The mud volcano and pink sea stops were interesting sites, but felt rushed. We spent a long time at lunch (delicious!) which was surprising after being rushed through other locations. Tour guide answered questions about sites but did not proactively share much info besides logistics.
The van used was full of people (13 across several parties) but it seemed new and the AC was working.
Related to existing tip comments: tour guide instructed us to pool tips at mud volcano. Locals asked for tips but left us alone after we said we contributed to the pool of tips.
If using hotel pickup, tour guide sends a message the morning of to confirm location and timing.
We needed to bring cash for tip (and optionally, drinks at lunch), swimsuit, and towel.

The tour guide/driver were excellent, prompt pickup and good explanation of the itinerary. The volcano tour was great, and the tour allows you to pool tips for the volcano workers so you don't have to remember everyone. They were not super pushy either as some have experienced. The salt flats were not pink and haven't been for almost a year, so beware of that. But still a cool thing to see. The lunch and beach club were really good! Enjoyed a couple of hours in the pool, hammocks, and beach after lunch.

This was such a fun and unique experience. The day was nicely paced, with clear portions of the trip that kept it interesting the whole way through. Starting at the Pink Sea was a great way to ease into the day. It was really interesting learning why the water turns pink, and we had time to walk around, take photos, and enjoy the area without feeling rushed.
After that, heading to the mud volcano was a completely different experience in the best way. Floating in the warm mud was surprisingly relaxing and a nice chance to slow down and unwind. The contrast between the calm, spa-like feeling of the volcano and the openness of the Pink Sea made the tour feel well balanced.
Overall, the tour was well organized, easy to follow, and a great mix of sightseeing and relaxation. Definitely a memorable day and one I’d recommend if you want to see a different side of the region.

Yuliana, our guide, was very professional and informative. We enjoyed the tour of the salt museum. It was disappointing that the pink sea wasn't pink this time of year, but still a great experience. Lunch is La Boquilla was great. The beach was lovely. The mud volcano was fun and washing it out in the water was an experience in and of itself. You have the option of tipping in a bag to benefit the group or tip individually. It got a little akward because we chose to put our tip in the bag. The ladies that helped removed the mud were waiting for an individual tip. All and all a great experience and I would definitely do it again.

we loved that hotel pick up and lunch was included as the exploring started around 8:45/9 so by the time you get to the volcano you’re quite hungry. It was a lovely day! We loved the fact that we got to leave the city for a bit to visit a smaller town and see local life! The Ethnoindustrial museum was one of our fave parts as we love history! It was a cool tidbit to learn about! The pink sea was sadly not pink but the atmosphere and coast were so beautiful! We dipped our toes in for a few seconds as the salt content is very high but it was so refreshing and clear! I love how this part of Cartageña is mainly for local access and monitored by your groups because it’s a lovely piece of land solely for locals:) the volcano was magic! I didn’t think you’d float up like that but you do! It was so cool and we met some fun people in our tour group that were so nice to be around:) I felt so relaxed after, I slept on the ride back to the city! The lunch break was at a gorgeous restaurant with lovely food! We for sure recommend this:) it was one of our favourite parts of our trip! Please be patient with the tour group as there is hotel pick up included meaning not everyone will always be punctual:) but the tour guide was lovely and v insightful!

The whole trip was amazing!! I enjoyed everything about it from the museum, to the seaside stop (I wish the sea was pink lol), and the mud volcano

Beautiful experience, everyone should do it. The massage was well worth it The tour guide was excellent too.

The only good part from this tour was the mud volcano and the lunch at restaurant. Got kicked out from pink sea because you weren’t able to enter water and it’s private property no longer for a tour. On top of all that caught a flat tire on tour van and didn’t explain what’s was happening and no apologies.

The mid volcano was awesome. I came out feeling refreshed and relaxed. The tour guide was awesome as well. She was friendly and knowledgeable. She made the experience complete.
george_d, Apr 2024
It was a fun experience. It’s true that there will be somebody in there who will give you a massage without you asking for it, then follow you to the dressing room and expect (demand!) money. I don’t recall what I ended up tipping, but it was well worth it. She somehow remembered me, showed up when I was at the lake, and helped me rinse off. Without that, I’d probably still be pulling mud out of my butt crack!
jay_b, Apr 2024
Be ready to walk up a lot of stairs, but once you reach the top the view is amazing. The mud bath was definitely a different experience they massage you as well. A must try!
Crystal_H, Mar 2024
The pink sea isn’t pink but I did enjoy learning about the salt process in the museum. The mud volcano was a 10 out of 10. So freaking cool. The lunch was at a nice restaurant and very good, but you only had the choice of either water or lemonade with no refills.
Chris_A, Mar 2024
Tour operator arranged to pick us up at the hotel but after an hour had not arrived. Never showed up and was not contactable.
As a note for the volcano - Ended up hiring a car and going to the mud volcano ourselves. Be warned, the people there are VERY aggressive for money even if you didn't ask them to do anything. Many people, even those who didn't do anything demanded $20.000 COP each.

DO NOT TAKE THIS TOUR. the pink sea is just a brown lake. I didn’t expect it to be bright pink but it was muddy brown water. Biggest waste of time. There is no story telling about the cutler etc. We got 3 sentences in english from the whole trip when we expected to be informed of the places we were going.
VOLCANO YOU NEED MORE CASH: They do not tell you that when you get to the volcano 5-8 locals will touch you (even when you ask them to stop they don’t) to massage you or wash you. And these people demand money from you. The tour claims it’s optional but they corner you and yell in your face until you pay. None of us had small change and they expect us to pay another $12USD per person who touched us/ helped us when we didn’t ask for it. I don’t mind paying locals for their service but we were not told we needed cash to pay these people and it was very uncomfortable the way the cornered us and wouldn’t let us leave the building.
The bus was also an hour + late to picking us up. Once we got our food I called an Uber bc I was not going to waste one more second on this your.

Worst tour EVER!!! They picked us up in a vehicle with no air. They hey tried to stuff to many people in the van. We complained and the tour guide said she just worked there and there’s nothing she could do. The van had completely bald tires in addition to no air. We arrived at the tour, the guy who worked there tried to steal my watch, he said he had put it in my bag, the guide called someone and they returned my watch. As we were leaving the mud volcano, we had a flat, the driver was unsure of how to change the tire so some of the men on the tour had to help. We tried to schedule a transportation company to come pick us up because we were so uncomfortable on the ride there, but the guide did not follow the tour schedule (places they said we would visit) so we couldn’t coordinate our pickup. They said we had 3 stops spending 2 hours per location, we did not!!! We spent 15 min at the pink sea, if that’s what you call it then went to lunch. At lunch they served half of a fish some people received head some received the fin portion. At to make it even worse, they provided a van for drop off with air for a 10 min drive. This tour company is just horrible!!!

It was a good time: however the pink sea was very limited. It must be noted that tour company should advise tourist of “ top” traps. It was a a little uneasy when you do not know who you owe tip to, especially at the Mud Volcano. Otherwise enjoyable
christina_r, Oct 2023
Was fun and the guide was great. Was pretty crowded in a hot van and it turns out it is the wrong time of year for the lake to be pink, which was disappointing.
Danielle_D, Oct 2023
A unique experience. Let go & just enjoy! The women who rinse you off are sweet. Bring tip money for photos & river women to help wash off mud.

Bud bath was fun…

The pink sea wasn’t pink, so you can skip that part of the tour. The food was good, but the guide was not very friendly

Transportation was provided as listed. The ride there was about 45minutes id say. The sea wasn’t pink but the experience was still great. Now the mud volcano was more than i expected it felt so good I had about 15 minutes a guy holds all the phones and takes pictures for you then after we went down to the river where the ladies wash the mud off of you I felt like a kid again lol. My least favorite part was the end when you’re trying to get dressed everyone that introduced themselves wants a tip but we were told to give the tip to the lady with the bag for the community on the bus. They are overly aggressive about it. It really killed the mood for a minute the lady with the bag was even on the bus waiting for EVERYONE TO TIP which shouldn’t be allowed we aren’t required to tip we paid for our excursion. It’s optional

Calling this a mud volcano is a bit misleading, as there’s no volcano. It’s a big tower that looks man made. That’s not to say we didn’t have a lot of fun, but it wasn’t what we were expect based on the advertising. The mud pit itself was quite a lot of fun and we enjoyed ourselves. The women washing us in the lake after were a bit rough and left us feeling pretty exposed. Strangers running their hands inside your bathing suit repeatedly to get the mud off isn’t for the feint if heart. We also found our tour guide lacking in engagement with us. We sat for nearly an hour and a half after lunch (which was at 2 pm) waiting to be taken back to our lodging. Has she let us know, we could have walked the beach or explored more. But she sat on her phone and then had a nap on a bench.

The pink sea wasn’t pink because it had rained recently. Wish they would’ve told us. The mud volcano was amazing though, definitely a memorable experience that I would recommend.
Gloriana_C, Jul 2022
Terrible, bad food, ugly place, I lost my day and a lot of money whit this.
Locals are very intensive, they don’t know when to stop. There where fighting whit the tourist about tips all the time: |.
The mud experience was awful, completely packed, it’s feels so unhealthy
Shayna_A, Jul 2022
Half of this excursion needs more work. The tour of Galerazamba museum is mediocre at best. The pink sea isnt pink anymore because of global warming so it wasnt much of a thrill. The mud volcano is AMAZING. Stairs are steep but the mud at the top was weirdly relaxing and a fun time. Please bring tip money and break it down because the vendors dont get any funds if you dont hand it directly to them.
Joshua_J, Jul 2022
The tour was okay. They take you to the "volcano" (a small pit with the mud in it), the museum (it's not much of a museum and was unnecessary), the Pink Sea (it wasn't pink at the time, but they informed about that prior), and then to a restaurant on the beach to eat. The tour was definitely not worth the price. If I had to pick a highlight, it would be the "volcano." It was definitely an experience, but not one worth doing again especially for that price.
Selma_T, Jul 2022
I imagine that the experience would have been complete if the tour had taken place according to the purchase made and as it is reported. The guide did not pick me up at the hotel as had been arranged and I ended up going on the tour late because the next day I would have another program, I entered contact with the guide who had sent me a message the day before but didn't respond, I went to Google to find where the agency's headquarters was, I went to the address and when I got there it didn't exist, no one knew...I went back to the hotel until I could talk to the guide , he said he would reimburse me because the afternoon tour did not include the pink sea that has nothing pink (this was warned the night before by the guide but I already knew it through my research) and the lunch that didn't have. , I just went to the volcano (in reality it's not a volcano or any remnant, it's just a mud pit that imitates the shape of a volcano, created for tourism, it's so real that it's not even in a mountainous area lol) only moment cool and lay down and relax in the mud with a lot of people asking for money. In short, I paid 59 dollars for a tour that I didn't take, the company Caribben tour exempted itself from the responsibility of reimbursement, passing only to Viator a reimbursement of 6 dollars (will the value of the lunch and the ida in the “pink sea” was that exactly the price? I DO NOT RECOMMEND THE CARTAGENA CARIBBEAN TOUR AGENCY.
