This was a fun experience, as interacting with locals and learning about what life is like there can be some of the most enriching activities when traveling. Ahmed and Shorouk gave a warm welcome and were eager to talk and share about their lives, as well as take an interest in their guests. Ahmed explained that one of the main reasons they started hosting these evenings several years ago was so that their daughters would have the chance to meet people from around the world, which I thought was really cool and a pretty neat idea. Ahmed and his wife both speak excellent English, so there was very little language barrier. The food was plentiful and tasty, and included a handful of different typical Egyptian dishes for us to try. Shorouk did most of the cooking, and Ahmed also makes an excellent baba ganoush! While we did help with some chopping and a few other prep tasks, I would view this as less of a cooking class and more of a "cultural evening". That was perfectly fine with me, just know that it won't be an intensive cooking class in the way that some are. This was more of a chance to visit a local home, meet a lovely family, and share a meal together. Sometimes it can be hard to find authentic experiences in heavily touristed areas, but this is the sort of activity that you're likely to remember for a long time after your visit.

Every stop felt authentic and thoughtfully chosen, from tiny local spots to busy street vendors full of energy and amazing smells. The amount of food was unbelievably generous, and every dish had its own story and flavor. We tried everything from freshly baked bread and savory street food to traditional desserts and drinks, and each one was delicious in a completely different way. It felt less like a tour and more like being shown around the city by a local friend who genuinely loves food and culture. If you love food and want to experience the real side of Cairo, this tour is an absolute must-do. Come hungry, you’ll taste far more than you expect, and every bite is worth it.
