Authentic and genuine NZ experience

Michelle_K, Dec 2025
I had such a wonderful experience on this tour! I’m pretty sure our driver’s name was Brett, and he was awesome. Super attentive, full of great New Zealand facts, and really made the day special. He drove us to the Māori tribe performance and the Redwood Canopy Walk. Even when it started pouring and traffic came to a standstill on the way back, he stayed calm and patient. Drivers like him make all the difference—he truly deserves a raise!

We had a really nice and varied trip from Auckland to Rotorua. The scenery along the way was awesome. Our tour guide Dirk was super friendly and told us lots of interesting things about both Rotorua and New Zealand. Highly recommend!

A must visit place

ARUNPRASATH_A, Nov 2025
Our Rotorua day trip from Auckland was absolutely fantastic and one of the highlights of our New Zealand adventure! From the moment we were picked up at our hotel in Auckland, everything was seamless and well-organized.

Enjoyable tour

Glen_B, Oct 2025
Enjoyed this tour very much. The stop at Hobbiton was interesting. Great visit to Rotorua and the cultural center. Lunch was very good. The guide, Edson, was very good. He was engaging and knowledgeable and made the trip more enjoyable.

Te-Puia is the MUST SEE!

Kevin_R, May 2025
We spent no actual time in Rotorua (disappointing) and the side trip to Wai-O-Tapu was disappointing. The highlight was going to Te Puia for lunch, the Maori cultural center, and the walk through their geysers and nature conservancy. Tours to Te-Puia should be a MUST-DO.

PooiHwa_L, Apr 2025
Our driver guide, Edson is such a good guide. He brought us around Rotorua and explained the history of each place. Definitely will encourage my friends to follow this tour. It’s a small group which I like it as it’s more personal.

Splendid day in Rotorua

Pam_J, Mar 2025
Absolutely wonderful trip! Bunty was our guide, he was very prompt for our pickup and kept us all moving along smoothly all day. We enjoyed the Maori cultural part of the day, the geothermal and geysers activity was very interesting and the buffet lunch was one of the BEST meals of our trip! Highly recommend this tour!

Response from Host, Mar 2025

Thanks for your lovely review! Delighted you had such a wonderful day with Bunty. He's great at keeping everything running smoothly while making sure everyone has fun. So glad you enjoyed the Maori cultural experience and the geothermal sights. And hearing the buffet was one of your best meals of the trip is fantastic - we're quite proud of that lunch! Thanks for recommending us to other travelers. We'd love to show you more of New Zealand next time you're here!

A sight you don’t see every day .

Great day trip!

Julie_S, Feb 2025
Great way to spend the day. We visited Waiotapu then Te Puia. Both are beautiful places and worth going to. Expected sulfur smells at both places (not surprising) and possibly some mist from geysers too. Van was comfortable for the drive. Bring bottled water with you. Only complaint was lack of clarity/communication about how the day would go, which caused some confusion for the guests. We were picked up in a van and taken to another van for the drive to Te Puia, where we split into groups based on selected activity and moved to another van to go to Waiotapu. After that, we went back to Te Puia, met up with the rest of the group, then moved on to Rotorua.

Georgeanne_R, Feb 2025
It was a long drive from Auckland but in the end, very worthwhile. We especially orally enjoyed the forest with the California Redwoods and learning about the Māori culture. Lunch at Te Puia was amazing. Dirk did a great job answering questions relating to all things New Zealand. A very worthwhile day.

Excellent day at Rotorua

Krish_R, Jan 2025
Very good tour. Dirk was an excellent guide on the drive there, then Kahu at Te Puia was excellent in walking us through Maori traditions. Irma took great pains to then drive us around on a very rainy day when some attractions just didn't make sense, before smoothly handing us over to Bunty for the drive home. Would have been just terrific if the weather had been a bit better

Response from Host, Jan 2025

It is hard when the weather does not behave - but love the fact you took the best from the day and enjoyed as much as you could

Great way to see Rotorua...

Ashley_L, Jan 2025
Great way to see Rotorua in a short time. The tour guide, Edson, was very personable and provided great commentary along the journey. His instructions were clear with meeting times/areas and the tour had plenty of time allocated without feeling rushed. Te Puia was a great place, combining the natural geyers and landscapes as well as the arts and crafts school. If you're lucky, you'll also be able to see the kiwi here (they were still sleeping/ hiding for us). The buffet lunch, was fantastic. The food was plentiful and delicious and the desserts were a highlight. Be sure to check/lock in your additional activity for the afternoon. I did the Redwoods Treewalk and loved the difference in landscape from the thermal area.

Response from Host, Mar 2025

Thanks for your detailed review! It's wonderful to hear how much you enjoyed your day trip with Edson. We're lucky to have guides who can share interesting commentary while keeping everything organized and relaxed. Te Puia is indeed a special place that showcases both natural wonders and cultural heritage. Sorry the kiwis were shy during your visit! Great to hear you enjoyed our buffet lunch - those desserts are definitely a highlight. And the Redwoods Treewalk makes for a perfect contrast to the geothermal landscapes. We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and helpful tips with other travelers. Thanks for choosing to explore with us!

Te Puia

helenquiroz1964, Jan 2025
We enjoyed learning about Māori arts and culture (though it felt scripted), the guide was enthusiastic and he guided us with perfect timing to see the geyser erupt. The buffer was good, we enjoyed the pavlova. We didn’t realize this trip included 3 locations with mud pools/volcanic activity, it would have been nice to have been offered an alternative after lunch. Overall a very nice day

Edson rules!

Rose_B, Dec 2024
Edson was lovely! He was a great guide and made lots of stops to show us things along the way and took time to get to know us personally. We were the only two people for the first part of the trip, so it felt very personalized. We loved getting to see a Kiwi, and the redwood walk was incredible.

Response from Host, Dec 2024

We also love Edson - so glad he joined the team 18 months ago - (I am never letting him leave) I am glad you had a great time

A must do and see!

Mitchell_D, Dec 2024
The volcanic parks were amazing and beautiful. Lots of smells and beautiful colors. The geysers were amazing as well. I especially loved see the Maouri Arts and Crafts School. A portion of your money goes to their school so they can continue to teach and learn about their cultural crafting and arts. They carve wood, bone and stone. They also weave. All in the ways of their ancestors. It's quite beautiful.

Response from Host, Apr 2025

Thanks for your review! We're so glad you enjoyed the geysers and colorful volcanic landscapes. The Maori Arts and Crafts School is a special place. It's wonderful you appreciated seeing the traditional carving and weaving techniques being preserved. We appreciate you sharing your experience!

Book directly through Flexi Tours

Lea_A, Dec 2024
It's 3 hours travel tome each way from Auckland, so that's half of the trip time right there! The culture show and geyser walk and Maori arts cultural center are supposed to be timed so that you are at the geyser near the time it eruots, on schedule, but our tour did not work out well and we had to leave prior to the largest eruption. The lunch buffet was very good with variety. When booking, I misunderstood the Flex time portion of the trip, two hours in the afternoon, when we could have chosen another local activity. So instead we were driven around in the bus seeing local sites through the window, but unable to stop and participate in any. So that made for 8.5 hours of riding in a bus. We would have preferred to stay at the geyser, as the ticket allowed that, but we were not allowed to do that. The concept of flexi tours was great, and if we would have booked directly through them, these options, including using the tourcities, baggage between citites, booking through viator for flexibtiurs was limiting and disappointing. But the geyser tour and Maori arts center were definitely worth seeing.

Response from Host, Dec 2024

The geyser is a natural phenomenon, and eruptions do not happen on schedule. It normally erupts every 45 minutes - to 1.5 hours and the Te Puia staff cannot schedule the tours to make sure you see the eruption. It is sometimes possible to add extra activities on the day and even on Viator there are options you can select which include an option. The choices on Viator are Rotorua only, Rotorua + Waiotapu, Rotorua plus the redwoods tree-walk, or Rotorua plus the Polynesian spas, or as you suggest, talk to one of our team to discuss the range of activities. Options cost extra as they involve additional admission fees and a separate driver to get you to the activities.

The Best of New Zealand Nature!

Steve_J, Dec 2024
Had a wonderful day visiting Rotorua and the Spa! Pete, our guide, offered amazing insights and enjoyable conversation about New Zealand. Plus the drive down from Auckland offered a taste of the beautiful landscapes. Definitely recommend.

Response from Host, Apr 2025

Thanks for your review! We're delighted you had such a great day exploring Rotorua. Glad you enjoyed your time with Pete. The scenic drive from Auckland is definitely part of the experience - a perfect introduction to New Zealand's landscapes. We appreciate your review and are glad you chose to travel with us!

Unique Rotorua Day Trip

Weizhen_M, Dec 2024
All amazing scenery and unique culture across Rotorua area are related to the Volcanic Eruption in 1886. How can we miss it when we travel to New Zealand? Thank our multiple tour guides! Small group trip is a plus.

Awesome Rotorua tour

Carmen_P, Dec 2024
The tour by Tai at Te Puia was awesome, the geysers were great to see as well as getting to see a kiwi bird. Our driver Pete was awesome too and shared his knowledge of local customs and history.

Great day out

Lauren_H, Nov 2024
Great day with interesting sights and a lovely lunch. Edson our guide was brilliant and looked after us really well.

Wonderful and informative

Kim_B, Nov 2024
This was a fantastic tour. I learned so much about New Zealand and the areas that we past through from our very knowledgeable guide, Darryl (who was brilliant). The guided tour at Te Puia was also great - very informative and interesting and was followed by a wonderful lunch! After lunch, I chilled out at the Polynesian Spa, basking in warm pools in the sunshine and looking out ove lake Rotorua. The journey back was just as informative with Darryl finding new things to tell us and teach us! A wonderful day!

Fun and interesting

Diane_L, Nov 2024
Tour guide was very informative and engaging We enjoyed the whole experience and learned lots about the traditions of locals

Rotorua

Sheri_S, Nov 2024
Christopher and Mary Ann were wonderful tour hosts! Chris was a great driver and interesting conversationalist with good sense of humor…Thank you! Also the buffet lunch was very good and much better than expected!

Response from Host, Nov 2024

People are often suspicious of the word buffet, but Te Puia have taken the buffet to new levels, with a variety of fresh food and food prepared in traditional Māori Hangi style and typical NZ meals catering to all dietary requirements. We are glad you enjoyed this and of course the rest of the day. There are companies offering what seem to be similar tours for a lower price, but when you delve into it, you will find they have larger groups, in less spacious vehicles and do not include lunch as standard.

New Zealand history with exposure to tree walk and geysers!

We had a great day trip to Rotorua! Our tour guides Daryl, Jenny, and Edson were wonderful! We learned a lot about settlement of New Zealand - educational and fun!
