Overview

Take a break from the beach on this adventurous Dominican Republic eco-tour. Hike along a forest trail and across streams as your guide fills you in on the area’s local wildlife—including trees, birds, and other plants—all en route to a fabulous waterfall. The best guides ever! They were so helpful aiding my 77 years old active parents through the streams. They went over and above for us...shelled almonds from trees on trail, painted faces w/ rocks, pointed out local trees and birds. The rum punch at the end was a winner too! I highly recommend Winston and his crew to lead your excursion!

Excellent Experience

We went on a cruise and Amber Cove was one of our ports. We did this tour a few years ago and had a great time. We followed the directions to the meeting location and made it to the air conditioned bus for the drive to the falls. They had 2 separate groups on our excursion with each having a different guide. One that was going to go on the falls and one that went on the Nature Trek with an option to climb and slide or jump. I wanted to slide but my sister did not. She was still able to enjoy the natural pool at the end. Our guide Zander was awesome and even though we had done this tour before, we learned so much more about the history of the Damajagua Falls area. It was a great experience! A must do!!!

We had a fantastic time on this tour. It wasn't strenuous and would be perfect for anyone that can move around easily. There was about a 45 minute hike to the lower falls that included history and info about the animals and plant life in the area. The water was refreshing. You will have to swim in the pool to get to the ladders to climb up the falls. It is optional to slide or jump the falls. We were able to walk up a little further to one extra fall that required swimming to. Xander our guide was fantastic and made sure everyone was safe and had help if needed. We would highly recommend this tour if you didn't feel you could do the full experience to all the falls.

Good eco-tour with confusing expectations

If you don’t take the trek to the 7 waterfalls you’ll have a bit of down time. One couple with our group (of 8 ppl) took the 7-falls route and we waited quite a while for them to return. If we’d wanted to swim in the pool at the bottom after doing the bottom slide and taking pics we could have but it still left us with too much time in hand. Our part of the trek included more low water crossings and Jordan stopped several times to tell us about the trees and plants which those going to the upper pools didn’t get. All in all it was a good experience but not worth $80. I don’t know how they distinguished between those wanting the more eco-tour vs full hike to top and then jumping and sliding the whole 7.

We had a wonderful experience!! The trip was nice, the driver was careful.. Xander was very informative as well as Jordan. They made this excursion worth every penny!! My favorite part was taking a dip in the river!! I highly recommend this excursion.

I went on a tour with my best friend anna and Jordan as our tour guide ! He was super informative and kept us entertained the entire walk, “just 5 more Dominican minutes”. Come prepared with your own water shoes because the walk through the waterfall is treacherous. I love this company will definitely book again!!!

Totally misrepresented description and much wasted time

We were a group of 5 adventuresome and well-travelled seniors. 1) The description did not reflect the level of difficulty on the walking paths and crossing the streams. The terrain was uneven and treacherous. 2) We waited endlessly in the van because 2 types of tours were put together. We waited significantly going and coming back. 3) The walk on the nature trail was exceedingly dragged out. We were told later that it was a very busy tour day and we had to be kept on the path to avoid jamming up at the final pool 4) The standing in place and minutia about plants and herbs was annoying and a time waster 5) When we reached the last pool we were surprised to find out that we had to retrace our steps and go back the way we came. ****On a positive note, our guide did everything that she could to ensure our safety. It was fortunate and a tribute to her that no one was injured. She lent a hand and gave a heads up at the many dangerous spots, especially in the streams. She had a timetable I'm sure that was negatively impacted by combining 2 differnet tours on the van and trying to keep the 'traffic' moving in both directions. She did a good job under the circumstances 6) When we arrived at the final pool, we were told we had to wait there for awhile before we could start back. I would not recommend this tour to anyone. We were told that there had been heavy rain and that the tours were very busy. The trip needs to be revamped, on a tighter schedule. We are longtime viator customers and taking a european tour this summer. we had expected to take viator trips. We expect a reply and some financial consideration for a wasted day. Trip from hell

The trip is not good who are older for people. You had to cross five streams where the rocks were hidden and the water was above your ankles. The rocks were slippery, a lot of women needed help crossing the streams. This strip needs an age notification of how dangerous it can be

Good way to visit the lower waterfalls and learn about the local plants and wildlife

First, we were the only people booked that day, but the company didn't cancel on us - they gave us a private excursion instead. Xander was a very good guide with great knowledge of the area. About 8 years ago, we climbed up and slid down 12 of the 27 waterfalls. This tour is a flatter hike through the forest to the base of the final fall. You can just swim in the water, or climb up and slide down the final few falls.

The information provided by our naturalist guide is focused on plants and trees and the medicinal uses as well as culture in the countryside. The swim at the natural pool formed by the cascade is refreshing. Hope to see you again one day!

We had the best time. I have back issues so this walk to the bottom of the falls was perfect. Then if someone in your group wants to do the slides or jump, they take you up and you can do a couple. It’s the best of both worlds. My husband didn’t miss out because my back issues and I got to swim and take the stairs up to take pictures. Tony was the best tour guide. He really cares about making it a great experience. He taught us about all the agricultural elements of the countryside. It’s a smalller tour (less people) which makes it much better. Bring cash to tip, they definitely earned it

I think the biggest thing that makes a tour good, is the people that you are with from your friends to the guides. I can say that the guides made the whole experience that much more amazing. They add so much energy. The tour itself was amazing and such a great experience 5 stars all around.

This was easily the highlight of our trip! Pickup directions were clear and concise so we had no trouble finding the bus. The fun started the second we met our guides (Xander and Tony) Learned a lot of cool history about the country and culture on the way there, and that was just the tip of the iceberg as far as what we learned. We were with Xander and Angel for the rest of the trip, and they were both AWESOME. A perfect mix of knowledgeable, helpful, fun, and kind. The hike was beautiful and the natural waterfalls were breathtaking. The dancing and rum punch on the way back was the perfect icing on the cake! TAKE THIS TRIP! Thank you for an unforgettable day!!!

We took this trip as an excursion from a cruise ship. We were met exactly where and when they said we would, the bus was comfortable and roomy for the 10 of us, and the tour guide was SUPER! We loved the entire trip, learning about the area, sampling local snacks and rum, and, of course, sliding down the waterfall!!

Wonderful informative walk and talk about the native vegetation and waterfall. My husband had a minor medical incident that they handled professionally and he still fully was able to participate due to their extra guides that stayed with him. Family sponsored business doing a quality job. Rum punch was great!

Had a great tour with Winston! Very informative and helpful. The only thing I wish was different was that we brought our phones with us for pictures. We were warned the water we would trek through would be too high and our phone might get wet, but the water wasn’t high.

Absolutely AMAZING experience! Henry, our tour guide, was the best-super informative, very fun and caring- he made this amazing experience so much more memorable. During our hike through the jungle on the mountain, he stopped to show us all of the different fruit trees almonds, mango, avocado, caco, the different variety of palm trees. The waterfalls were STUNNING, and the jump was just incredible! After, on our ride back to port, Henry gave us rum punch, and even stopped at a fruit stand to buy us fresh mango and banana- he is an asset to the tour company for sure. This was the absolute highlight of our vacation- I highly recommend this excursion to anyone traveling to the D.R!

Don’t waste your money on Trek

This excursion is based mainly on if you are doing the waterfall jump. If you are not, you will be ignored for 2 1/2 HRs waiting at the last waterfall until the big group joins you. One of the main family member owners told everyone on the bus that we would all get wet and to leave everything on the bus, including phones, towels, and sunglasses. I told her that we were doing the trek and swim and she said not to bring anything. We were instructed to get a helmet and life preserver and follow the group. ( I’m not sure why we would need helmets) When we split, a guide walked us through another path and then to the falls. He told us to wait there and swim and he would go help the big group and see us in 2-2 1:2 HRs! We didn’t even have towels, phones etc. Winston, the main guide Who walked with the big group was awesome however. He was very nice and helpful to people through the excursion. But I can not recommend this and felt it wasn’t worth the money.
