Rough 4 hour ride to the mountains. It was our 2nd day in high altitude. So altitude sickness was unbearable. I recommend staying at least 4 days in Cusco before taking the Rainbow Mt. tour. The scenery was out of this world. I took pictures with Alpacas which was nice. Franklin, our guide was very hands on with our problems. Very informative. I recommend this tour.

This was a great tour. A great option if you don’t want to do the hike, and a really fun way to get up the mountain. My husband and I shared an ATV and it was about 15min drive up and then an easy short walk to the viewpoint or there was a harder hike up to another viewpoint. You have the opportunity to get a photo with the alpacas which you choose a nominal amount (we gave 10 soles) We went early March and there was snow so definitely dress warm if you are going this time of year (gloves & waterproof jacket are a must) The breakfast and lunch stop were great, food was delicious and a great variety. It was a good way to break up the drive (around 3.5hours each way) Our guide Cristian was friendly, explained everything to us and was available to answer any questions we had.

Exhilarating way to ascend Vinicunca, with ample time to enjoy the scenery and colours of Rainbow Mountain

My wife and I had a very good experience at Vinicunca. The travel agency was communicative beforehand and the tour guide was punctual on the day of the experience. The journey from Cusco is relatively long, c. 3-4 hours, but it is broken up with a simple, local breakfast at a canteen-style community centre, where we also had lunch later in the day. We were transported to the base of Vinicunca, where we were given ATVs to practise on shortly before heading up to Rainbow Mountain. The ascent was exhilarating, with stunning scenery and a fun and manageable route up to the top. We had a few pauses on our journey up to take photos of each other and the snow-capped mountains along the way. The ascent/descent takes about 20-25 minutes, depending on the size/speed of the group, but slow or fast, this experience is excellent. We then had c. 30 minutes at the top of Rainbow Mountain, where we able to climb up to two different viewpoints for our photos, and to take a little walk around the area. Absolutely loved it.

Well run tour. Everything was very timely. Meals were great. ATVs were quick and easy getting up to Rainbow Mountain. We had an hour there before we descended.

I'm glad we added this Rainbow Mountain tour at he last minute. Going up via ATV was a blast and we were able to ride to a 5 minute walk from the top unlike other operators who stopped where we started, leaving their customers with a 40 minute high altitude uphill hike. Weather changes constantly at the site and is beyond the operators control. It was cold and actually snowed when we were there so bundle up. Ski gloves and goggles are a good idea if you want to be comfortable. DO NOT do this before you have fully acclimated to the altitude in Cusco. The vantage point is close to 17,000 above sea level and oxygen is scarce.

Not worth the drive to rainbow mountain

Would not recommend this experience. To start, you only ride the atv for a maximum time of 5ish minutes each way. If you are expecting a long/fun ATV ride, this is not it. The ATVs top out at 7 KM/ hour and you ride in a line for a few minutes to arrive at rainbow mountain, which was also a huge let down. You drive 4 hours each way just to have people trying to sell you stuff while ruining the view. Also, the food included was not good. The driver & guide were so nice but did not share any knowledge, if you are looking for that. Waste of a day & would tell friends/family to skip.

It’s about the journey, not the destination right? Well, the journey was not enjoyable.

We booked this because of the great reviews but our experience was not aligned with the previous reviews. I’ll start with the pros and then describe the cons and why we wouldn’t recommend this tour. To start off, the food was good and varied. The ATV ride was super fun and the actual experience on rainbow mountain was very enjoyable. However this portion was only 20% of our experience, with the remainder of the experience being spent in an uncomfortable bus. The seats in front of us were broken so they reclined all the way, leaving us with no room for our legs at all. We were stuck in this position for 8 hours total! The bus ride was much longer than expected, it was advertised as a 3 hour ride one way but ended up being 4 each way. Also, our tour guide did not speak much english so we really missed out on the history and background of the mountain. So while we had fun on this tour, we would not do it again.
