Eat like a local! Our guide Amira is very experienced and took us to restaurants where Egyptians would definitely eat - breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. The drive through a crowded market where locals would get fresh fruits, veggies and meats gives you a glimpse of what daily life would be if you lived in Giza or Cairo.

We had a great time with Muhamad on our food tour. He showed us some foods that typical Egyptian families would eat and gave us an amazing tour that really gave us an idea of typical life in Cairo. We particularly loved that the tour included driving through the bazaar and through the neighborhoods that most tour guides would skip; It really gave a unique perspective on Cairo that I don't think we would have otherwise experienced. The lunch restaurant had a truly amazing view of the pyramids.
Overall, for the price and the experience, this was an excellent way to spend a day in Cairo!

Sugar Queen is amazing. We hit local restaurants, saw parts of Cairo that we would not have ventured to. We’ve been on food tours all over the world, and while the food was unfamiliar, this was probably our favorite.

I hit lottery that my guide “sugar queen “ is absolutely delightful!!
Starting the breakfast - to have food 5 different place. So don’t eat too much earlier!!
And visit some random place like papyrus store, perfume, spice, accessory etc. each store worker there explain about the stuff known on Egypt. (Also some of them speak fluent japanese !)
Don’t worry about not buy anything. Sugrequeen control everyone. No need to scared sales lol just enjoy experience!!
Not just fan. Also well organized tour!

What an amazing trip from start to finish. We got picked up in a small 3 row van that was very spacious and had working AC. Our first stop was a delicious breakfast in a very clean and friendly restaurant. Along the tour we were able to try an array of different spices, tea and had a to go box of Egyptian desserts for later. We tried two other restaurants that were also very yummy, clean and super friendly. Amira was very informative, friendly and passionate. We had an amazing time and couldn’t ask for a better guide or driver. Thanks for such an amazing tour!!

Sugar Queen energy was good. This was more a shopping tour rather than a true food tour and learning about the food.
Stopped at more shops and spent too much
Response from Host, Jul 2025
We do this just to give you a break between meals and to give you a chance to digest so you can try more Egyptian food. This is only for you to get to know the traditional Egyptian crafts and you are not obligated to make a purchase. We did not pressure any customer to make a purchase.

This "Private Food Tour in Cairo" was way more than what I expected. To say it was just good would be an understatement. This personally exported private tour went beyond my expectations and I can truly say it was.... OUTSTANDING !! I must say it was all because of our excellent tour guide (the owner of the tour company Royal Egypt Tours) Hala Egypt Sugar Queen. I went into the tour thinking my sister and I would be treated to new and tasty Egyptian food. But much to our delight, it turned out to be not just an excellent food tour but one of the most outstanding tripsone could take through the city of Cairo (Giza). Giza is Halas hometown and she took us on one of the most incredible food and guided city trips possible. Then after all the excellent food, drinks and welcome suprises to awesome shops and sites. Hala topped it off with a rooftop visit to the Hyatt Hotel to have some drinks while over looking the most spectacular views of the Pyramids of Giza. I give this a 5+ star tour and highly recommend spending the day with Hala tasting food and seeing Giza (Cairo).

Trip started out really well with an enthusiastic guide and a wonderful breakfast. After first course we stopped at a perfume shop and didn’t buy anything. After that our guide spent 99% of her time on the phone outside the restaurants handling other business. Perhaps she became disinterested in us because we didn’t buy or something else happened. Luckily our driver stayed with us at the various stops and was engaging. But, we were hoping for a more immersive experience on the food. There is a lot of food, so come hungry. Would be best to have smaller portions and sample more. Also, a market tour to look at various ingredients would be nice to learn more. Also recognize this is a shopping tour in addition to food so keep this in mind. Reviews for this were outstanding, so that’s why we selected it, but unfortunately our high expectations weren’t met.

We are very sorry for this, but please know that our guides do not lose interest in customers just because they did not make a purchase because they all know that this is not mandatory for customers, and the idea of going to the shops is because there is enough time to digest between each meal, like a break between each meal because we give you the opportunity to try more than one meal and the idea of buying is not mandatory but to give you the opportunity to get to know the local industries and experience them

We had a wonderful time on this tour. Lots (and I mean lots) of lovely food to try, some fun shopping and a spectacular view of the Great Pyramid and the Sphinx with lunch. What really made this tour special was our guide Sugar Queen. She was full of information and a lot of fun! Highly recommended.

Perfect tour to take before our G Adventures Best of Egypt trip. Our guide, Mo, picked us up at our hotel in the morning along with a skilled driver and photographer, Abdo. We enjoyed a day of excellent and authentic Egyptian food. We ate a giant breakfast at one location, coffee at another (I'm not a coffee drinker but I loved their coffee with milk and sugar), and then made our way to an out of this world roof top bar (I recommend the strawberry smoothie) with a view off the pyramids that will take your breath away. And that was only half the day! The rest of the day we enjoyed more food and learned much more about Egyptian culture. The guide was amazing. We always felt safe and not rushed and never pressured to make any purchases.

The view of the pyramits of Giza on the roof of a restaurant where I had the lunch was amazing. The lunch was good, and also the breakfast we had before at another place.

We had so much fun with this tour. Sugar Queen and her driver showed us around town and the best food in town, all with friendly positive energy. She’s knowledgeable and lots of fun. We really enjoyed the hospitality of all the people we interacted with. Great experience for first timer like us.
The rooftop restaurant (Hayat) at the end of the tour has a killer view of the pyramids and sphinx and wonderful grilled meat. Great way to end the day.
Highly recommended.

Cairo is FULL of places to eat and experience Egyptian culture. If you have limited time this is the one for you. We were paired with Boogie and a really GREAT driver that had already scoped out locations for us to try.
First, go HUNGRY and don't expect to be able to eat everything. You're in for a real treat.
Boogie will try to pace your eating but everything is so delicious you can expect to love it all.
The morning starts with a "breakfast" of treats and eats, you'll get a bit of history in addition to your culinary experience. You'll stop in and sit with locals at a coffee house (yes, you can have tea), see residents doing their local shopping and out door markets, snack at made to order juice smoothies, and do a little shopping. Ask Boogie to take you to a small corner 'spice' store. Yes, it sells spices, but it you have any interest in tea, this is the place for you. EXCELLENT top shelf teas; full leaf, not that broken bits and pieces stuff from the bottom of the box. He can also take you to a local clothing shop that has reasonably priced Egyptian cotton items, yes, it's off the beaten path but so are the prices. It's not the typical stall Tshirt stuff.
There are really two stars in my opinion. Dinner/supper is at a rooftop restaurant with good service, great food, and a Spectacular view of the Great Pyramids and Sphinx . If you can't eat your 'lunch' don't worry, Boogie stop on the way back to your hotel at again, a little, out of the way Koshary (?) shop and they'll pack it for enjoying later. Comment: my husband and I spent 2 weeks in Egypt and I fell in love with Koshary from Alexandria to Aswan, this one was the best. don't let the take out container fool you. it's the yummiest one. And last but not least, (hmm, i think this is the 3rd star) you'll have to frogger across as street but he'll help you; to go to again, another, little out of the way bakery. The outside looks like any other you'll see with loaves of bread, but step INSIDE. AMAZING!!! If you love sweets this is your happy place. They have savories, but I was appreciative of the sweet treats. They have variety packs so you don't have to select just one. We took that back to the hotel as well bc there was no way we could eat it then. Note: I can't eat walnuts, not a problem, they have tons of options.
Bottom line, they've already figured out the places that make local foods that are just a bit elevated from the rest. Don't be fooled by little entrances, go for it, you won't regret it. Ask for Boogie if he's available, he'll ask you a bunch of questions when you meet and tailor the day for you.

Suger (sic) Queen was outstanding. Great knowledge and sense of humour and she seemed to know some of the best places to eat. We had a lot of varied dishes and had to skip dinner! You best come hungry.

Absolutely amazing food tour experience. It was truly a VIP tour. Picked us up at our hotel at 9:30 AM and we did not return until 5 PM. Enjoyed all the traditional Egyptian foods as well as some very nice small local stops at traditional Egyption shops. no pressure to buy anything. Just a fantastic experience. Highly recommend it.

Queen Sugar, Princess Amera, and our driver were the BEST. They greeted our group of 4 with smiles and laughs. They took us for breakfast and during the drive, they gave us a history lesson. They took us shopping, we’re again, we learned more history. We stopped at a local fruit stand got fresh juice or fresh fruit cup. They had us dancing and singing in the van. They asked if we were willing to try camel and pigeon and we all agreed and it was a great experience watching our food prepared right in front of us. The driver keep the music playing and got us through crazy traffic. This group knew their places and great food. I would highly recommend and when I return to Egypt, I am calling them up to show us around again.

We had a great time with Sugar Queen Hala! We were able to make changes to her busy itinerary due to time constraints. Plus her assistant Princess Amira was knowledgeable in hieroglyphics and Egypt's history. And our driver Khaled made sure we got back on time. Not only was the food plentiful, but we left full of knowledge about Egypt as well!!

It was not a walking tour. We were driven around Giza to a few food spots. It was very basic, but a lot of food! Our guide was very nice, but the establishments were run down like most of Giza.

Mohammad, our guide, shared lots of valuable information about the area. The food stops were delicious from fava bean dishes to Shawarma & fresh juices & an Egyptian speciality of corn, macaroni, beans, lemon juice, tomato sauce & chile. We drove, mostly throughput Giza, also visiting different shops that specialized in local products & art as well as a drive through the local street market. It was a great glimpse into Egyptian daily life.
