Tocu Tent Camp is in the heart of the Caño Negro Wetlands, a remote and pristine region best reached from northern Costa Rica. For comfort, timing, and road conditions, we recommend planning your visit from the following areas:
Best Departure Points:
La Fortuna / Arenal: This is the most convenient and popular starting point. The drive takes approximately 2 hours, mostly on paved roads until the final stretch, which becomes more rural. It offers the smoothest logistics and is ideal for guests already exploring the Arenal Volcano region.
Río Celeste / Bijagua: A beautiful drive of about 1.5–2 hours, passing through rural farmlands and forested areas. This is an excellent option for guests visiting Tenorio National Park or the Río Celeste Waterfall.
Liberia / Guanacaste Airport (LIR): Travelers landing in Liberia can reach Caño Negro in 2.5–3 hours. It’s a good option for international arrivals who want to pair a beach stay with a remote wildlife experience.
Northern Guanacaste Beaches (Papagayo, Playas del Coco, Tamarindo): Expect approximately 3–4 hours, depending on the beach area. This route is perfect for guests seeking a contrast between coastal relaxation and inland nature immersion.
