Itinerary

Choose an evening start time and meet your creepy guide in central Edinburgh for a journey through the city’s gruesome history. Board the vintage double-decker ghost bus, grab a seat in the shadowy upper or lower deck, and peer out the window as you travel the dimming city streets.

As you ride, allow your conductor’s chilling tales to transport you to the dark side. Hear about Edinburgh’s famous executions, murders, misdeeds, and most sinister characters. Rile at the stories of Burke and Hare, notorious gravediggers who made a killing off cadaver sales to medical schools in the 19th century, and the incensed witch hunts of the 16th and 17th centuries.

Pass the city’s most haunted sites and infamous landmarks like Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, the Palace of Holyroodhouse, and Greyfriars Kirk, plagued by the wandering souls of restless spirits. Visit Grassmarket and discover its bloody history as the execution site of many famous traitors and disrupters, including the unfortunate 'half-hangit' Maggie Dickson. Be sure to ask your guide about this story!

By the end, you have an intimate understanding of Edinburgh’s sinister side. Your tour leaves you in Edinburgh Old Town with time to warm your chilled soul at a local pub.

Kimberly_S, Mar 2026

It was fun and silly....

Ashlee_w, Mar 2026
It was fun and silly. Please don't use smoke though.. it makes it very challenging to breathe and doesn't really add to the experience

Not a Ghost Tour

Adrian_M, Feb 2026
I was really disappointed with this experience and would actually like a refund. You sit on a bus and it goes around in circles of the city and you get told a few ghost stories. The images on line suggest you get off the bus in key locations to enhance the ghost experience but the only stop we made was at the carpark at the base of the castle. The host was good but not worth your time or money. Seriously skip this, everyone on our bus looked confused!

Response from Host, Feb 2026

Hi there Adrian, We are so sorry to hear that you did not enjoy the tour with us. Could you please get in contact with us on ''bookings@theghostbustours.com'' so we can discuss this matter and have it resolved. Kind regards The Ghost bus team

this ghost bus tour is...

Ian_L, Jan 2026
this ghost bus tour is aimed at children even the 9pm tour. The stories were all poorly presented, the stories about real places around Edinburgh skipped over in favour of a fake ghost on the bus. I would only book again if I was taking 10 year olds, definitely not for adults.

David_S, Dec 2025
It was a wet night absolutely pouring down.We got on the bus and from that moment we were laughing our heads off .Tommy Terror our guide was brilliant, informative and funny,as was the driver. Excellent value for money and a great way to spend a wet night in Edinburgh.

What a disappointment!

Gemma_T, Dec 2025
What a disappointment! Im am pretty sure this tour is great - which is why we prebooked as part of a Christmas gift for my elderly mother who delights in all things spooky but whose little legs couldn't carry her around Edinburgh for a walking tour. We had taken a bus tour earlier in the day for afternoon tea and were delighted with the experience, being allocated seating and made throughly welcome by the operators. Later we trekked across the city to the pick up point for the bus tour, expecting a similarly well organised situation and were upset to find that no such thought had gone into this one, with boarding being a more 'school bus affair' , the operator telling people it was first come first served which surprised us as nowhere in the advertising for this tour does it state that you have to be an expert in negotiating a rugby scrum to get seated together. Indeed there was VERY little room to breathe on the bus, notwithstanding the seating arrangements. The operator was apologetic that we had paid in advance, booked our evening meal and organised our day to fit this in only to be faced with the this very disappointing situation. She in fact told us we should be refunded. Fast forward to the following morning when I relayed this to the customer service chat who advised the refund request would be processed which I thought represented a fair situation, us having not had what we paid for, however I was wrong. In a flash our case had been reviewed and refused. And when I appealed I was advised in an email that was almost immediate that they had reviewed our case again and would not issue a refund. I am of course unimpressed by the loss of money, the lack of concern the assistant, has for both customer delight and the reputation of the provider, though I have to say the speed of cognitive processing that enabled her to not only conduct another thorough review of my complaint, request and type an articulate response, pretending to give a toss, all in the space of a few seconds leaves me speechless with admiration. Ai could not have done a better job! Although I suspect it would have shown considerbly care! All in all I cannot recommend and would not use this particular booking system again.

Great tour of the city...

Peter_B, Dec 2025

Hannah_S, Nov 2025
It gives a bus journey around Edinburgh city with good knowledge of the history. 1hr long, easy to find the pick up point.

Fun but corny

Susan_B, Nov 2025
While this was fun, we were jam packed into an overheated bus that was very hard to see out of. The stories were very interesting and the guide was entertaining but the end with the ghost was a bit over the top. Would not recommend for small children.

Brilliant tour
