A good day out, a good...

Neil_B, Mar 2026
A good day out, a good local driver/guide with lots of knowledge and enthusiasm. The trip was nice with just a small group, so it always felt personal. The only negative was the weather at the top of the mountain, but this was outside of anyone’s control.

A massive must do while in Madeira!

Ademar_L, Jan 2025
This was a great experience! We went by this crazy amazing car through a lot of places in Madeira island. The views were taken out of Heaven and the trip was very rich. Our guide was amazing, super funny and had an overwhelming knowledge of Madeira’s history, answering all our questions and explaining a lot of facts and curiosities. I was alone at the time but the we were a total of 6. People were really friendly and welcoming. This is definitely a must do! Truly amazing!

Interesting tour

The tour is very interesting and our guide (Luis) was very professional and kind. We are happy to decided to buy this experience

Laugh a minute 😆

Jose was a brilliant driver, full of knowledge and a wicked sense of humour. Debbie and Shelly from Midlands were good sports as well. We would recommend this trip for everyone.

Long day , little real information about island.

Fiona_M, Oct 2023
This tour covered quite a number of viewpoints in the island, with adequate time to see them when we did stop. The off road parts were mostly rutted tracks through forests, or steep extremely narrow roads through villages. Just made for a very bumpy rather uncomfortable ride. The driver ( Miguel) did a lot of rather unnecessary swinging of the vehicle from side to side even on the highway which amused him far more than his passengers, and on a couple of occasions we had near misses due to his driving. The vehicle had no reversing sensors, and no windscreen wash! He was responsive to questions about Madeira but most of his chat was about himself. The lunch stop food was plentiful but very average. All in all I would not recommend this day trip with this particular guide.

Unforgettable

Had the most wonderful day on the 4x4 safari, visited a lot of new places and the guide really helped explain and ensured we were all enjoying throughout , the off roading part was definitely the best

Amazing experience- visited sites that you can’t normally do without 4x4 car

Amit_S, Aug 2023
Most memorable experience, our guide Nicholas was amazing and has great surprises for tour. Highly recommend to do this tour.

4x4 in Madeira

Jan_K, Apr 2023
Very fun and worthwhile excursion. Madeira is stunning! The peaks were enshrouded in fog and so after a while our guide took us down to the sunny and rugged coastline.

All depends on the guide

Dominika_V, Apr 2023
The guide Jose made this tour really special! Enjoyed it a lot! I recommended trying it. A lot of fun, you would not get to those places on your own.

This tour was a great way to see the highlights of Madeira. Our guide was funny, charismatic and knowledgeable about its history, flora, and current facts about the island. They rearranged the order we visited different sites to ensure the weather didn't interfere with our experience, which was very much appreciated.

The Island top to bottom!

Great tour with Duarte. Great driving and so knowledgeable and experienced about local info and especially flora. Good food for lunch - recommended and great value!

Very old 4x4's Seen much better days

peter_w, Nov 2022
We booked the trip whilst on holiday and were excited to see parts of Madeira we had not seen before. Bruno collected us from the Hotel ( Next ) at 8.30am....That was when the funs started, sadly the 4x4 was really dirty inside and did not have the livery on the exterior, also was not open top....We got in, but were not happy..collected two other guests from another hotel and then onto another for 2 more. So there were 6 of us in the 4x4 for the whole day...Several of us complained the vehicle was not up to scratch , especially as one the the doors did not open, so everyone had to slide along to get out... Ultimatley this was not going to happen, one couple cancelled straight away, which left 4 of us in a replacement 4x4 with their livery and open top, but still dirty on the inside. Basically there cars are from the 1990's...Old...very...Not much worked to be truth.... Bruno tried but sadly the weather was against us and was cloudy all day...so we did not see much through the clouds....and constant drizzle... We ended up back at the Hotel around 4pm, earlier than the 5.30 advertised..But fair enough you could not see very much... Not the best experience for a mountain peaks tour, we can only imagine from other pictures we have seen what we missed...but thats the luck of the draw with the weather...But they do need to put new covers inside the 4x4's as they were very grubby, maybe even get a vehicle that was bought in the last decade...! Sorry...

Explore the unseen Madeira

Paul_C, Aug 2022
We enjoyed the variety of the day and saw areas of Madeira we would never have seen on our own. The guide Eric with his brother were great company and fun. We found out all sorts about Madeira and experienced the ‘wilder’ side of this beautiful island. Excellent lunch stop with good food and great value for money . Overall an excellent experience.

Best tour I have ever been on

Amy_N, May 2022
One of the best tours I have ever been on. Incredible day with so many things to see and exploring nature off the beaten track. Thank you for such a memorable day and couldn’t recommend this enough to anyone who wants to explore the island! Amy

Great Way to Spend a Day in Madeira

David_C, Apr 2022
Spencer our guide & driver had an encyclopaedic knowledge of Madeira, it’s flora, fauna, food, local politics, Ronaldo lore and best locations for photographic opportunities. He made every effort to get the most out of the day, for example deciding not to drive to Pico Ruivo as it was cloudy with no view. We instead went to Ponta de São Lourenço, a much better use of the time in light of the prevailing weather. The visit to the rum factory was not overlong, we got to sample 3 types and there was no pressure to purchase. As a solo traveller it was great to travel with others sharing the experience and chatting along the way. Not having to drive certainly makes for a more relaxed experience. Highly Recommend

If you don’t do this, you are crazy.

It was an unbelievably good time. Definitely spring for the lunch as well, it was absolutely the best we had all week!! Our driver was fantastic!!!

Excellent and very knowledgeable guide. Plenty of time to see everything and great explanation of everything and pointing out lots of different things along the way

Thank you Juan.

Keith_S, Jun 2021
Really good day out. Our driver, Juan, was very informative and took us to more of the proper Madeira away from the touristy places.

Learnt where our fruits came from

Nuno our guide was very good and enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Went beyond his remit. Good safe driver

Response from Host, Sep 2020

Thank you David for comming with Green Devil Safari, and we are glad you had a great time with our guide Nuno. We hope to see you soon in Madeira.

A brilliant day out

Anonymous, Nov 2019
We really enjoyed this tour. Our guide showed us so many little things we wouldn't have spotted by ourselves (for example the symbols on the house roofs). It was a very full day, I think we left the hotel around 8.30 and got back around 6, so much was packed into it. Although it involved some off-roading, it wasn't wild or dangerous, and followed defined tracks through the hills. The food was gorgeous, the guide worked very hard to ensure we all had a good time, and we really appreciated his effort and attention. Thoroughly recommended!

Laraine_D, Oct 2017
I found it in parts boring. Also I was not happy that we took a detour for one of the group, without consulting us, to a supermarket so she could buy some cheap wine. We sat outside for at least 15mins. He should have dropped us off and the other couple first but we were last

Do it! and then Do it Again! This tour had everything you needed for the day, some adventure as you drive through those winding roads with death drops, food, as you stop for a great lunch and snacks, drinks at the rum factory, sun as you are in an open top SUV and personal touch, as we were afford the opportunity to go inside someone's Santanas house. The gentle man still lived in the house with his father, and was there to welcome us.

Hannah S, Jul 2017
I can't rate this highly enough, it is a great way to see a lot of things in one day with the bonus of hotel pick up and drop off and it being an off road experience! But the biggest plus I think are the drivers, my driver Spencer was so informative, helpful and always up for laugh it really made the day even more entertaining! He pulled over a few times to show us different plants etc as really knew all the best spots to take photographs but also was always happy to stop when asked. Definitely by favourite day I spent on the island :

Fernando our driver arrived on time...

Anne M, May 2017
Fernando our driver arrived on time and proved to be very informative and friendly. We joined another couple of groups and have to say considering the terrain we were very grateful that we weren't crammed into a jeep. We were in a 7 seater 4x4 - there were 5 of us and we had a roll back roof so we were still able to appreciate our surroundings. Very bumpy exciting drive! Unfortunately I can't comment on the meal as one of our party became ill and we had to go back to the hotel. Fernando was extremely sympathetic and took us back, even offering 20 off another trip as we didn't complete this one. Unfortunately we didn't fit in another trip but wouldn't hesitate to book with this company again.

Peter B, Nov 2016
We were picked up by Luis at 0830 on Saturday 12 Nov as scheduled in the comfortable 4x4. Our trip was to be to Machico where we stopped for photographs and coffee. From here we followed an old mountain route set up by community farmers to get from the south to the north of the island going to Porto da Cruz and a visit to the rum factory and Casa du Rum. On to Santana to see the quaint old thatched houses where we visited one. Time for lunch at Cantinho da Serra and a superb old Madeiran traditional 3 course meal with wine for only 12 Eu each. Returning via Faial, Ribeiro Frio fish farm and then up to Pico do Areeiro 1818 m high, the highest point on the island. We then headed back down to Funchal arriving at 1630, an excellent day out. Throughout the day Luis gave us a lot of interesting information about the island and often stopped to show us various plants and fruits. There were several beautiful scenic stops for photographs as well. The narrow steep roads and tracks realised the necessity of a 4x4 and Luis handled the vehicle well as we were never concerned about his ability. Luis spoke English very well, was always polite and ready to answer our questions, he also took some photographs with his mobile and promised to email them to us. A trip I would not hesitate to recommend.

Very fine trip with Luis from Lido Tours on 2 trips, 06. and 07.08.16. Louis was a very good guide and in very good mood. He take some samples of trees, berries and flowers and told about it. Thank you Luis.

Sommets Madère

Marion_P, Aug 2024
