We had a great experience visiting Rainbow Mountain with Jose as our guide. We left at 5 am, took a private car for a few hours, stopped for a breakfast buffet (also got a lunch buffet on the way back), and continued on our way to Rainbow Mountain. Jose provided an anti-altitude spray that seemed to work because we never experienced any sickness. We opted to ride horses to the base of the mountain instead of hike, which in my opinion was a lot more fun. We were also among the first 10 people at the top of Rainbow Mountain! I Jose gave us the full history of the mountain and brought such great energy the entire time. He also took a ton of photos for us in many different spots, which was very much appreciated. There was something intimate about visiting this special place with just Jose as our guide, avoiding the massive crowds and tour buses. Couldn’t recommend this excursion enough!

Jose was an incredible guide. He was very friendly and we had some good laughs along the way. We had a WONDERFUL hike with him!
The restaurant was also a treat- good food and friendly service.
The hike can be challenging, but this tour is a must!!!
The beauty of Rainbow Mountain and the Red Valley are breathtaking!!!

Very worth this tour as it’s included breakfast and lunch too. You can choose to pay extra for the horse ride or not. As someone might love to hike but not for us. Very responsive and informative guide as well as experienced driver provided. We departed at 4:30am in order to get the best weather for the Rainbow Mountains view. We back to Cusco about 3pm.

Solid tour, it's pretty much buying a private taxi to take you to the base of the mountain. You will have 1 stop for breakfast along the way. Its 1.5 hrs of paved road and 1.5 hrs of dirt. We then hiked for 1.5 hrs in very then air and muddy conditions. Arrived to the summit in a snowstorm. Needless to say, there was no seeing the rainbow color on the mountain as its was wet and half covered in snow. I did enjoy looking at the pebbles and creeks along the way and way back seeing the beautiful rocks and colors.

wow what a great trip I went with my adult son we climbed up to rainbow mountain with no horses our guide was jose he was amazing I was struggling towards the top but he was so kind and patient he made sure we made it once in a lifetime experience don't hesitate do it if your lucky enough to get jose you will be in good hands did not hear from tour company before our tour so was a little concerned that our guide would not be there but he was right on time even stopped at atm so my son could get a little cash fantastic

It is one of the most memorable tour we had been in!
Rainbow mountain was in one of my wife's bucket list. sadly in the second day after we arrived into cusco, I got Diarrhea. I text to cancel few hours before the tour but it was too late and the driver and guide - Jose did turn up to pick us up. I was then feeling better but not in the best shape.
Jose suggest to return to pick us up in an hours time and see if we are ok and I could wait in the base for them if I still feel unwell. We took his suggestion and went for it an hour later.
Jose went to the office and pick up some warm water and thermals bottle from the office. we had lunch at the base and drive up to Rainbow mountain.
There we ride a horse to almost the top of the mountain. The very last bit of the mountain, Jose encourage us to do it and we finally made it to the top of the mountain. it was amazing there and worth all the effort. Jose was always by our side helping us and encouraging us , and help us to take picture too!
He is simply amazing ! 1000000% recommend Jose !

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! My wife and I did this tour with Jose as the guide. We absolutely loved every aspect of this experience and this goes beyond the splendor of the Rainbow Mountain itself. Since this is a private tour, you have the flexibility to start at your preferred time. Before the trip, Brian was great at coordinating on start times, pickup details, pre-trip orientation etc. He helped us feel very prepared. The restaurant where we stopped for breakfast and lunch was also very nice with healthy food options and not at all touristy. Jose was absolutely the best guide we could have asked for. He paced himself as per our needs providing both support and encouragement when we felt tired. He was very caring and we developed a strong connection during the trip. He knew the exact spots to explore and also read the weather very well, which helped us avoid any rains etc. during the hike. All in all, it was amazing trip and all thanks to Jose, Brian and team.

It is a must. View was awesome and Jose was excellent. He made sure I make it to the top and back in good condition. Get a horse, and make sure you arrive early to get a good pictures.

Even if i'm 33 years old and in decent shape the climb was challenging because of the altitude. I would not recommend to go alone especially if you didn't climb at this altitude before. Jose, my guide, was amazing. A great person with a lot of respect for the mountains and nature in general. We had a very nice day with a lot of stories to tell back home. I strongly recommend both Viator as well as Jose. A very well organised trip with a lot of positive emotions.

Destination is great but service is incomplete! unacceptable food with few choices which is a great mistake to start such a hike at altitude without having enough strength to withstand the right food. The driver was in a hurry. He could have been more patient

We were excited to visit Rainbow Mountain, but we were worried about how we'd fair hiking at the high altitude. We opted for a private tour so that we could go at our own pace, and the guide, Hernando, made sure that we were comfortable and not over-exerting ourselves, providing us with interesting information when we took breaks. We also arrived early enough that the mountain was not crowded. The food for breakfast and lunch was also delicious with lots of options and much more than we could eat.

This was a tough hike for us but so worth it. The tour guides picked us up right on time, the food was great, the hike challenging, and the ride comfortable. If rainbow mountain is what you wanna do and you want to take a break from vans full of people, this is the one to get.

This was a wonderful day trip, but a very hard and long one. You do need to be acclimated to the altitude and it was very cold at the bottom and top of the mountain. But the view was phenomenal. I rode a horse most of the way while my adult daughter hiked. We easily met up at the top for photos. Our guide was very patient and encouraging. We did not feel rushed at all. Stopped for breakfast and lunch at a local restaurant which was delicious. We had great weather for winter but our guide said the mountain was covered in snow 2 weeks ago and you couldn’t see the colors. So check the weather before you hike. Great experience.

I loved the whole experience of Rainbow mountain and am so pleased they offer the shorter tour now that has newly opened up....I don't think I could have completed the longer hike. We were in awe when we saw the Rainbow Mountain! Truly stunning! The tour was well-organized. Our tour guide Fernando was very sensitive to our needs considering that the mountain climb was quite difficult and slippery. It was really worth it once we made it to the top!

It's recommended going to Rainbow Mountain. The view is gorgeous. Although it's not easy to climb the mountain if you don't fit high altitude, it's still worth going. The guide is very helpful and is very familiar with the route.

We wanted to squeeze Rainbow Mountain into the end of our planned trip to Cusco. Jose was our guide and he made sure we were able to complete the tour (with plenty of time for photos and viewing the mountain) before we needed to head to the airport for our flight. Jose was knowledgeable, friendly, and eager to take pictures for and with us. The tour also included hotel pickup/drop off and breakfast/lunch. Highly recommended!

This is a difficult but amazing experience. The tour is very well organized. We were picked up exactly on-time by our driver/guide. Is a long way from central Cuzco so use the time to rest for the actual tour. Breakfast was OK. The needed essentials for the trip. We came from a Caribbean Island, so we live next to sea level. So altitude took a toll on us but we were able to do it. This tour uses a relatively new route, which is shorter than the old one. You will have to walk about one or one and a half hour from the point in which you leave the car until the pick of the mountain. The walk is amazing. Great scenery of the iced mountains, and then, the rainbow mountain makes it even better. Since the route is shorter you can be back at Cuzco at a time still good to go out. Use clothing for cold weather and wind. Use horses if you feel you cannot walk the whole way. My wife and daughter used horses and they were glad they did. The only thing I would suggest to the tour people is to use a slightly bigger car or maybe a small SUV to take the parties to/from the tour. There were four of us and the car was a compact car in which we were slightly cramped. Other than that, this is an amazing experience.

Jose was our guide and he was very friendly and attentive. He is passionate about the his job. Just know that the commute is long and the hike is tough. Be sure to bring warm jackets as the summit is very cold and windy. But it's an once in a life time experience! This tour is highly recommended!

We took this tour a few days ago. It was so wonderful. Our guide Jose was wonderful! He was the best guide I've ever had on any tour anywhere in the world. He made sure that we made it to the top! I absolutely know that I would not have made it without Jose. This was one of the single greatest experiences I've ever had. The tour guide, Jose, was fantastic and is highly recommended! We were able to reach the top quickly, giving us enough time to explore more areas. We trekked down to Puma Lagoon and saw chinchillas, an Andean eagle, and even a vicuna; apparently so rare it was a first for our guide! Use this tour.

Excellent tour with exclusive and personal service from our guide Rolando!
You need to endure the long day, from the early morning pickup from the hotel 03:45 and the 3 hours drive to the start of the tour. Overall, the tour was well worth it, and our guide provided excellent support for my 11 year old daughter. A word of advice, do not expect dining plates and crockery when being served your breakfast and lunch. It is served by the indigenous people in their traditional dwellings/restaurants, but excellent service provided.
Having travelled and eaten with local Mayas in Mexico, this tour ranks equal for Peru and the Peruvian people.
