The tour was definitely a long one so definitely be prepared. For the optional tour we chose a cutual experience. Our trip was filled with cultural information and we got to learn about the Kiwi conservation program. Grant was our guide and was super caring and kind. He made sure to check in throughout the tour and ask how you were. He made the trip worth it.

It’s a long day but the best way to enjoy the experiences on offer when you don’t have other transport. Our guide for the day was Dave, he was on time for our pick up and full of information to enhance our experience. The drive was pleasant, Dave was kind and patient and greeted us with a huge happy smile, he even shouted our group a bag of feijos (?) to taste on our way back. Very thoughtful and new experience for most of us on the tour. Dave is a delightful ambassador for Cheeky Kiwi Travel and NZ. Thanks for a great day and the suggestions for other places to visit while in Auckland.

My sister and I had a great time with Matt as our guide. We decided to do te puia and the Polynesian spa and I would definitely recommend both! We started our day at te puia and learning about the culture and natural wonders of te puia and Rotorua. A truly wonderful experience with some great information. We ended our trip at the Polynesian spa and it’s was so relaxing! It’s not something I would ever choose to do personally but my sister really wanted to it and convinced me, and we both had a wonderful time. I would recommend bringing your own bathing suit and flip flops for the spa, both are available for purchase at the spa tho. Shampoo conditioner and lotion are all available at the spa for free use as well so don’t worry about bringing your toiletries. We decided to have lunch at the spa cafe and it was super tasty (get one of the fresh squeezed juices!) the spa has some great skin care to try out and purchase as well but I do think te puia had the better gift shop all around (one of the best that we’ve been to over the last few days if I’m being honest we did the majority of our souvenir shopping there) over all highly recommend and I would do it again in a heart beat.

Great tour, if you’re wanting two and one tour, this is a great . The tour guides were fantastic, the tree walk was fantastic and a little scary if you’re a great height, but it’s well worth it. The Geysers & Maori cultural tour was also the thermometer and great to see.

This tour was fantastic! All I wanted to see in Rotorua. Cam our guide was very well informed and make the journey very pleasant, entertaining, and informative.

The bus ride takes approximately 3 hours one way but the guide does stop about an hour in for coffee/bathroom. Same on the way back but with ice cream/bathroom. We went to Wai-O-Tapu for about 2 hours on a self guided tour of the Geothermal Hot Pools (FYI it smells STRONGLY of sulfer). Then everyone got to pre pick their second activity which we did the Polynesian Spa. We spent around 2 hours there as well which was relaxing but only needed about an hour (we also smelt like sulfur from the mineral in the hot tubs at the spa which wasn’t enjoyable). Overall it was memorable but wouldn’t necessarily spend the money on the trip if given the choice again.

Our experience in Rotorua was amazing. Our tour guide Grant was super knowledgeable about Auckland, Rotorua, and all the surrounding areas. The drive to Rotorua was very scenic and enjoyable as well. It was great to learn about the Māori culture, and there was so much natural beauty. Definitely include the Polynesian spa as well. We highly recommend this experience!

I did the Rotorua Highlights Tour in September and really enjoyed it. The Māori cultural show was a standout — engaging, informative, and a great way to learn about local traditions and history. The geothermal areas were incredible, especially the geysers, which were absolutely amazing to see up close.
The tour was well organised and moved at a comfortable pace, with plenty of time to enjoy each stop. Overall, it was an excellent way to see the highlights of Rotorua in a short time. I’d definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting for the first time.

Great geo-thermal tour, went to see Te Puia and Wai o Tapu. Bring a mask or bandana for the sulfur odor! Our driver was very informative and interactive. Long ride about 12 hours, we had a couple stops each way for extra viewing spots and ice cream on the way home.

We enjoyed our day trip to Rotorua although we took different options. I went for a walk around the amazing Wai-O-Tapu while my husband enjoyed the Polynesian Spa. My tour guide/driver John was great. The bus was comfortable and we had good bathroom/snack breaks. If you have John as your driver be sure to engage with him as the more energy he feels from you the more you learn about the area.
I chose the Spa and redwoods option and enjoyed both. The spa is one of the top 10 in the world, but I will say I was underwhelmed by the spa. The geothermal pools are amazing though and I loved soaking in them. I recommend renting a swimsuit to prevent your own suit from absorbing the sulfur smell of the pools. I wish I had thought ahead to plan a treatment for when I would be there. If you want to buy geothermal mud for yourself or as a gift, the spa has cheaper prices than Wai-O-Tapu’s gift shop.
The Redwoods walk was cool, but I wish there was an educational speech to go with the safety speech. I highly recommend going the upper route, versus staying the lower route.
On the way back we stopped for Tip Top ice cream and it was some of the best ice cream I had ever had.

This day was SUCH a well organized effort - I was very impressed that this day was able to be personalized to the actiivitiee that each person on the tour wanted to do which really allowed each tourist to make the experience their own. We had an incredible time learning about Māori culture more at Te Puia then relaxing at the Polynesian spa.
John was a great guide throughout this process - making sure we were engaged during the drives (he’s a man of many interesting facts and knowledge and kept it fun) and making sure we knew where to be at each stop.
Couldn’t have had a better experience! Highly recommend!
