Great day out and lots of surprises. Guides were excellent. the cenote swim is an amazing experience
David_J, Mar 2024
25 minutes at swimming area, had enough time to jump in and get out of the water once.
1.5 hrs at a church I do see the significance but many of the group members were asking about lunch. Arrived at lunch had to do another hour tour before eating now it’s 230. Mind you they picked us up at 7AM .
At lunch all I wanted was a bottle water asked for it several times and received nothing, now it’s 90 degrees and super humid.
They had no non alcohol beverages on the bus…very disappointed in the time spent compared to the brochure,
Extremely disorganized company you have.
When I get home I will put my opinions on all social media.

We spent 15 hours on the tour, of which only three were spent visiting the sites listed. We were picked up late, moved from one bus to another, and dropped back at 10 pm. If not for our driver and guide (Alfredo), I'd give this just one star.
The additional taxes collected were also a surprise. It said no additional fee or taxes other than the $49 that was listed, but we had to pay an extra $40/person in taxes.
Very rude people (not sure what their titles are) who gave me and at least another couple a lot of grief and attitude before the tour began. They were high-handed, to say the least.
I am not going to spend any additional time listing out details, since I do not expect anything to change.
Bottomline: I will tell friends to avoid this tour and the company that operates this.

I didn’t enjoy the fact that they took us to a transportation center to have us pay the rest of the tax fee and put us on another bus after that. Which by the way if u pay CC they charge you like a 5% fee. Ridiculous and Waste of time and the amount of people on bus is large approx 60. I believe somewhere in website it says 30 people per tour. Viator is only selling ur seat to another company that takes u on the tour. A private tour would be best even if you pay more. You are on a tight schedule to meet all visiting points. Cenote stop was great, although only given 1 hr to stay which includes the prep time. Then we headed to the buffet stop which is the stop for many other buses. The staff at buffet were rude. I believe bcuz they are overwhelmed with so many batches of people coming thru. Or maybe just in a bad mood that day. Then after that it was Chichén itza stop. Was great, one hour of a guided tour and one hour for ourselves. We got lots of rain, so if rain is forecasted.. be prepared. Will make it easier if u stay dry for the long bus drive back to hotel. We were wet, and cold. Not enjoyable. Take extra clothes specially for kiddos or older adults. Final stop was a 30 min stop at the city of vallodid , which is nice stop to get some snacks for the road. Again we were wet and cold so didn’t get to walk more than we wanted to. I’m a mom with kids under 12 and older parents. Maybe this tour would be fine for non parents.

Our recent experience with a tour agency booked through Viator left us with conflicting emotions. While the overall tour itself was enjoyable, there were certain aspects that fell short of our expectations, resulting in a sense of disappointment and inconvenience.
To begin with, we appreciated the friendly and energetic nature of our tour guide, who added a positive vibe to the experience. However, one of our main grievances was the duration of the cenote tour. We found ourselves wishing for more time to fully immerse ourselves in the beauty of the cenote and make the most of the experience. It felt rushed, leaving us longing for a more leisurely exploration of this natural wonder.
Additionally, our disappointment was further exacerbated by the logistical issues we encountered. Despite the tour description clearly stating that the service included transportation to and from our hotel, we were dropped off "4 blocks" away from our accommodation. This seemingly short distance turned out to be much longer, particularly in an unfamiliar place and foreign country. We felt uneasy and unsafe walking through unknown streets, especially considering the language barrier. The directions provided were vague and confusing, ultimately leading us to an unsavoury area of town. Thankfully, we managed to seek assistance from fellow tourists, who helped guide us back to our hotel. This unsettling experience overshadowed the positive aspects of the tour, particularly since the final activity involved water, leaving us in the uncomfortable situation of trying to locate our hotel while still wearing wet clothes, contrary to what was initially promised.
In conclusion, while the tour agency provided us with an overall enjoyable experience, the disappointments in terms of the inadequate time allocated for the cenote tour and the misleading transportation services significantly impacted our overall satisfaction. The safety concerns and lack of clear directions compounded the sense of disappointment, casting a shadow over an otherwise positive experience. We hope that the tour agency takes note of these shortcomings and makes necessary improvements to ensure a more seamless and customer-focused experience for future travellers.

Jesus was a exelent tour guide as well as efrain mayan expert and local awsome trip highly recomended

The tour itself was amazing but the average review is based on the guides attempt to rip us off. We were told we had to pay $140 in tourist tax but they didn't have a card machine. The guide said we could pay at a restaurant later, but to be honest we both forgot. He approached me on the coach as we travelled home and he gave me his bank details and told me to transfer the money to him. He messaged me before we had even got off the coach to remind me. The whole thing didn't seem right to me, so I messaged him and told him that I didn't feel comfortable doing that and that I would contact Viatours directly, which he didn't want me to do. He then offered to call at my hotel to get cash and I again said that I would contact Viatours directly. He replied and told me not to worry about the money. Just feel that with Viatours, the guides try to rip you off at every opportunity. I also found that they have persinal intetests with places that they stop at and they constantly try to get you buy from their friends.

Our family of 8 enjoyed our tour to Chichen Itza and the swim in the sacred cenote. The drive through the mayan village could have been skipped…nothing to see.. no stops. The buffet lunch was good and all you could eat. The request for tips everywhere was a little much…buffet line, server.. not just suggesting, but felt demanding. Our guide, David was good and knowledgeable, but his english was difficult to understand. The check in process seemed disorganized and chaotic…too many middle men. We felt our time at the cenote and Chichen Itza were too short because they made so many incidental stops at shopping areas that we weren’t interested in. Overall we enjoyed the tour!

The entire tour was a success. Gonzalo was my tour guide he is an extraordinary and well prepare tourist guide. I am a Latin America history instructor, and I was really surprised about all the precise information he offered in each stop we made. Thanks a lot for the experience we had!

After reading the reviews I was really hesitant to book this tour but I am glad I did.
I was picked up on time and was given a brief explanation of the internary. Our guide Ivan was great and funny and told us interesting facts about the Mayan civilization and Chitchen Itza. We ve had enough time to wander arround and take photos.
The lunch was OK, nothing special and not much to complain about either.
The people in the souvenir shop were not too pushy which was a plus.
My favorite part of the tour was the visit to the cenote, it was beautifull and there are no words to describe it.
The visit to Validad was OK but unnecessary in my opinion.
Overall it was a great tour and wouldn't hesitate to recommended it to anybody.

Our tour guide, David, was amazing. He studied the Mayans in college and it was very obvious he loved his job.
He had laminated pictures with information to help understand everything he taught us. He was also incredibly patient with my 7 and 10 year boys (who are both obsessed with ancient civilizations) and answered all of their questions.
If your lucky enough to get him as a guide your guaranteed an exciting trip.

We had an amazing experience with our guide Francisco. He was very knowledgeable, and the excursion itself was amazing.
Audrey_F, Apr 2023
Cenote swimming hole was wonderful experience for the family . A long day but great fun and memories made . Chitzen Itza also amazing to see together . Great pictures taken for memories too .
ANDREJS_D, Feb 2023
1) I did not like it, because best part of excursion we spent less than one hour in Cenote and just 40 min free time in Chechenitza. Spent so much useless time in souvenir shop. And the last city to visit was 20 minutes just to wait food in restaurant and go back to bus. Did not see the city at all. Horrible time planning from your side.
2) in the bus our seats were next to toilet and 6 hours of driving we felt smell of urine (pee). Disgusting to be honest. Bus was fulll and guide told us not to change the seats.

The sites were great, would have liked a bit longer in Vallodolid. My only real criticism would be some of the commentary. We appreciated being told about the issues with the traders at Chichen Itza but the point was way too laboured and mentioned far too many times. Also with the tips on the way back. We get it but don’t appreciate being told that you’ve worked a long day for us, driven us safely for over 500km…. That’s what we paid for!
It’s a long day which we knew but without these small things it would have been a bit more pleasant.
Brian_S, Jan 2023
Pyramids were great but guides were not very friendly and did not give much info. They spent most of their time hustling for the Mayan gift shop and asking for a big tip.
alexis_a, Jan 2023
Good guide
Great experience
The stops were very interesting
Know more about the maya culture
The food was ok but not fantastic
Jenny_A, Dec 2022
Our tour guide victor was wonderful but we kept picking up other travelers and we had to wait for them it took hours so we got started very late. We missed our dinner reservations, the trip was supposed to take 12 hours and it took 16 hours
Joshua_J, Dec 2022
Pyramid temple was very impressive
Cenote was amazing
The bus ride was extremely comfortable
The guides were excellent nice and intelligent very knowledgeable
sivan_n, Nov 2022
We were picked up at 7am but only at 13:25 we get to chichen itza. Spent A LOT of timein the morning trying to sell you stuff while wasting precious daylight. We were given one guided hour + one free hour at the pyramid, not enough time to see the whole complex! At the cenote we got around four (it was dark and a little cold to get in the water) and got 1 hour which wasn't enough. Later took us to a park in Valladolid which was kind of boring. To sum it up: 14 hours tour for 2 hours of the site we came to see :(

Meant to go on this trip yesterday (10/11/22). After being informed that we’d be met at our hotel lobby. We waited for pick up and no one came. I preceded to get a barge of messages stating the driver was outside. He was not. He was at the top of the road and not at the lobby. He waited all of 5 mins before leaving. We were then told to get a taxi to a random street and be there within 15 mins to catch the driver. Bearing in mind I don’t have data they made no intention of calling. We waited for 40 mins and nothing. Walking back to our hotel I was able to connect to the Starbucks Wi-Fi and received further messages saying for us to go to a restaurant and wait. By this time it was way too late. We didn’t go on the tour but received a full refund. Please beware. I really wanted to do this tour but relieved I got my money back.
Dominika_R, Nov 2022
The guides were terrible. They didn’t care about the people nor we couldn’t understand their bad english. They were whisteling at us like we were cows and everything was in a hurry. Cannot say we enjoyed it. Me and my family travel half of the world and that was our worst experience ever. It’s just a fake theatre for stupid tourists. I am very sad about what happened with those touristic places in my beloved country - Mexico.
trishross, Nov 2022
We were supposed to be picked up at 07.00, received an email saying pickup would now be 09.30 after waiting from 07.00. Got to the coach waiting at a supermarket and had to pay 31 usd (£27.05) per person for some kind of tax. From then on it was just a way of taking your money, buy this buy that tip here tip there. The cenote was well overcrowded and very dangerous. No kids food at restaurant.
Felisha_B, Oct 2022
Had a great time. The day was packed with acrivities. The guides were friendly and knowledgeable. Food was great as well. Would recommend.
Froylan_R, Jul 2022
Everything we did was memorable
Had a great time and well worth the price
The pyramids and structures were amazing lots of history behind every structure plus the transportation was very comfortable and the guides very knowledgeable
I would definitely recommend this trip to others
Filadeleo_S, Jul 2022
Rude diver, no time at chichen itza, we only had like 45 minutes free at chichen itza, we took more time at the lunch time, they spend so much time trying to sell us stuff there at lunch then we got to spend at Valladolid, then they tell u not to buy stuff from local vendors inside the park at chichen itza, because they work on comission, they get a cut of the money, dfrom the shop at the restaurant, buy at chichen itza those guys have good prices, way cheaper, don't recommend it, you will see for your self.
DJosh_C, Jul 2022
Great trip but will opt for something shorter next time as 12-14 hours is just too long. Maybe just Chichen Itza and the Cenote would be best.
Sanjeevkumar_D, Jun 2022
Took 2-2:30 hours longer than promised! Otherwise was a nice tour. Luckily it was good weather (due to the storms in Cancun sending cooler breeze to Chichen Itza).
Joseantonio_S, May 2022
It was terrible We waited 2 hrs for the driver to pick us up and he never did!!! We are staying at that Grand Riviera Princess in Playa del Carmen. We waited in the lobby since 6;45 cause they were supposed to pick us up at 7:30 am. We saw every other group leave but us. I don’t have a number for Viator to call and get my money back, the website locked me out cause I don’t remember the password and the link they send through the email doesn’t work!!!!! Terrible service!!! Very disappointed
YC_L, Apr 2022
Francisco is a great guide. He provided in depth description of the history of Mayan and Chicken Itza. Unfortunately, too much time spent at the buffet lunch, and the shopping places at the lunch place. Probably this is how the company makes more money. Be prepared for those time spent.
