Juniper was a terrific tour guide who kept our small group entertained for the full period we were guided around historic Edinburgh. The period covered (primarily 16-17th C) had terrible prosecutions of women (and a few men) that were healers and midwives. However, despite the alarming and sad stories told of various victims, Juniper made the telling meaningful, and poignant; yet keeping the group smiling at the conclusion of the tour. The time flew by … as we followed her broomstick around various points of interest to witches!

Juniper is excellent. She combines humour with history in a funny and compassionate way. We really, really enjoyed our walk around Edinburgh with her and learnt a lot about the history and tales of witches in Edinburgh. A lot of fun. Delighted to have graduated as a witch!

That it was a really interesting and fun experience! The lady (witch) that took us to the tour war really nice and friendly and really knew the history of the witch trials that took place in Edinburgh and even specific persons, witches, of different times!!! Worth it all the way ✨️

Great way to spend an afternoon wandering around the Royal Mile in Edinburgh learning about the history of witches in Scotland. Our witch was Juniper and as well as being very knowledgeable on the history she was very entertaining as well.

Witch Hazel was a pure delight! This is one of the best historical tours I have ever been on. She took a somber topic and treated it with reverence and respect, while also adding a touch of levity, magic, and mystery. She was such a fantastic guide. And we lucked out with the weather. There are about 9 stops on this tour which barely leaves the mile. Most of the tour is at parliament square and round St Giles. Side of St Giles, Back of St Giles, Vault at Barrie’s close. You only really leave the mile twice for two side streets and she never told the story of the major even though we were outside his house at the Quaker house. Juniper is a wonderful, warm and engagingly theatrical host.
She certainly got a lot of attention from the busy crowds. I was a little disappointed with the price and while the vault was cool to see, it’s an offshoot of an underground pub and not really at all like the vaults which I had been to the day before. Also it didn’t really relate so much to the witch trials.
However I was delighted that she didn’t shy away from the more gory elements of how women were tortured for no reason, other than fear and superstition.
I think that’s important. I got the feeling she really cared about the women who’s stories she was telling. I enjoyed this tour, (but it was a little overpriced).

We loved loved loved Juniper. It was an amazing chance to learn about the lesser talked about history of Edinburgh and learn how to support long awaited justice for vulnerable populations who were unduly persecuted. Make sure you have your walking shoes!

Juniper was our guide today and not only was she beyond knowledgeable, but an absolute delight! I'm from Massachusetts and very familiar with the witch history of Salem, and was able to be given more insight on that history through Juniper. The weather was a bit rough today with the storm, but I was so engaged and with Juniper and hanging on her every word, I barely noticed the hurricane like winds. What a truly great and insightful Tour. Thank you again Juniper!
