and what horrible things happened to people who ended up in this most evil place. We must never, ever let this happen again. The tour was excellent and I want to again thank Marec our guide. Highly recommend this tour company. The Salt Mines were also incredible. I had never heard of them until coming to Poland. A must see venue. Pick up and drop off was easy, a long day, lots of walking. If your pick up is really early, prepare something to eat (snacks) as Auschwitz doesn’t open until 0730. You have time when you get there. We had to wait for lunch which was about 1.30pm. You cannot eat on the coaches.....

Great service

Crackers00, Oct 2019
Very well organised from start to finish. Would definitely book via company again and would recommend anyone to do so.
