Good, wholesome family fun with a spooky twist. Ghost stories and historical facts on a fun ride around the city. We are locals so knew some of the stories but liked learning new stuff too. I took my 13 year old daughter who loves a ghost story as much as I do and she enjoyed it.

Itinerary

Choose an evening start time and meet your creepy guide in central Edinburgh for a journey through the city’s gruesome history. Board the vintage double-decker ghost bus, grab a seat in the shadowy upper or lower deck, and peer out the window as you travel the dimming city streets.

As you ride, allow your conductor’s chilling tales to transport you to the dark side. Hear about Edinburgh’s famous executions, murders, misdeeds, and most sinister characters. Rile at the stories of Burke and Hare, notorious gravediggers who made a killing off cadaver sales to medical schools in the 19th century, and the incensed witch hunts of the 16th and 17th centuries.

Pass the city’s most haunted sites and infamous landmarks like Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, the Palace of Holyroodhouse, and Greyfriars Kirk, plagued by the wandering souls of restless spirits. Visit Grassmarket and discover its bloody history as the execution site of many famous traitors and disrupters, including the unfortunate 'half-hangit' Maggie Dickson. Be sure to ask your guide about this story!

By the end, you have an intimate understanding of Edinburgh’s sinister side. Your tour leaves you in Edinburgh Old Town with time to warm your chilled soul at a local pub.

Description didn't really match the experience and did not see or hear anything about the castle which was disappointing

Great fun and informative!

Andrea_U, Sep 2026
Fantastic way to hear about the spooky side of the city! The host was phenomenal! We enjoyed not having to walk anymore after a busy day of trekking around Edinburgh.

Great excursion

Salway_J, Sep 2026

Super fun. A good break from walking all day while also having fun and learning some history about the city

For a bit of fun

Emma_S, Aug 2026
Not for anyone that takes themselves to serious. The tour guide ( sorry forgotten name) was so funny and really played his character well. Fabulous way to see parts of Edinburgh you probably wouldn’t on your own! A lovely bit of fun for just over an hour

Absolutely worth it!

Sooo much fun you get a great tour of the city and you learned so much about the spooky history of Edinburgh. This was a perfect tour to take on my first night in the city 10 out of 10 recommend plus I did this in October so it was just 10 out of 10 on the vibes.

Ghost bus trip

Valeria_E, Aug 2026
The Ghost bus trip was very entertaining. Our story teller did a good job of telling the ghost stories

Story telling on the top

Karolina_P, Aug 2026
This tour made our already perfect day even better! 😍 We spent one day in Edinburgh and finished it off with this tour, and it went way beyond our expectations. The whole experience felt like an immersive stand-up comedy show, bringing the hidden and spooky stories of Edinburgh’s dark past to life in such an entertaining and engaging way. Definitely don’t miss this! 😊

Different then what was expecting

Husain_J, Aug 2026
Not the way that expected! I thought that it will be a bit trefying and scary, but unfortunately it was driving around the city, in a dark light bus with some story's about dead people with jock's!!!

The tour was great fun and our guide, Tommy, was really good. Definitely do the tour when it's dark.

Ghostly Trip around Edinburgh

Fun night with a great team who gave a good insight into the ghostly past of Edinburgh. You can see the streets of Edinburgh lit up in the darkness and soak up the atmosphere .

A very fun time!! The guide was wonderful and the stories were interesting! Though there’s a small portion that may be hard if you have any anxiety around dark spaces. There’s a warning label on the bus before you get on.

So much fun!

Anett_H, Aug 2026
It was so fun and entertaining! A good combination of spooky and funny. Our family really enjoyed it!

Ghouls and Ghosties Bus ride

jennifer_h, Aug 2026
Really great time True stories and lots of things to make you jump! A great host and a ghoulish driver

More theater than ghost stories

Angela_C, Aug 2026
It was more theatrics than stories unfortunately. The host did her best, she was very nice but I was hoping for more history and background and stories than a show. Disappointed

It was so enjoyable, and funny. Gave us the best start to our trip in Scotland. We really liked hearing about these scary stories that have been told here in Scotland for years.

Did not go because we couldn’t find the meeting point.

Sylvia_W, Jul 2026
Could not find the meeting point. Don’t use maps because the point given gives extremely bad directions.

Ghostly Fun

gldnbuf, Jul 2026
We did this tour on our first night in Edinburgh, and it was great to get the lay of the land, as well as entertaining to learn about some of the ghostlier aspects of the historic city.

Fun for an hour

Alan_C, Jul 2026
The tour is a fun hour or so. The guide (Tommy Terror), was great, full of information, stories and bad puns! The bus was full, so if you all want to sit together we suggest you get in the queue early. We noticed some people just turned at the start time and hadn’t booked, which was fine as they had space, but we would strongly recommend booking in advance.

Spooky family fun

Light fun entertainment:) Would be better in the dark in winter but still good fun in the bright summer evening.

Did not like

Kathryn_O, Jul 2026
This was a waste of time. They tell the same stories about ghost that you hear on the up on hop off bus during the day they stop you at a cemetery make you get out talk for about 5 to 10 minutes about some hokey story and then you get back on the bus again. The rest of it is listening to stories that don’t even seem go late for lack of a better word. Nothing against the guy that was the tour guide. He told the stories articulately, but the tour itself is dumb!

Just my opinion; the bus engine noise was so loud we could not hear the other person speaking. Tour might be interesting if you had not taking any other tour of Edinburgh.
